Author's Note: Huge thank you's to my official beta for this fic, stl29tide, and alissablue for all her EPIC research. :)

Luke was sitting with Reid in Olde Towne, making plans to meet up with Reid for lunch when Jade tried to slink by.

“Jade.” Luke called, getting up. She froze in mid-step and turned back around. She wore a sheepish expression as Luke approached, Reid following a step behind him.

“Hi.” She bit her lip. “Hi, Dr. Oliver.”

“Jade.” Reid greeted. “Considering you locked me in a closet with your cousin, I think we're a little past titles.”

“I'm really sorry about that.” Jade apologized. “Katie and I thought we were doing a good thing.” She paused. “She told me that you're claustrophobic. We wouldn't have done it if we'd known.” Reid cleared his throat, looking awkward. Luke slipped his arm around Reid's waist and pressed close, knowing that the doctor hated looking weak in front of anyone.

“It wasn't all bad.” Luke murmured, nuzzling his nose against Reid's cheek. Jade let out a little shriek.

“It did work!” She exclaimed, looking happy.

“Don't look so proud of yourself, cuz.” Luke told her. “If you ever lock me in a closet again, literally or figuratively...”

“I got it. I won't, I swear.” She promised. “How are things between your and your parents and Lucinda?”

“They pretty much suck.” Luke answered. “Grandmother won't talk to me. I don't know if she'll ever get over what Brian did to her. My mother's blaming me for hurting Noah. Dad's been okay though. He's trying to keep the peace, I guess.”

“I'm sorry.”

“It's my own fault, Jade.”

“What happened with Brian is not your fault.” Reid spoke up. “He made his own decisions and took advantage of you were you weren't thinking clearly.”

“People could say the same thing about you. I think my mother has.” Luke said.

“Okay, well, I think this is probably a conversation you two should have by yourselves.” Jade gave them a wave and then continued on her way.

“The difference between me and Brian, Mr. Snyder, is that you liked it when I came onto you.”

“I did.” Luke smiled before kissing him. “I still do.”

“We do have the whole day to what ever we want...” Reid raised his eyebrows at Luke.

“And I thought I was the one who couldn't control himself.” Luke pressed himself up against Reid, putting his arms around Reid's neck.

Luke's phone rang and they both groaned. Reid buried his face in Luke's neck.

“Don't answer it.”

“Let me at least see who it is.” He pulled the phone out of his pocket and sighed. “It's my Grandmother. I should see what she wants.” Luke opened the phone and put it to his ear.

“Hi, Grandma.” He said into the phone.

“Hi, dear.” She said, sounding brusque. “I just wanted to give you the heads up.”

“About what?” Luke asked, sitting back down on the bench. Reid sighed and took the seat beside him.

“Brian...was here at the office.”

“Are you all right?” Luke covered the mouthpiece on the phone at Reid's concerned look. “Brian was there.” He whispered. Reid raised his eyebrows in reply.

“Of course I'm all right.” Lucinda answered. “I'm just calling you because I didn't want you to be caught off guard.”

“Oh, okay.”

“I don't trust him.” Lucinda said. “I don't know why he's resurfaced now.”

“He didn't say why he was there?” Luke wanted to know.

“Darling, who cares?” She replied. “Anyway, the point is, I'm calling you because I just wanted you to know. I know that you and Noah aren't back together and I don't want Brian trying to take advantage of that.”

“Grandmother, I'm not exactly single these days.”

“So your mother was right about you and Dr. Oliver.”

“Yes.”

“Well, good then.” Lucinda told him. “The two of you just be together and have a lovely day, can you do that for me?”

“Of course. Easily.” Luke promised.

“Thank you, Darling. That's the reason I was calling.” The dial tone sounded in Luke's ear as she hung up.

“What's wrong?” Reid asked, seeing his expression. “Is she okay?” Luke knew that Reid didn't really care for much for his family, but he did seem to like Lucinda, and it was nice that he asked, even if he didn't really want to know.

“She said she's fine, but...how could she be?” Luke answered. “She was devastated when it all fell apart and she learned what Brian had been doing.” He paused. “Do you think I should go talk to her?”

“Do you think that's a good idea?”

“I don't know. I messed up a lot and I hurt my family a lot and I don't know how to go about making that up to them and getting things back the way they were.”

“Luke, they hurt you too, whether they knew they were doing it or not.”

“Reid...”

“I'm serious, Luke. If you try to take the full blame for the failure in your relationships with your family...”

“I think I'm going to go talk to her. I've gotta start somewhere, right?”

“Luke, I mean it. What happened with Brian was not your fault.”

“Yeah, but I could have told her.”

“Maybe, but it would hurt just as much either way.”

*

Luke touched his grandmother's arm lightly and smiled at her. Coming to talk to her had been the right thing to do.

His phone rang and Luke glanced at the id.

“Noah?” He answered the phone. His grandmother turned around, interested.

“Luke?” Noah said after a moment's hesitation. “I'm sorry to bother you, but-”

“No, it's cool, what's going on?” There was a long pause.

“Brian came to Java.”

“He did?” Luke asked. “Why?”

“He said he wanted to see you, but he was acting really weird.”

“Weird how?”

“He wasn't himself.” Noah replied. “And he kept saying that he wished we'd been able to work it out. He offered to talk to you for me.”

“That is a little weird.” Luke tried not to feel awkward about what Noah had said, but it was hard.

“He kept saying he wanted to 'end things right'.”

“End things?” Luke repeated. “You don't think he meant...”

“I don't know, but that's...that's why I'm calling you.” Noah sighed. “I followed him back to the Lakeview and now he won't answer his door. I'm worried he might try and hurt himself.”

“You really think he would?”

“He did not look good, Luke.” Noah answered. “You think I should call the police?”

“No, don't do that. I'll be there as soon as I can.”

He hung up with Noah and explained what was going on to his grand mother, trying to get her to come with him. She refused, and Luke headed for the door with a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. Dialing as he walked, he put the phone back up to his ear.

“Reid?” Luke said, when the neurosurgeon answered. “Can you meet me at the Lakeview?”

*

“You know,” Reid said, pulling Luke closer as they walked down the hallway of the Lakeview. “When you asked me to meet you here, stopping Brian from attempting suicide was not what I thought you had in mind.”

“Sorry if you had grand romantic plans, Doc.” Luke replied, as they rounded the corner and Noah came into sight.

“And yet one more detail you left out.” Reid sighed, seeing the brunette standing there. Luke made a face as they approached Noah, not commenting.

“Anything?” Luke asked Noah, trying to ignore the glare Noah was currently bestowing on Reid.

“No.” Noah finally said, glancing at Luke. “He's been totally silent.” Luke moved around Noah, and knocked.

“Brian, open the door.” Silence. “It's Luke.” He knocked again. “I know you're in there, you know my mom's a part owner of this hotel.” The door flew open, and Brian was standing there.

“Brian...” Luke said, taking in the older man's appearance. “You don't look so good.”

*

Luke was glad it was over. Finally over. Brian was going to get some help, take back his life, and his grandmother, who'd shown up after all, could finally have some closure.

Reid was waiting for him in the hall and Luke gave him a small smile.
“What?” Reid said, reading his mood. Luke sighed again, and said the most dreaded words in any relationship.

“We need to talk.”
