After walking nearly a mile, Cain and DG decided to head back and crossed the street. "This way we see everything we just saw, but from the other side," DG informed him, pulling him across the roadway.

"Can't argue with that logic," Cain said with a laugh. He told her about the discussion with Josh about the paper the night before as they moved back into the commercial area of Mission Street.

As they passed the grocery on the corner, Cain turned to DG. "So, Josh says that if I like White Christmas and I like this other one, I should watch On the Town?” he trailed off, not sure if he had the title right.

DG nodded. "That's a good one, too. Gene Kelly's in that one. And Vera-Ellen." At the look on his face, DG smiled. "Judy. The dancer." Cain nodded. "And it has Frank," she added with a sigh.

"Frank?"

"Sinatra. The Chairman of the Board," she nodded. "Ooh," she said, turning toward him and pointing. "You should see Ocean's Eleven. The original one."

"There isn't enough time in the day for me to watch all these movies," Cain stated as they reached the bakery.

"Excuses," DG grinned and pushed on the door.

Simon was coming in from the back with a stack of boxes and DG waved to him. "Hey, kids. Jeanie's upstairs."

"And we're still four hours early," DG said with a smile and moved over to the counter.

Simon set down the boxes and pulled DG into a hug. "So? No shark attacks?" Simon asked, shaking his head and glancing from DG to Cain. Cain shook his head and fought a smile.

"Just sand, sun and fun," DG said with a shrug, turning her head away to smile. She caught Cain's eye for a second and managed to put on a straight face. "Hey," she said, looking up to Simon. "Do you have Brigadoon?"

Simon frowned and looked toward the ceiling for a moment. "Might be on tape. I'll go look," he said, pulling away from DG.

"You don't have to-" she started to protest.

"Nah," he waved. "This way I can tell Jean you're here. Watch the counter," he pointed, nodding to Cain. As soon as he disappeared through the doorway that lead up to the apartment, Cain held out a hand to DG and waved her over.

He kissed her quickly and she gave him a look. "I thought he wants us together," she said quietly. "Why aren't we telling him?"

"Because as soon as we tell him," Cain said, giving her another quick kiss. "-he'll tell Jeanie. Soon as she finds out, we'll never hear the end of it. So," he kissed her again. "-for another two minutes..." DG smiled and let him kiss her one more time. After all, it would have to last them the rest of the evening, unless they were lucky.

Work the next day was going to be horrible.

DG was impressed at Cain's Tin Man-senses, because he pulled away from DG about three seconds before Jeanie Lowry cleared the corner. She gave them both a smile and DG raised her left hand toward the counter. "What do you need me to do?"

She shot a quick glance to Cain, who simply smiled at Jeanie, as his left hand found her right hand and his fingers grazed hers. He must've cracked his skull when they hit the water. Or he was hit with the football, DG decided.

Wyatt Cain was out of his ever-lovin' mind.

"Would you like to box cupcakes?" Jeanie asked, raising an eyebrow toward them. She could see their reflection in the window and was trying very hard not to show it.

"Sure," DG nodded, throwing another look to Cain and stepping away. Jeanie nodded to the boxes Simon had set down and DG picked them up as she passed the counter. She followed Jeanie to the kitchen door and ducked under her arm as Jeanie turned to Cain and waved.

"Keep an eye on the door," she ordered. Cain nodded and pivoted slightly, throwing a look at the doorway. He caught her raised eyebrow while turning back and looked at the floor.

'So much for two minutes...'

-*-

It was nearly dark when they finally headed back across the street and Cain leaned against the door of the apartment, pushing it closed with his weight. Closing his eyes, he leaned his head back and breathed a laugh. "Drop me in the fields of the Papay, because I'm done."

DG moved back from the kitchen with a glass of water and grinned. "Aww, poor baby," she mocked. Cain moved his head back to its natural position and he frowned as he watched her sit down on the couch. "And you didn't even do anything today," she laughed.

"Hey, I watched the door. And the counter." He pushed off the door and moved around the table to sit down next to her. Sighing as he sat down, Cain closed his eyes again. "Any chance you've mastered how to stop time?" DG smiled and leaned forward to place her glass on the table.

Leaning back, she pressed into Cain's side and closed her eyes as his arm went around her. "Haven't managed that one yet," she said with a sigh.

"I don't want tomorrow," Cain said quietly.

DG moved her hand across his stomach and let it settle just along the base of his ribcage. "Me either..." After a few moments, Cain pushed her forward slightly and laid down on the couch, behind her. She mimicked the move and they fell asleep within a few minutes.

About an hour later, Cain shifted slightly and nudged DG. "You cold?"

"Mmm, I have a blanket I like," she murmured.

Cain smiled and pressed his nose to the back of her head. "Your blanket likes you, too." DG breathed a smile and drifted off again.

She groaned a minute later and turned toward him. "You had to say something..." Cain laughed and shook his head. She groaned again and sat up. "Now, I'm freezing." As she rolled off the couch, he looked at the ceiling and laughed.

When she didn't come back, Cain twisted to try and look around the corner and finally rolled off the couch himself. "Hey," he said, poking his head in the doorway. DG was in bed, sheet and both blankets pulled up to her chin.

"'s warmer," she mumbled into the pillow. He breathed a smile and nodded slightly. Moving around to the side of the bed, Cain kicked off his shoes and didn't bother changing into his pajamas either. He climbed into bed with DG, wrapped his arms around her and they fell asleep again.
