Author's Note: This story starts the night that Noah finds Luke in Olde Towne and takes him home. It picks up right after Noah leaves. In my head, that makes Luke 19 and Reid 30,(using the DVD of Reid around 12 yrs old as being taped in 1990). This might end up being the dirtiest thing I've ever written. *hides* Huge thank you's to my official beta for this fic, stl29tide, and alissablue for all her EPIC research. :)

Basically, I'm hijacking the Paul/Josie/Dusty plot for my purposes. Don't know who Josie is? If you visit Dusty's Wikipedia page here, you can read up on it. I'm changing mostly just the dates for the plot, so it runs alongside Luke's plot line. I will probably AU it a lot. Also, in my fic, Dusty/Josie have known each other for a few weeks, and it was Paul's idea to call in Reid (He told Dusty that it was prove Josie was faking, but in reality he wants Reid to keep his scheme going).

More of things you will not like....and before I forgot, for those who've seen this plot on the show, Jade is not in any legal trouble here. Just home for Christmas. :D

*runs and hides*

“I can’t believe you weren’t going to tell me.” Jade looked at Luke with accusing eyes.

“It’s not exactly something I would go around announcing.” Jade rolled her eyes.

“I repeat ‘remember who you’re talking to’.” She said, rolling her eyes. “If you can’t tell this to me, who can you tell?”

“Well, promise me that you won’t tell anyone.”

“You know me better than that.” Jade smiled. “Besides, who am I to begrudge you what sounds like really, really great sex?”

Luke turned about three shades of red, smiling back.

“It’s too bad he’s not calling you back.”

“I’m done worrying about it.” Luke said, sitting up straight. He had been lounging back against the arm of the couch. “Let’s get out of here, go get some coffee or something.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

*

They were walking through Olde Towne, near Java, when Luke saw him.

Reid.

He stopped mid-stride, unsure what he should do. Pretend he didn’t see him? Demand an explanation?

Jade noticed that he stopped walking and followed his gaze to where Reid was.

“Holy hell, Luke.” She muttered. “Is that him?”

“Yep.”

“How old is he?”

“I don’t know.” Luke answered. “It never came up.”

“If I were you, I’d never leave his bed either.”

“Jade!” Luke exclaimed, mortified. Unfortunately, he was louder than he’d meant to be, and Reid was close enough to hear him. They watched as Reid saw them, paused, checked his watch and then slowly made his way towards them.

“Hi.” Luke greeted Reid, feeling nervous. He glanced at Jade, and then back at Reid’s neutral expression. “Jade, this is Dr. Reid Oliver. Reid, this is my cousin, Jade Taylor.”

Reid nodded at her, and she smiled.

“I think I’ll let you two…talk.” She walked away, going to over to sit on a near by bench to wait.

“It’s nice to know I exist.” Luke meet Reid’s gaze. He didn’t say anything. “Well?”

“What do you want me to say, Luke?” Reid shrugged. “It was fun while it lasted.” Confused, Luke didn’t know how to respond to that. There was an aching in his chest at those words he didn’t want to examine too closely.

“Why are you treating me like this?” Luke whispered.

“Like what?” Reid asked. “Like you treated me? You didn’t call for days either.”

“So, what, this is payback?”

“I don’t play games.” Reid answered, sounding offended. “I’m not that guy.” He paused. “This is me saying that we’re done.”

“That’s really cold, even for you.” Luke had seen the way Reid interacted with everyone, seen the rude way he treated them. Except with Luke, and maybe Katie.

Reid shrugged.

“You know, you can pretend that you don’t have feelings.” Luke snapped. “But you did have feelings about this, about us.”

“There is no us, Mr. Snyder.” Reid turned to walk away, and Luke moved in front of him.

“I don’t believe you.” He said, his tone low and rough. “Mr. Snyder. After everything we shared.”

“What we shared, Luke, were a couple of really hot fucks.” Reid replied, looking disinterested. “Nothing more.”

“So that’s all it was?” Luke asked, surprised by the amount of emotion in his voice.

“You’re in love with another man, Luke, and I’m going to be on the first flight back to Dallas the minute that Paul is done torturing the people in his life.” Reid reminded him. “It is what it is.”

With that, Reid stepped around him and headed for Java. Luke stood there for a moment, his arms crossed over his chest. Jade came up next to him, putting a hand on his arm.

“That looked brutal.” She commented and Luke glared. “Let’s just…forget about him. We’ll get our coffee as planned.”

Luke nodded and followed Jade as they walked toward Java.

Reid took a deep breath before he stepped inside Java, trying not to glare at the brunette behind the counter. Of course, Noah Mayer would be working today. He gave his order quietly, and once it was ready, took it over to join Katie where she was sitting in the corner.

“So, how’s things?” Katie asked, once he was sitting down. He took a sip of his drink before he answered.

“Fine.”

“Wow, Reid. Way to vague that up for me.” He glared.

“Things are fine.” Katie snorted.

“You don’t really do small talk, do you?”

“If you hadn’t promised me coffee, I probably wouldn’t be here.” Reid answered her honestly.

“Gee, thanks.” He gave her a look.

“I’m not a small talk kind of guy, Katie.”

“Clearly.” She just smiled at his surly attitude, and launched into a story about something and she and Brad had done on their show. He still couldn’t believe he was friends with someone like Katie. She was just…so opposite him.

He was listening, rolling his eyes at something Brad had done, when Luke and his cousin walked in. Reid saw them out of the corner of his eye, and watched as they approached the counter. He tried not to flinch as Noah caught sight of Jade and came around the counter to hug the girl.

The Snyders had made it pretty clear that Noah Mayer was family, and this girl seemed no exception.

Luke shot him a cursory glance and Reid shifted his gaze back to Katie, who was staring at him.

“What?” He asked, taking another sip of coffee.

“How are things going with Luke?”

“Do we have to talk about this?”

“Yeah, I think we do.” Katie gave him another long look.

“There is nothing between me and Luke.”

“So, what, you just had one night in a barn?” Disbelief was written all over her face.

“Not…exactly.” Reid told her. “Whatever it was, it’s over.” He gestured with his hand towards Luke. “He’s in love with Noah, and he’s a complete mess. I’m the last thing he needs.”

“So you ended whatever it was that you were…for him?” Reid nodded.

“Well, well, well, Dr. Oliver.”

“What?” He said again.

“You’ve got a thing for Luke.” She was grinning wide enough to give the Cheshire cat a run for his money. He glared a second time.

“I do not have a thing for Luke Snyder.” He nearly snapped.

“Uh huh.” Katie clearly didn’t believe him.

“Can we drop this? It’s done.”

“Sure.” She agreed. “So what are you doing for Christmas?” He blinked at her, surprised by the abrupt change in topic.

“Working.”

“The whole day?”

“The morning. Why?”

“Come to the farm for Christmas with me and Brad.”

“No way, Katie.” Now he saw where she was going with this. “I can see the matchmaking going on behind those eyes. I told you, Luke and I are over.”

She was still looking at him expectantly. He swore under his breath.

“Don’t look at me like that.” Reid sighed. “Damn it, Katie.”

She kept staring.

“Fine, all right, I’ll have Christmas the farm.” He snapped, a little louder than he’d intended. He glanced up to see the unholy trio at the counter was staring at him now too.

“Great.” She smiled. “Oh, what are you doing Friday?”

“What now?” He pinched the bridge of his nose between his finger and his thumb, a headache with Katie’s name on it forming behind his eyes.

“Brad and Henry are throwing Jack a bachelor party. You should go.”

“Who’s doing what now?” Reid asked.

“Brad and my best friend Henry are throwing Jack, Luke’s cousin, a bachelor party and you should go.”

“Katie…”

“You need to get out and enjoy life a little, Reid.”

“I really don’t.”

“Luke will be there.” Reid sighed.

“I hate you.” He glared at her.

“I’ll tell Brad you're in.” She chirped, looking satisfied with herself.

“I’m going to go to work before you talk me into anything else.” Reid got up, bending down and dropping a kiss on her cheek before walking out. He tried not to look at Luke as he did.

Tried…and failed.
