Luke rolled over in bed, rubbing his face with his hands. He checked the clock and sighed. It was far too late to still be awake, and way to early to consider getting up.

The fact that he couldn’t sleep had absolutely nothing to do with Dr. Reid Oliver.

Nothing at all.

Nope, he wasn’t replaying that kiss in his head on a continuous loop. He wasn’t reliving every second of Reid’s lips on his, the way he smelled, the touch of his hand. The sound of his voice.

Luke sighed again. He needed to get a grip.

He supposed in a way he was grateful. He would be thinking about horrible things if he wasn’t so preoccupied by the mystery that was Reid.

Reid liked him. Reid wanted him.

When did that happen? How did that happen?

Luke groaned.

He supposed it could be worse. He could be thinking about Zoe, and what she did to him, and how he was going to raise a baby.

Instead, he was lying in bed, thinking about a man. A man who, until 8 hours ago, he thought hated him.

“I don't hate you.”

“What?”

“I said, 'I don't hate you'.”

Luke punched his pillow in frustration. He just couldn’t figure Reid out.

“Luke, we can’t do this.”

“What? Why?”

“You know why.”

“I want this, I do.”

“I don’t want to be something to make you feel better.”

“Reid, please.”

“I’m not saying never, Luke. I think you just need some time.”

He lay there thinking until the clock rolled over to 4 am. Deciding it was late enough to get up, Luke headed for the shower and then a large cup of coffee. He sat down in the living room and stretched out on the couch, sipping his coffee tiredly.

There was a key in the front door, and Luke got up.

“You’re up early.” His dad said, bringing in Ethan’s old car seat.

“Couldn’t sleep.” Luke replied.

“I wanted to bring this stuff by before I started working with the new foal.”

“So you talked to Mom.”

“I did.” Holden paused for a second. “I wish you had told us.” He said.

“It was done, Dad.” Luke replied, uncomfortable. He didn’t want to talk about this. “I didn’t want to…I don’t know. I just wanted to forget it ever happened.”

“I can understand that, but Luke, we care about you.”

“I know that.”

“We would have been there for you.” Holden paused. “We’ll be there for you when you’re ready to talk about it.”

“I know that too.” Luke got up and hugged his father tightly, letting go after a long moment. .

“Are you bringing the baby home today?” Holden asked, changing the subject slightly. He moved back to the doorway and pulled a piece of crib inside.

“If her doctors say it’s okay.” Luke went over and started helping him carry the pieces inside.

“You got a name picked out?”

“I do actually.” Luke smiled. “But I want to tell Mom first, if that’s all right.”

“What ever you want.” Holden smiled.

“I see your father was here.” Lily said, walking into the living room. The baby stuff was piled in the corner, and Luke was looking hopelessly at the instructions for the crib.

“How did you guys ever get this stuff together?” Luke asked, throwing them down. Lily laughed.

“You let me worry about that.” She offered, taking the directions out of his hands. “Why don’t you head over the hospital and spend some time with your daughter. I’ll meet you there in a little bit.”

“You sure?” Luke got up, and grabbed his jacket.

“I’m sure.”

“Mom?” Luke slipped his jacket on, and headed for the door. “Thanks.”

“I didn’t expect to see you here.” Luke said, stopping in front of the nursery window. They’d moved the baby to the regular nursery during the night.

Reid looked at him, taking a sip of coffee from the cup he held.

“You look like crap.”

“Less than a minute.” Luke smiled. “New record?”

“I’m serious.”

“I didn’t sleep well.” He sighed. “Or at all.”

“It shows.”

“Thanks.” Reid smiled at his sarcasm. “So why are you here?”

“If I told you I was waiting for you, what would you say?” Luke looked at him, surprised. He smiled, blushing a little.

“You don’t have interns you’d rather torment in your free time?”

“As appealing as that idea is, I’d rather be here with you.”

“Reid, I…What is this?”

“What is what?”

“This. You.”

“I know you know more words than that.”

“Reid.” Their eyes locked, and Luke knew they were both thinking about the night before. Reid reached out slowly and took Luke’s hand.

“I’ve been wanting to kiss you for a long time, Luke.”

Luke didn’t know what to say to that, and thankfully he didn’t have to come up with anything. A loud beeping noise filled the hallway.

“And then that happened.” Reid checked his pager with a sigh. “I’ve got to go.”

“Sure.” Luke finally found his voice.

“I meant what I said, Luke.” Reid told him, letting go of his hand. “And remember. Don’t apologize.”

“I won’t.” Luke replied with a smile, and he watched Reid walk away. He turned back to the window, looking through it and searching until he spotted his daughter sleeping peacefully.
