Author: slayerkitty
Genre: Romance, Angst, AU
Warnings: Implied rape, Implied incest (I'm not sure I need this one, but Zoe and Luke are technically related)

Summary: What if Zoe succeeded in her plans to have Luke's baby?

Author's Notes: Flashbacks are in italics, and there are several lines of dialogue from the show (flashbacks) in the first few chapters. This story picks up right after Luke has promised Reid that his foundation will donate money to the new wing. That means no elevator, no Dallas, etc. Closest I've come to fluff in 13 chapters, and yet, not quite.

A few days went by, and Reid’s mind was constantly on his date with Luke when he wasn’t with his patients. He couldn’t quite wrap his mind around the idea that he and Luke were actually starting something. He might have wanted something to happen with Luke, but he’d never imagined it actually would. That was half the reason why he’d been so awful to Luke for so long. It was easier to just be mad at Luke for being Luke than to accept how he felt about him.

Things were different now.

He was in - he shuddered at even thinking the word - a relationship.

Dr. Reid Oliver was in a relationship with Luke fucking Snyder and loving it.

Speak of devil. Reid smirked as he saw Luke making his way down the hospital hallway, Rose in his arms.

“What are you doing here?” Reid asked, as Luke approached.

“Well, good morning to you too, sunshine.” That made Reid smile.

“Good morning.” He said. “What are you doing here?”

“Rose had a doctor’s appointment, and we thought we’d come say hi for a minute.” Luke smiled. “Hi.”

“Hi.”

“Surely you can do better than that.” Luke leaned over and kissed him lightly. Reid was uncomfortable as Luke pulled back.

“What?” Luke asked quietly, seeing a change in Reid’s expression.

“Nothing, it’s just…” Reid started. “I have a reputation to uphold, and if people see me kissing you in the hallway, all my hard work will go down the drain.”

Luke laughed.

“I’m pretty sure that I can only help your reputation.” He said. “I’ve been admitted to this hospital so many times I’ve lost count. They love me here.”

“Really?” Now Reid was interested.

“Yep.”

“That explains why you’re a first name basis with Bob Hughes.”

“And you thought it was just because I had money.” Luke shifted Rose while he talked, bouncing her lightly. He spotted a nurse staring at them over Reid’s shoulder. “We have an audience.”

“Who?”

“One of the nurses. Gretchen, I think.”

“She doesn’t like me.”

“Do any of them?” Reid tried to glare, but Luke just grinned.

“You could kiss me again, really make her day.”

“Do you really want to be hospital gossip?”

“Your ex is my patient. We’re already hospital gossip.”

“Seriously?”

“It’s not exactly a secret that I’m not thrilled how you got me here.” Reid looked sheepish. “I might have…complained loudly to anyone with in hearing distance.”

“So the fact that we’re talking nicely while I’m holding Rose is now going to be hospital fodder?”

“Completely.”

“Might as well go all the way then.” Luke kissed him quickly, an eye on Gretchen as he pulled back. He kept his gaze on her under the pretense of checking his watch.

“How’s she look?”

“Sort of a fish faced expression.”

“Interesting.”

“Well, Rose and I should get to her appointment before we’re late.” Luke replied, adjusting the strap on Rose’s diaper bag. “What’s the rest of your day like?”

“A few consults, couple of appointments. Some of my patients from Dallas will be coming in for their surgeries this week.”

“Sounds like you’ll be busy.”

“Probably.”

“Too busy for lunch?”

“Where?”

“The Lakeview.” Luke answered. “Kid-free, this time.”

Reid cracked a smile.

“I’ll pencil you in.”

“Good.” Luke smiled back. “I’ll see you later.” He glanced around Reid, where Gretchen was still standing, blatantly staring at them. “Bye, Gretchen.” She jumped, and Luke laughed as he walked away.

“Don’t you have patients?” Reid snapped at her as he passed by. She jumped again, and scurried off down the hall.

Reid laughed as he watched her go.

Sometimes it was a lot of fun being him.

Luke carried a crying Rose out of the doctor’s exam room, sighing. Shots were never easy, as he remembered with Ethan, and he wanted to get her home and down for a nap before his lunch with Reid. He didn’t want to leave a cranky baby with his mother if he could help it.

He was juggling the paperwork from her doctor in one hand and Rose in the other, and wasn’t paying attention.

“Sorry!” He explained, bumping into someone. Luke looked up and realized he’d bumped into Noah. “Noah!”

“Luke?”

“Yeah, it’s me.” He answered, making shushing sounds at Rose, who was still crying. “I’m sorry; I wasn’t watching where I was going.”

“Sounds like you have your hands full.”

“Shots.” Luke told him. “Listen, I need to get her home.”

“Luke, wait.” Noah stopped him. “I need to apologize for what I said last week.”

“You were just expressing your opinion, Noah.” Luke tried to keep the anger out of his voice.

“Yes, but I shouldn’t have said what I did.”

“It’s how you feel.” Rose was still crying, and Luke could feel his blood pressure rising.

“Luke, will you just let me apologize!”

“Keep your voice down, Rose is upset enough.” Luke snapped.

“Look, just…you’ll be a good dad, Luke.” Noah finally said. “I’ve see you with your brother and sisters. I was just upset that you just adopted Rose and didn’t even discuss it with me.”

“Why would I discuss it with you, Noah?” Luke cried, and Rose wailed louder. “We broke up, remember?”

“Luke…”

“You can’t keep doing this to me.”

“Doing what?”

“Pushing me away and then trying to pull me back in when you get lonely and or it’s convenient for you, or what ever the hell is going through your mind right now.” Luke’s voice was thick with emotion. “It’s stops now. I can’t do it anymore and I sure as hell can’t put Rose through that. My parents have done it to me and my brother and sisters our whole lives.”

“Luke!”

“No, damn it.” Luke snapped. “Just, no.” He sighed. “I can be your friend, Noah…but that’s it.” Luke tried not to let his tears flow, but one made its way down his cheek. “I have to go.”

With that, he turned and walked away.
