Title: Down the Rabbit Hole
Author: slayerkitty
Genre: Romance, Angst, AU
Warnings: Implied rape, Implied incest (I'm not sure I need this one, but Zoe and Luke are technically related)
Rating: R
Spoilers: None
Characters: Luke/Reid, Past Luke/Noah, Other Misc characters
Disclaimer: As the World Turns and it's characters are not mine, no matter how much I enjoy playing with them. :)
Summary: What if Zoe succeeded in her plans to have Luke's baby?

Author's Notes: Flashbacks are in italics, and there are several lines of dialogue from the show (flashbacks) in the first few chapters. This story picks up right after Luke has promised Reid that his foundation will donate money to the new wing. That means no elevator, no Dallas, etc. Also, I know nothing about DNA testing, so I made up how I thought it would read. :)

Previous Chapters: Prologue/ 1/ 2/ 3

Reid watched as Luke took the envelope, his hands shaking. He wanted to comfort the younger man, and he hated himself for it.

He didn’t want to want Luke Snyder.

The blond was privileged, entitled, and every other synonym he could think of to describe someone with money. And yet, Luke was a contradiction, because even though he clearly was used to having money, and things being done his way, he still did his best to help others. And he loved. Luke Snyder loved with his whole heart.

That was the thing Reid hated most about him.

He didn’t want how much Luke Snyder loved Noah Mayer thrown in his face all the time, but there it was.

Luke’s hands were trembling so badly he couldn’t get the envelope open. Reid almost ripped the damn thing from Luke’s fingers, just to get it open and put an end to the drama. Luke’s mother took it from him, sliding a finger under the flap and opening it up. Luke looked like he was going to hyperventilate, and Reid started to get concerned.

Luke should not be this upset about paternity test results for a baby that wasn’t his. Unless…

Lily unfolded the documents and began reading.

“It is determined that sample A is a genetic match to the child in question…” Lily’s voice trailed off and she looked at her son. Luke’s eyes had gone wide, a sheen of unshod tears across them. He was still biting his lip, slowly backing away from them. “Luke?” Lily said.

“I…” He tried to say. “I can’t…” With that, Luke turned and fled, down the hall and through the double doors at the end. The sound of the door hitting the wall echoed with a loud crack.

“Margo, how is this possible?” Lily looked upset, and Reid couldn’t blame her.

“I think a lot more went on in that storage locker than Luke let on.”

Reid wondered where Luke had gone as he headed back to his office. Lily was frantic; worried about Luke and a grandchild she didn’t even know she was going to have. Reid had left her, half hysterical, with Detective Hughes.

He opened the door to his office, and was startled to see Luke Snyder sitting down in one of his chairs.

“Mr. Snyder?” Reid said, getting his attention.

He looked bad. Really bad.

“I didn’t know where else to go.” Luke said softly.

“And being in my office helps how?” Reid lifted an eyebrow at him as he spoke.

“It was empty.” He sounded lost, and Reid resisted the urge to touch him. He had a feeling that being touched right now would not go over well with Luke. Reid moved around him, and sat down in his desk chair.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“No.”

“Do you even want to know about the baby?” That got a response. Luke looked up at him. “It’s a girl.”

“Please stop.” Luke whispered.

“It’s not everyday you become a father, Mr. Snyder.”

He whimpered, and Reid knew he was close to breaking.

“What are you going to name her?”

Luke stood up suddenly, knocking his chair over. Reid leaned back in chair, interested to see what Luke would do.

He didn’t disappoint.

Luke picked up the chair he’d been sitting it and hurled against the wall, where it cracked and fell to the floor with a bounce. With a cry, he turned around and started picking things up off of Reid’s desk and throwing them at the wall too. When he started punching and kicking at Reid’s desk, Reid knew he had to stop him. Reid got up, and moved around his desk, stopping in front of Luke. He reached out and took the younger man's hands.

“Luke.” He said as Luke struggled against his grip. “That’s enough.”

It was the first time Reid ever called Luke by his first name, and it clearly startled him.

“What did you...?” Luke’s eyes moved rapidly, unable to stop long enough to focus on one thing.

“Luke. It is your name, isn’t it?” Luke stared at him for a second, and then he choked out a sob. His face crumpled, and before Reid could stop himself, he was pulling Luke against him.

Luke shuddered violently, the force of his grief ripping through him as he clawed desperately at Reid. It was all Reid could do to hold onto him, as Luke was alternately clinging to him and trying to push him away.

They sank to the floor, Luke's sobs echoing throughout the otherwise silent room.

A/N: On a more fluffy topic, baby gets named in chapter 8. Yes, I know that's four chapters away. Yes, this day goes on FOREVER. Anyway. I have point. I've had the first name picked out since before the fic started (and I know I told at least one person), but I'm keeping it a secret until it's revealed in the story. Having said that, I have no middle name picked out, and I can't think of one that I like.

So. I know you don't know the first name I have picked out, but hit me with your suggestions for a middle name please. :)

If you want to guess at the first name you can, but I will neither confirm, nor deny. I'm sure I would enjoy reading your responses. If you're one of the ones I told...shhhh! :)
