Author's Note: This story starts the night that Noah finds Luke in Olde Towne and takes him home. It picks up right after Noah leaves. In my head, that makes Luke 19 and Reid 30,(using the DVD of Reid around 12 yrs old as being taped in 1990). This might end up being the dirtiest thing I've ever written. *hides* Huge thank you's to my official beta for this fic, stl29tide, and alissablue for all her EPIC research. :)

Basically, I'm hijacking the Paul/Josie/Dusty plot for my purposes. Don't know who Josie is? If you visit Dusty's Wikipedia page here, you can read up on it. I'm changing mostly just the dates for the plot, so it runs alongside Luke's plot line. I will probably AU it a lot. Also, in my fic, Dusty/Josie have known each other for a few weeks, and it was Paul's idea to call in Reid (He told Dusty that it was prove Josie was faking, but in reality he wants Reid to keep his scheme going).

Some blond woman showed up with Jack's fiancee and one of his kids (seriously, had these people never heard of birth control?) ran over to her, calling her Mom and sounding excited. Reid would have been rolling his eyes, except he couldn't take them off of one Paul Ryan. Paul seemed to be having the same problem. Reid took a long drink of his beer, glad he was only in town to consult on a case and not on call.

He was probably going to need a few more before the night was over.

Then Luke and Noah and Holden were back with the Hubbard squash, bringing it into the kitchen and moving it over to set on the counter. All of the kids and various others gathered on one side of the table to watch, giggling and cheering.

Reid knew at that moment, he'd entered the Twilight Zone.

Who the fuck were these people?

What kind of tradition got so many people riled up?

“This has to be the biggest Hubbard squash we've ever had.” Holden practically gloated.

“It's definitely the biggest.” Luke chimed in, and Reid wondered how his family couldn't tell how bombed he was. At least they would be eating soon - that would soak up some of the alcohol in Luke's system. Reid didn't like the way the Noah and Luke were standing - too close for his comfort, and that was something he didn't want to think about. He'd known this kid for three days - and yeah, okay, they'd had some really amazing (really amazing) sex, but that was it.

Reid watched as Emma handed Holden the saw, warning him that it was sharp. He could just see it now - one of them was going to chop off a finger. Holden started cutting, and Emma called the men up to the counter one by one as Luke and Noah (still standing way too close together) held the squash for them. Paul was alternating between watching them, and eying Reid until Emma commanded that he was next. Then Brian was pulled up, and Reid hoped to God they left him alone. Brian actually moved in between Luke and Noah (thank fuck), and Lucinda got up to start taking pictures on her phone.

Reid took that moment to slip out, stepping onto the porch with a sigh. He headed for the cooler, noting there were only a couple of beers left. Luke had drunk more than he'd realized. He grabbed one, popping the top and taking a long drink.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Reid sighed again as Paul Ryan's hushed, but clearly irate voice washed over him.

“I was invited.”

“By who?” He demanded.

“Not that it's any of your business, but Katie and Brad.” Reid answered. That seemed to shut Paul up for a second...or not.

“If you think about even hinting at why you're in town...” Paul threatened.

“Don't get your panties in a bunch, Mr. Ryan.” Reid snapped. “I'm just here for the food.” (and Luke). “I'm not about to ruin your precious family moment with the truth.”

“See to it that you don't.”

“Seriously, why would I even bring it up?” Reid asked. “Josie's my patient, technically. I'm bound by doctor-patient confidentiality.” Paul glared. “It's a fucking holiday meal. Shut up, go back inside, kiss your wife, and eat the damn food.”

“Is everything okay out here?” Reid glanced away from Paul to see Luke standing there, his eyebrows raised in surprise.

“Everything's fine, Luke.” Paul answered, flashing him a smile.

“Good, because Grandma's getting ready to serve dinner.” Luke gave him a searching look before turning around and going back inside. Paul glared at Reid again.

“After you.” Reid gestured to the door.

Everyone cheered as the food was finally set on the table, and even Reid was feeling almost upbeat. He was seated between Katie and Luke, and it wasn't a terrible place to be. There were so many people that the younger kids had been moved to a table just off the kitchen, in the parlor, with the teens to supervise - even still, it was a tight fight and Luke's thigh was pressed right against his.

Emma stood up and started talking, and Reid tuned her out until he heard his name, and felt the eyes of everyone at the table. He flashed a half smile and she kept going. Finally, after Meg announced what she and Paul were naming their baby (though Reid was under the impression that Paul should never have children - who knew what he was capable of), Emma urged everyone to hold hands to say Grace.

Reid had never been much of a religious person - he didn't go to church and he couldn't remember the last time he'd prayed. But right then, when Luke took his hand, it felt a little bit like Heaven on Earth. Everyone's eyes were closed, except for his and Luke's. They were staring at each other, Luke tracing the skin of Reid's hand with his fingertips.

Fuck.

Luke licked his lips.

Reid gave him a knowing look.

Luke just smiled...and then frowned, remembering that Noah was holding his other hand.

Luke tried really hard not to touch Reid after that.

Dinner was over, and people were starting to leave. Reid escaped to the back porch again, even though it was starting to really get cold out. He couldn't stand to be in the house one more minute, making small talk with people he didn't know and could care less about. He sat down on the wicker love seat, hiding in the shadows, hoping that he could sit there undisturbed until Katie and Brad were ready to leave.

Luke and Noah didn't see him sitting there when they walked by, heading out to the lawn.

Reid rolled his eyes as he heard Luke wish that Noah didn't have to leave. He was weaving around and Reid hoped Luke wouldn't trip or fall or faint. Reid didn't really want to have to explain to Luke's family why his professional diagnoses was that Luke just needed to 'sleep it off'.

Reid shamelessly eavesdropped, listening as Noah asked about Luke and the way he was with Brian. Reid had wondered about that too, and he hated that Noah asked him first.

“You don't want to know.” Luke sounded upset, and that worried Reid. You didn't have a tone of voice like that without a reason.

“Yeah, I do.” Noah insisted. “Or I wouldn't have asked.”

“Maybe you should ask Brian.” Luke said quietly. Warning flags were starting to go off in Reid's brain as the subject being discussed crossed the porch without so much as look in Reid's direction, joining the two men outside.

Brian told them that he and Lucinda were getting ready to leave and Reid could see relief flash across Luke's face for a second...only to be replaced with an undefinable expression as Noah put his hand on Luke's arm and said he was leaving too. Noah wished Luke a 'Happy Thanksgiving' and then walked away.

“Thank you.” Luke snapped at Brian. “Thank you very much.”

“You know, Luke, I thought that after I helped you get sober the other night, that things were better between us.”

Hold the phone. Reid leaned forward. This was going somewhere he didn't like.

“Are you serious?” Luke asked in disbelief.

“What's your problem?”

“As if you don't know.” Luke turned to go back towards the house when Brian spoke again, reaching out his hand and brushing Luke's shoulder as if to stop him. Luke shied away from Brian's touch.

“Don't touch me.” Reid stood up.

Fuck.

Brian was...was Brian coming on to Luke?

Holy shit. Brian is gay and hitting on his wife's grandson?

Brian went on about breath mints and Luke smelling like alcohol.

“What are you going to do?” Luke asked. “Tell on me?” The rest of Luke's immediate family came outside then, and Reid pulled himself further back into the shadows. “You better not, Brian. You've got a lot more to lose than I do.” Luke turned and stalked off towards the barn.

Reid waited until the coast was clear, and set off after him.
