Author's Note: This story starts the night that Noah finds Luke in Olde Towne and takes him home. It picks up right after Noah leaves. In my head, that makes Luke 19 and Reid 30,(using the DVD of Reid around 12 yrs old as being taped in 1990). This might end up being the dirtiest thing I've ever written. *hides* Huge thank you's to my official beta for this fic, stl29tide, and alissablue for all her EPIC research. :)

Ok - Reid's reason for being in town is revealed in this chapter. Basically, I'm hijacking the Paul/Josie/Dusty plot for my purposes. Don't know who Josie is? (Don't feel bad, I'd forgotten all about her). If you visit Dusty's Wikipedia page here, you can read up on it. I'm changing mostly just the dates for the plot, so it runs alongside Luke's plot line. I will probably AU it a lot. Also, in my fic, Dusty/Josie have known each other for a few weeks, and it was Paul's idea to call in Reid (He told Dusty that it was prove Josie was faking, but in reality he wants Reid to keep his scheme going).

Reid was nursing the hangover from hell. Not only did he have to be at the hospital in an hour, but he was desperate for caffeine. A quick stop in Olde Towne (What the fuck? Who still spells shit with an ‘e’ on the end?) indicated that Oakdale had never heard of Starbucks, and that his coffee would either come from a diner (Al’s) or a coffee shop (Java). Deciding that he couldn’t handle the smell of greasy diner food, he headed into the coffee shop.

A perky blond woman ran into him, literally, spilling her coffee every where.

“Son of a bitch.” Reid swore, the hot liquid dousing his clothes, burning his skin.

“Oh, my God.” The blond looked devastated. “I’m so sorry.”

“Sorry?” Reid snapped. “You nearly scalded me, and you’re sorry?”

“It was an accident.” She looked like she was ready to cry. “I wasn’t watching where I was going.”

“Clearly.” Reid glared. “And now my clothes have quite possibly been seared to my skin.”

“That’s a little dramatic, don’t you think?” She looked angry now.

“Says the one who burned me.”

“Who the hell do you think you are?” She stopped trying to help him wipe the coffee off.

“Dr. Reid Oliver.” He answered. “And you are clearly an idiot who can’t walk and hold coffee at the same time.”

“You’re a doctor?” She seemed thrown.

“I have the stethoscope and the lab coat to prove it.”

“Are you always this nasty to people?”

“Only when they spill incredibly hot coffee on me.” He answered, walking past her to the counter and placing his order with a tall brunette boy.

“You’ve got a real attitude for a podiatrist.” She crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at him now.

“First, you’re the one who spilled coffee on me. I was minding my own business until I ended up all wet.” He paused. “I look like a podiatrist?”

The blond stared at him for a long moment and then broke into laughter. Reid felt his lip twitch.

“I really am sorry I spilled coffee on you.” She apologized again. “Honest.”

“I…shouldn’t have gotten so upset.” He allowed. “I’ve got a bad headache and I’ve had to sleep in a hotel the last few nights.”

“I’ll tell you what.” She said. “You’re coffee is on me.” He nodded, and she stepped forward to pay as the barista handed Reid his coffee. “Here, Noah. I got it.” Katie handed the money to the boy behind the counter. “Keep the change.”

“Thanks, Katie.” She smiled at him and he smiled back.

“Katie Snyder.” Katie turned and held her hand out for Reid to shake. He took it reluctantly, and then started to walk away.

“So what kind of doctor are you, anyway?” Katie asked, falling in step beside him. “And what do you have against hotels?”

“You’re awful nosy for someone I just met.” She wrinkled up her nose as she smiled.

“It’s part of my charm.”

“She doesn’t need all these tests.” Paul snapped, forcefully handing the chart back to Reid.

“You’re the one who wanted this to look real.” Reid kept his tone even, his face expressionless. “If this was any normal consult, these are the tests I would run.”

“This is over ten thousand dollars worth of testing.” Paul looked irate. “You can’t possibly -“

“You are the one who dragged me to Oakdale, which by the way, is the most self-absorbed, white-bread community I have ever seen.” Reid cut him off. “If I had my way, I’d be on the first flight out of here.”

“You listen here, Dr. Oliver -“

“No, you listen.” Reid had had enough. Between Katie spilling coffee all over him (necessitating a change of clothes and burn cream on his legs), his hangover, and Paul Ryan, he was just done. “I don’t like you.”

“I’m getting that.” Paul had a funny smile on his face again.

“This whole thing is insane.” Reid kept going. “I have patients back in Dallas that need me, and you’re keeping me trapped her against my will.”

“You can leave any time you like, Dr. Oliver.” Paul said, sounding almost agreeable.

“Really.” Reid replied, his tone dry.

“And the minute you’re on the plane, I’ll be making a well timed phone call to the Texas medical review board.”

“Exactly.” Reid glared. “You’re the one who wanted me here, so if we’re going to do this, we’re going to do this my way.” He held up the chart. “We’re doing the damn tests. Maybe I’ll find some actual brain damage that would explain she’s going along with your plan.”

“That would be amazing.” Paul told him, looking intrigued.

“We can hope.”

Reid knocked on the door to Katie’s place and sighed. The perky blond had invited him for dinner, even though all Reid really wanted to do was go back to his hotel and sleep for a week (even if the sheets were germ infested).

“You came!” Katie exclaimed as she opened the door.

“Yeah, I came. Let’s not get all weepy.” Reid replied, as she moved aside so he could walk in. “You offered food. I’m physically incapable of turning that down.” Katie laughed.

“Reid, this is my husband, Brad Snyder.” Reid nodded at the slightly goofy looking brunette sitting on the couch. “Brad, this is Dr. Reid Oliver.”

“You like football?” Brad asked, as Reid slipped his coat off. Katie took it from him and disappeared into a bedroom.

“I’m from Texas. You pretty much have to love it, or they kick you out of the state.” Brad laughed as Reid sat down on the couch.

Katie had a horrified look on her face as Reid helped himself to thirds of dinner.

“Where do you put it?” She asked.

“It takes a lot of energy to be as brilliant as I am.” Katie stuck her tongue out at him.

“You sure to talk a big game, Dr. Oliver.” She teased. Reid couldn’t help but notice the sour look on Brad’s face.

“So, Reid.” Brad said. “You got anyone special waiting for you back in Dallas?”

“Nope.” He answered, popping the ‘p’.

“Brad!” Katie admonished, smacking his arm lightly.

“It’s okay, Katie.” Reid replied. He’d just figured it out - Brad was jealous. “I’m not her type, Brad.”

“What?” Katie gasped. “Are you jealous?” She accused her husband.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Brad wanted to know, ignoring his wife.

“Exactly what it sounded like.” He told him. “I’m not her type.” Brad still looked confused. “I’m gay.” Reid finally said.

“Oh.” Brad looked relieved. “Hey, one of my cousins is gay!” He exclaimed. Reid rolled his eyes.

“How nice for you.” He glanced at his watch. “I should probably get going.”

“Hey, listen.” Katie stood up when Reid did. “What are you doing tomorrow?” Reid gave her a blank stare. “Thanksgiving?”

“Nothing.”

“Well, that is unacceptable.” Katie put her hands on her hips.

“Excuse me?” Reid asked, amused. She looked so defiant and foreboding for someone barely over five feet tall.

“You’re coming with me and Brad to the Snyder farm for dinner tomorrow, and I’m not taking no for an answer.”

“A farm?” Reid could feel the look of disgust forming on his face. “Like, with animals?”

“It’s a horse farm.” Brad answered. “There’s going to be tons of people, tons of food.”

“Sounds like a family thing.” Reid tried to refuse, sounding awkward.

“Nonsense.” Katie insisted.

“There’s always room for one more at Emma Snyder’s table.” Brad added. “She’s just going to keep hounding you until you agree.”

“Fine, fine.” Reid gave in. Katie gave a little squeal.

“We’ll stop by and pick you up.” He nodded. Anything to get out of there.

Katie showed him to the door, and Reid knew he was going to regret the next day.
