Title: Fate

Rating: R
Characters: Luke/Reid
Disclaimer: As the World Turns and it's characters are not mine, no matter how much I enjoy playing with them. :)
Summary: Luke is in car accident on the way home from a business trip. Reid saves him in more ways than one.
Author's Notes: So, this was sort of inspired by
sripley's "It's the What If Factor." I was re-reading it, reveling in her ability to change up the story so awesomely and still keep it true to the characters, and thought to myself, I can do that. So this is me trying another take on the the Luke/Reid relationship with a different beginning, and we'll see where we end up. Story starts in January 2010. If it isn't said enough, the medical stuff I am making up as I go.
You guys....I just love you guys. You guys. *sob* Just the epilogue to go! I'm going to try and have it done tomorrow, but I'm not sure how long I want it to be or what all I want to include.

32 “Just order the tests and call me when they results are in. Think you can handle two things at once?” Reid snapped into the phone, pacing around a small stretch of floor. “Congratulations.” He tossed his phone down on the bed with a sigh. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s okay.” Luke smiled. “Comes with the territory.” Reid walked back to the bed, sitting down and shifting so that he was right next to Luke. Luke was still sitting the same way, his knees drawn up and his arms resting across his kneecaps. “You could probably have been a little nicer to your intern.”
“She’s an idiot with lousy timing.”
“Lousy timing, hmm?” Luke repeated, grinning mischievously. “Why would you say that?” He turned onto his side, propping himself up on his elbow.
“Luke.” Reid said, glaring at him. He moved so that he was mirroring Luke’s pose, and then leaned over and kissed him quickly. “I asked you a question.” Luke smiled, which made Reid’s heart beat just a little faster.
“You did.” Luke answered, reaching out a hand and pressing his palm against Reid’s cheek. “And I was about to answer it when your phone rang.”
“Luke.” Reid was frustrated. Waiting for this answer was agony, and Luke knew it. “Just answer me.”
“I don’t say things I don’t mean, Reid.” Luke whispered, trailing his fingertips across Reid’s jaw before sliding his hand back and tangling his fingers in Reid’s hair. “Yes.”
“Yes, what?” Reid asked.
“I’m answering your question.” Luke said, brushing his lips across Reid’s lightly, so light Reid wasn’t sure they actually touched. “I thought you were a brilliant neurosurgeon. Having trouble keeping up?” He teased, sliding a hand up Reid’s thigh and making the older man swallow roughly.
“Luke.” This time it was a groan.
“Reid.” Luke stared into his eyes. “I love you.” He’d barely gotten the words out, and then Reid was kissing him. He pushed Luke onto his back, settling between his legs. Luke pulled back from Reid after a second. “What about Katie?”
“The door’s locked.” Reid murmured in Luke’s ear, blowing lightly and making Luke shiver. “We’ll have to be quiet.” Luke bit his lip, inhaling sharply at Reid’s words and the wave of desire that rolled through him.
“You? Be quiet?” Luke laughed, his hand drifting under Reid’s shirt, slowly moving it up.
“What are you trying to say, Brat?”
“You’re addicted to the sound of your own voice, Reid.” Luke pulled Reid’s shirt off, tossing it across the room. Reid arched his eyebrow in response.
“Is that a challenge?” Reid asked, kissing Luke again. Luke ran his hands over the hard planes of Reid’s chest, relishing in the feel of Reid’s skin against his fingers.
“Just a fact.” Luke mumbled against his lips. Reid bit his lip in reply, enjoying it when Luke jerked against him.
“You like it.” Reid whispered, trailing kisses along Luke’s collarbone. Luke moved, rolling them over, so that he was straddling Reid instead. Luke grinned at Reid’s look of surprise before kissing him soundly, his hands going to work on Reid’s belt.
“Let’s see how quiet you can be.”
*
“You think Katie heard that?” Luke asked, lying on top of Reid. He was tracing his fingers along Reid’s chest.
“I was as quiet as a church mouse.” Luke glanced up at Reid, who was lying back with his eyes closed.
“Yeah, and repeating ‘Oh God, Oh God’ was just your way of praying.” Luke laughed. Reid smiled, and Luke could see a little bit of a blush on his face. “Is the great Dr. Oliver actually blushing?”
“Absolutely not.” Reid schooled his expression. Their eyes locked and then they were both laughing. Luke sighed. Reid reached out and ran a hand over Luke’s head. His hair had grown considerably, almost like it had never been shaved off. “You’re thinking about your mom, aren’t you?”
“Is it weird if I say yes?”
“Yes.”
“Shut up.” Luke nudged him.
“You tried, Luke.” Reid said, making the younger man look up at him again. “Most amnesia patients won’t even go home with their families because they can’t take the pressure.”
“Really?” Reid nodded.
“Your mother is the only one to blame for her behavior.”
“Don’t forget my grandmother.”
“Who could forget Lucinda?” Reid asked, earning a glare from Luke. “Their hearts were in the right place.”
“I know.”
They fell silent for a moment.
“Luke?” Reid said quietly.
“Hmmm?” Luke replied.
“You’ve turned my whole world upside, you know that?”
“Reid?” Luke said his name, startled by the turn in the conversation.
“You just…came into my life and changed everything, and I don’t even know how it happened.”
“Is that bad?”
“No, it’s just…this isn’t me. I’m not the guy who cuddles in bed. I don’t do hearts and flowers, Luke.” Reid took Luke’s hand in his, holding it tight. “God help me, you make me want to.”
“Reid, you’re babbling.”
“I know.” He replied, looking nervous. “Is it freaking you out?”
“A little.” Luke answered, smiling at him. “What are you trying to say?”
“I love you, Luke.” Luke’s eye widened.
“What?”
“You heard me.” Luke leaned up and kissed him roughly, tangling his fingers in Reid’s hair. Reid hissed in appreciation. He pulled Luke upwards so they were eye to eye. “I love you.”
“I love you.” Luke whispered back, searching Reid’s gaze. Reid groaned at the look in Luke’s eyes, and they both jumped when Katie banged twice on Reid’s bedroom door. They both grinned.
“Remind me to buy Katie some earplugs.” Reid said, and then pinned Luke to mattress.
