Author's Note: Ok, you guys. This is the last chapter of Save Me. I seriously feel like I just did this with DtRH, LOL. First, I have to thank stl29tide for all of her help with this fic. You guys have no idea how much of her time was put in this story, and how many late nights we had working on it and making it perfect. Also, without her, Scarf!sex would not be possible. ILY, wifey. :D Another big thank you to alissablue, who did tons of research for me on the Paul/Josie/Dusty storyline so I didn't have to. You are awesome, as were all your requests. :D

Lastly, huge, huge thank you to everyone who read and commented. You guys have no idea how much your comments mean to me.

Also - I do have more fics in the works. Look for a DtRH one-shot on Thanksgiving, with the sequel ready to start posting the day after. I also have plans for a Save Me sequel - more about that really soon.

“I’m so proud of you.” Lily murmured in Luke’s ear.

“You have no idea how much I needed to hear that.” Luke told her quietly. She pulled back from their hug, giving him a sad smile.

“I should have realized you were in trouble.” She cupped his chin in her hand, her eyes watery.

“I hid it really well.” Luke said. She shook her head.

“I’m your mother. I should have known.” Luke gave her a sad smile.

“I’m better now. That’s all that matters.”

“Does this mean you’re coming home?” Luke glanced at Reid, who was sitting uncomfortably in the arm chair of his mother’s living room, the fingers on his left hand tapping on his thigh.

Luke wondered if Reid even realized he did that whenever he was nervous.

“No.” Luke smiled, a real smile this time.

“But, Luke, now that you’re better…”

“Mom, I like it where I am. I love Reid, and I like living with him - even if he does freak out every time I move his toothbrush.” And he did. Of course, Luke was moving it on purpose just to get that reaction.

The fights they had over that toothbrush had led to some of the hottest sex they’d ever had, and that was saying a lot. He wasn’t about to tell his mother that though.

“I worry about you, with him.” Lily told him. They were standing in the doorway to the hall. “He doesn’t seem like a very nice man.”

“He’s not.” Luke laughed, and he felt Reid’s eyes on him. “But I love him anyway.”

“And he loves you?” Luke nodded. “Are you sure that it’s over between you and Noah?”

“Mom, please.” Luke pleaded. “I know you love Noah, I know he’s family to you, but we weren’t right for each other.”

She sighed. “You’re happy?”

“Very.”

“Then that’s all I need to hear.” Lily replied. “But I’m still going to worry about you.”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less.”

“Will you call me after your meeting today?”

“Sure.”

“I love you.” She said, hugging him again.

“I love you, too.” He whispered. He closed his eyes and smiled as she held him tightly.

“I wish my dad had been there.” Luke told Reid as the older man steered the car through the streets of Oakdale.

Luke’s first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting would be starting shortly.

“Your mom will fill him in, I’m sure.”

“I’m sure she will.”

“You two seemed like you had a good talk.”

“We did.” Luke smiled. He felt lighter than he had in weeks, the burdens that had been weighing him down were slowly disappearing one by one.

“Good.” Reid reached over and put his hand on Luke’s knee, squeezing it gently. Luke covered Reid’s hand with his own, and laced their fingers together.

They were silent the rest of the drive, Reid pulling the car into a parking space at the hospital after a few minutes.

Reid started to get out and Luke held tightly to his hand, stopping him. Reid gave him a questioning glance.

“I just…” Luke licked his lips, feeling suddenly nervous. “I wanted to say thank you.”

“For what?”

“For saving my life.” Reid’s eyes widened. “You did, you know.”

“Luke, I didn’t -“ Reid tried to deny.

“You did.” Luke insisted. “Even from the beginning, whether you knew it or not.”

“Luke, I let you drink all the time, I didn’t try to stop you.”

“But you were there for me when no one else was, whenever I needed someone.” Luke told him. “You showed me that I mattered.” He pressed a kiss to Reid’s lips. “You have no idea how much that means to me.” Reid gave him a small smile.

“I guess if we’re going to be all ridiculous and cliché…” Reid paused, taking a deep breath. “You saved me too.”

“I did?”

“You taught me how to love.” Reid told him, looking embarrassed. Luke smiled.

“I love you.” He said, kissing Reid again. They kissed for another minute, and then pulled apart.

“You’re going to be late.” Reid reminded him. They got out of the car and went inside the hospital, Luke’s arm around Reid’s waist, and Reid’s arm around his shoulders.

Luke loved that Reid didn’t seem to care who saw them, or what the gossip mongers at the hospital had to say about them.

“Come find me when you’re done.” Reid paused outside a door in the hospital hallway. Luke nodded, and Reid kissed him before turning and walking away, going to check on a few of his patients.

Luke walked inside, finding a seat.

When the counselor asked if there were any new people, Luke stood up.

“My name is Luke.” He said. “I’m an alcoholic.”

As the group chorused back a greeting, Luke smiled.

The End.
