I have a problem. I don't know how it happened. Please don't take this the wrong way...
You are hot.
It's your fault. You had to stand there without a shirt on. I mean, you were hot before. But DAMN, Cain.
I'm so glad you'll never see this.

Cain actually thought he could feel his face turning red. When did she see him without a shirt on?

"Oh..." he said a moment later, remembering the discussion about the woman and the card.

You punk. You promised me...
Go Cain.
I love Josh. And I'm so glad you have a friend. You need to branch out. I'll make you crazy.
You're still a punk...

Cain smirked. He really could have told her about the class.

Gambling is bad, Cain. Just say no.
And I can't believe I almost said that I would do it for free. Seriously! What is wrong with me?
You're Cain. I'm me. We're friends, nothing more.
Right? Oh crap...

Oh, yes... the bet. Cain nodded and turned the page over.

I can't believe you agreed to this... Did you agree because I practically resorted to begging?
Josh will be there - against his will, if I know Josh.
I'll have a better time, at least. Good thing I've had all those princess-lessons.
I should warn you about Ellen Cooper. You are just her kind of eye-candy.
Don't ask.
We need to get you a suit. Damn. Now, I'm imagining you in a suit.
Stop it, DG. Really. STOP!!
Kill me now, please...

Cain was beginning to sense a pattern in DG's notes to him, not to mention a reason why she wasn't telling him these things to his face. 'Don't go there,' he told himself. Of course, as he was already there, telling himself not to really did no good.

I'm not sure what concerns me more: you giving me fashion advice or you listening to Hinder.
I should really talk to Josh about what music he's giving you.
That is the most boring black dress in the history of black dresses. Even Az would rather wear a potato sack.
I wonder if Az even knows what a potato sack is?
But, I will wear the black dress because I trust you. And I have nothing else to wear.
Besides, this isn't a Zone party. We aren't trying to marry me off. What I'm wearing isn't important.
I wonder if anyone will notice me in jeans if you were standing next to me?
I highly doubt they’d even notice I was there.

I'm about to ask you and even crazier question.
It will require vacation days. And a twister.
I can't even believe I'm considering it. But it's Az.

Boring or not, she looked beautiful in the dress. And that had nothing to do with how he felt about her. It was simple fact.

CRAP
CRAP CRAP CRAP I
CRAP
CRAP
Be cool, DG.
It was all in the moment. Move on, ignore it.
It means nothing. No matter how much you want it to mean something.
Two words: Adora Cain.
Don't go into this cave.
CRAP.

There was so much going on in that one piece of paper that Cain couldn't decide where to start. First, there was another mark. He'd get back to that. He saw Adora's name and mention of a cave... but the part that had Cain's full attention was 'No matter how much you want it to mean something.'

He could only assume that this was either in regards to the awkward few seconds at the party or the awkward of waking up long after two minutes had passed.

Had something else happened? Was she awake in the middle of the night when he pulled her close?

'Crap.'

You are the darling of the Huntington. Just so you know.
And, if Ellen Cooper has her way: you will be hers.
I'm taking you out to celebrate. Not the part about Coop.
But because you helped the Huntington. Without trying.
Because you are awesome, Wyatt Cain.
And I don't deserve you.
Thank you.
-Good God, that jacket...

Cain had to admit he only glanced at the note; his focus was on the book that followed on the next page.

So I went to lunch with Sasha today. And some other girls from work you probably don't know. Well, you may have met Rebecca. I can't remember.
Anyway, Lisa and Rebecca were interns. They go home tomorrow, back to school and all.
We went to a Mexican place up on California. It wasn't bad. They like it. Anyway, somehow the conversation got to desert islands - I blame the mural of the desert island on the wall, personally. Whatever.
Courtney asked Lisa if she was stuck on a desert island and could only have one thing, what would it be? Lisa asked if she'd have a never-ending supply of batteries - Court said sure, but I wonder where she'd get them - she claimed her CD player and her CDs.
Rebecca wanted her books - it took everything I had not to be a killjoy and ask where she'd keep them when it rained.
Sasha demanded a tiny bikini and suntan lotion.
I should have been surprised... but it's Sasha.

Cain nodded. That would be Sasha.

Courtney wanted a picture of Brad Pitt and her pillow. She kept it simple... which isn't normal for Courtney. I expected her to amend it to her whole bedroom set and the picture. But without a ceiling on a desert island, no clue where she'll put the picture.
Maybe she'll tape it to her pillow so she can have her delusion.
Got to me and I said paper and pencils. 'course, I'm sure I'd get sick of drawing water. Actually, I'd get sick of being stuck there. Alone. Then I realized I wouldn't take paper. Or pencils.
I'd take you.
I didn't tell them this, of course. Because they'd want to talk about it. But it'd be you. Which is kinda mean because that's like shoving you back in the suit. Maybe it's a big island. Maybe I should say my best friends - but Glitch would go crazy. Raw might like the peace and quiet.
You'd need your hat, though. If you burn in November, you'd die on a desert island. And now I'm laughing because I can totally see you on the island, in a hat, chasing Josh. And he's totally dressed like Gilligan. I wonder if he's made you watch that movie yet... I'll have to ask.

He had seen the movie. He didn't understand half the jokes, but he enjoyed it immensely.

So... yeah. Desert island...
I just realized something, Cain.
I am a horrible person. A selfish, spoiled brat. Well, I knew this, but now I really know it.
Here I am, dragging you off to a desert island without even asking if you want to go. Again.
Why can't I ever think of anyone but me? Obviously, I should be in the movies, because I must have everyone snowed. But not you. You see right through it. Why don't you ever call me on it?
And I can't talk to you about the most important thing. And it kills me.

As Cain read the next lines, he felt his heart drop to his stomach.

There's this guy... I like him. Actually, I'm pretty sure I love him. But his heart went to someone else long before I ever met him. And he still loves her - which is the most romantic thing I think I've ever witnessed.
And I hate that I'm jealous of a woman I never met.
I refuse to be that girl. The one who tries to push her way in. The one who needs rescuing. I don't even know what I'm saying. Well, I do. Just not in the right words. Are there right words? I can only think of three.
I love you.
