Picking Sasha up from the airport had been dramatic enough, what with the fifty questions as soon as she spotted DG at the baggage claim. Surprisingly, however, she took the news of DG leaving much better than DG had expected.

Josh, on the other hand... didn't take the news so well.

DG had come home from work just in time to find Cain telling Josh that they would be leaving once school ended. She'd pulled the two of them into the building and was trying to get them up to the apartment, but they'd only made it as far as the mailboxes. "What do you mean I can't come visit?" Josh asked, looking absolutely crushed at the information.

DG pulled Josh into a hug and threw a glance to Cain, who shrugged. "Sorry, Joshie... it's just..." She threw another glance to Cain, trying to decide if she should tell him the truth or not. "There's stuff about me and my family that... well, it's complicated."

"So? Uncomplicate it. What's the big deal? You disappear for a week with no bars and you won't even talk about home past 'Went home. Saw the folks. Saw my sister.' What's the big secret? Are they spies? Criminals?"

"Royal," Cain offered with a shrug. DG and Josh both looked at him - DG with a glare - and Josh turned to DG. All she could do was give him a shrug.

"Seriously?" Josh asked, near-speechless. DG nodded, as did Cain when Josh looked at him. Josh blinked and stared at the floor for a moment. "Well, that's not so bad," he said, shaking his head. He took a deep breath and looked up to DG. "So when he calls you 'Princess', he's callin' you..."

DG and Cain both nodded. "Holy crap," Josh said with a blank expression. He looked at DG again and cocked his head to one side. "Like: Queen DG-princess?" DG nodded. Josh threw a look to Cain. "Does that make you King Wyatt?" Cain rolled his eyes and shook his head.

"It doesn't work like that, Josh," DG sighed.

Josh turned back and shook his head. "So, what country?" Cain snorted and gave her a cheeky smile.

"Josh," she started with a heavy sigh. "It's really complicated and I need you not to say anything. To anyone... Ever." She gave him a pleading glance and he did a double-take.

"Well, Simon knows, too," Cain offered, gaining a dirty look from DG. "So, you could talk to him," he finished with a shrug.

DG put up a hand and looked at Josh. "Josh. I love you. But, right now... I can't tell you more. I'm really sorry. But I just can't."

Josh frowned and turned to Cain, who gave him a similar look. "What is the big deal?" Josh shouted, stepping away from both of them. "You're acting like you live on some other planet!" DG lifted a hand to her forehead as Cain looked away. "What?" Josh continued. "Do you have to step through a looking glass or something?"

When DG wouldn't look up at him, Josh jerked back. "Seriously?"

DG rolled her eyes and glared at Josh. "Do I look like Alice?" she demanded, throwing up her hands. "There's no other planet and no one has to step through a mirror!"

"Then what?" Josh pushed. Part of her wanted to call a Travel Storm, then and there, just to scare the pants off of him. DG gave another look to Cain, who shrugged.

Taking a deep breath, DG nodded once and looked at Josh. "You have to walk into a tornado." Josh raised an eyebrow and laughed. He turned to Cain and realized that neither of his friends were laughing. He looked at DG again and she nodded. "My mother is Queen of the Outer Zone," she said calmly. "You get there by Travel Storm, which looks like a tornado."

"But you're from Kans-" Josh started.

DG took a deep breath and looked up to him. "I know what it sounds like, Josh. Believe me, I know. And that's why I don't tell people," she said quietly, looking away from him. Josh stared at her for a minute and he noticed just how uncomfortable she looked telling him this. Someone who was jerking his chain wouldn't be visibly upset.

They'd be laughing.

"You're serious," he half-stated and half-asked.

"Yes," Cain said quietly, stepping next to Josh.

Josh looked at Cain, wide-eyed, and then turned back to DG. "This sucks," he stated.

"Yeah," DG said quietly. "A lot."

Josh took a deep breath and nodded. "I have to finish my paper. I'll... I'll see you guys later," he said quickly and he moved to the door. DG squeezed her eyes shut, one hand moved to cover her mouth and the other reached back to the stairs as she fell back.

As soon as she was sitting, she took a few deep breaths and hugged herself as Cain moved to her side and pulled her to him. "He's a tough kid, he'll be fine," Cain assured her. "We're all still friends; he's just got to-" DG huffed and looked up to Cain. He pushed her hair off her face and smiled as he pressed a kiss to her forehead.

About thirty seconds later, the door opened and Josh moved past the mailboxes and squeezed between DG and the railing. "You've got schools there?" Josh asked. DG nodded. "I can transfer. It'll be awesome. We'll be the Three Musketeers and it will be great."

DG laughed and shook her head. "Josh," she breathed, shaking her head slightly. "Let's ignore the fact that you mother would completely kill me..." she said, giving him an honest smile. "Those credits wouldn't transfer."

"So what?" He waved and made a face. "I'll tell her it's summer school. Or a volunteer internship."

"Josh," Cain said, putting a hand on his shoulder and shaking his head.

"What? Do you need a password or somethin'? Only family can go?" He turned to Cain with a smile and pointed. "You can adopt me. Seriously. My mom would be happy to get rid of me." He turned to DG and nodded. She laughed and pulled Josh into a hug.

Cain rolled his eyes and let out a sigh before pushing himself up from the steps and waving up the stairs. "Come on, let's move this love-fest out of the hallway." He offered a hand to DG to help pull her up as Josh hauled himself up with the help of the railing.
