After a quick trip past the hospital for supplies (with Luke adamantly refusing to be re-admitted), they arrived back at Lily’s.

It took almost twenty minutes for Luke to make it up the stairs. Reid wouldn’t have even let him attempt it, except that there were no beds on the first floor.

Fucking Lily and her fucking house.

Finally reaching Luke’s room, Noah helped Reid get Luke on his bed.

He collapsed with a groan, his head hitting the pillow. Holden and Lily followed them up, clucking over Luke like mother hens. Reid managed to kick them out (“Trust me, you really don’t want to watch this.”), and set about helping Luke get his shirt off.

Luke grabbed at Reid’s hand as he pulled the fabric over Luke’s head.

“Thank you for doing this.” Luke whispered, staring at him. Reid helped him lie back down.

“Don’t thank me.” Reid replied, going through his bag and getting out the stuff he needed. “I should be marching you back to the hospital and checking you back in.”

“I just can’t be there, when I can be here, trying to find my daughter.”

“It’s not going to do any good to find Rose if you’re dead, Luke.”

“It’s not that bad, Reid.”

“But it could have been, and it could be if this wound gets infected and if you don’t stop popping your stitches out.” Reid injected a local anesthetic into Luke’s abdomen while he talked.

“Ow, fuck.” Luke swore.

“Sorry.”

“No, you’re not.” Luke smiled at him. Reid couldn’t help but return his smile.

“You are very frustrating.”

“I know.” Luke said. Reid wanted to keep him talking, to distract him from what he was about to do. He threaded the needle quickly, and glanced at Luke to see the younger man watching his every move.

“Don’t watch.” Reid advised, noticing that Luke looked a little green. That was better than the pallid gray he’d been earlier. Reid quickly cut through the old stitches, pulling out the thread.

“Yeah.” Luke breathed, closing his eyes. “That’s probably a good idea.” He inhaled sharply as Reid pressed the needle into the skin.

“Am I hurting you?” Reid asked.

“No…just pressure.”

“Don’t think about it.” Luke snorted. “Don’t laugh either.”

“What should I do then?”

“Talk about something else.”

“What did you say to Damian?” Luke’s fingers clenched the bed sheet as Reid pressed the needle through.

“You can’t ask any easy questions?”

“Nope.”

“I told him to leave you alone.” Reid answered, only giving half the truth.

“How’d he take that?”

“I think he’ll listen.” Reid said, still stitching.

“Let’s hope.” Luke replied, his voice soft. “You know, he’s the reason I blackmailed you to come here.”

“What?” Reid asked, his hand pausing as he glanced at Luke. Luke looked a little ashamed.

“Noah said you were the best, the only doctor who could fix him, and you wouldn’t even take my call.” Luke told him. Reid sat there quietly, his hand frozen, listening to Luke talk. “Damian suggested that instead of finding someone else, that we blackmail you instead.”

“So he’s the one who dug up the dirt on me?” Reid wanted to know, his hand moving again. He was almost done.

“Not exactly.” Luke bit his lip. “I didn’t actually…have anything on you.”

“What?!” Reid exclaimed. “You’re kidding.”

“No.” Luke replied. “I made it up.” He cracked an eye open. “I was just so desperate to get you here, to have you fix Noah. I didn’t know what else to do.”

“I don’t know what to say.” Reid finished the stitches, tying off the thread and cutting it with scissors. He opened a package of gauze and began taping it down across Luke’s abdomen.

“I should regret it.” Luke whispered, both eyes open now. He grabbed at Reid’s hand, holding it tightly. “I don’t. If I hadn’t forced you to come here, I wouldn’t have you.”

“I should be mad at you, but I’m not.” Reid told him, smiling. “Now let me finish this.” He pulled his hand from Luke’s, and finished taping the gauze down. Reid threw the trash away, putting every thing else back in his bag. Slowly he sat down on the bed next to Luke, doing his best to slide over and not jostle the younger man.

“Hi.” Luke said, smiling at him.

“Hi, yourself.” Reid leaned down and kissed, soft and slow and deep, and Luke sighed against his lips.

“I don’t know how I’d get through this without you.” Luke admitted, after Reid pulled away. “It feels like a part of me is missing. Like having an arm or leg cut off.” Reid ran his fingers through Luke’s hair, scratching his scalp gently. He could see tears forming in Luke’s eyes, and helplessness washed over him.

“We’ll find her, Luke.” Reid promised.

“I just keep thinking that she must be so scared, Reid.” Luke’s voice wobbled and then cracked. “And I’m not there. I’m not there to tell her it’ll be okay.” With that, the sob that Luke was fighting broke loose, and he shuddered. Reid slipped his arms around Luke, holding him as tightly as he dared.

“I know.” Reid murmured. “I know, Luke.”

“You feel the same way, don’t you?”

“You and that kid are…” Reid started to say, trailing off. His voice was thick with emotion, and Luke blinked at him with tear filled eyes. “We’re going to get Rose back.” Luke gave him a long look, and then smiled a little.

“I believe you.” Reid kissed him again, because he didn’t know what else to do or say. It seemed to be the right thing to do, because Luke was kissing him back.

“I just wish we had a lead.” Luke whispered, breaking the kiss to rest his forehead against Reid’s cheek.

“Where would he go?”

“Some place that reminds him of Zoe, I would think.” Luke replied. “Do you think he’s left town?”

“If it was me, I would.” Reid answered. “But the cops have been watching the airports, bus stations, train stations….” He paused.

“That’s it.” Luke looked stunned.

“What?” Reid asked, as Luke struggled to sit up. He helped Luke, still confused. Luke was smiling now, wiping his tears away as he looked at Reid.

“I think I know where they are.”
