Title: Fate
Author: slayerkitty
Genre: Romance, Angst, AU
Rating: Shades of R, to be safe(this chapter is pretty much G)
Characters: Luke/Reid
Disclaimer: As the World Turns and it's characters are not mine, no matter how much I enjoy playing with them. :)
Summary: Luke is in car accident on the way home from a business trip. Reid saves him in more ways than one.

Author's Notes: So, this was sort of inspired by sripley's "It's the What If Factor." I was re-reading it, reveling in her ability to change up the story so awesomely and still keep it true to the characters, and thought to myself, I can do that. So this is me trying another take on the the Luke/Reid relationship with a different beginning, and we'll see where we end up. Story starts in January 2010. If it isn't said enough, the medical stuff I am making up as I go.

You guys....I just love you guys. Thank you so much for all of your comments. I'm probably taking liberties with the layout of Lily's house, I couldn't remember exactly where everything was supposed to be.

Reid wasn’t sure how they’d ended up here.

He wasn’t sure what he’d been expecting, but this hadn’t been it.  Luke had barely opened the door before pulling him inside and kissing him senseless.

It was dark in the living room, making it clear that no one else was home.  Luke had whispered, between kisses, how much he’d missed him and Reid was glad he wasn’t required to say anything, because he wasn’t sure he could have.  His hands seemed to have a mind of their own, and before he knew it, he was pulling Luke down onto the couch.

Lips touched lips, tongues dueled in mouths.  Fingers touched every available bit of skin, trying to memorize every detail.  Luke pushed him back against the arm of the couch, and Reid pulled him up so that Luke was straddling his lap.  They both groaned when Luke’s pelvis rubbed against his.  Luke pulled back with a panting gasp and Reid wished he could see the expression on his face.

“Wait.”  Reid whispered.  “Can we…”

“Got the all clear from my doctor today.”  Reid could hear the smile in his voice.  “I can drive too, in case you were curious.”

“You seem to be doing a pretty good job of both at the moment.”

Then Luke was pulling his shirt over his head, before attacking the buttons on Reid’s shirt.  Reid took advantage of Luke’s difficulty with the buttons, running his fingers lightly up and down Luke’s chest.  Luke finally managed the last button, set about his own exploring.  Their lips found each other again, and Reid was just reaching for Luke’s belt when it happened.

The living room lights flipped on, blinding him, and he heard someone shriek.

“Oh my God!”

Luke was off of him in a flash, and Reid’s vision came back to register Lily, Holden and Luke’s younger brother and sisters standing in the door.  Luke was frantically slipping his shirt back on, and Reid sat up slowly.

Lily looked horrified, and she had bent down to cover the eyes of the two youngest.  Holden’s expression was unreadable, but the oldest girl had a smirk on her face.  Reid wasn’t sure why, but that smirk made him want to laugh.  He fought the urge, figuring that wouldn’t go over well with anyone in the room but her.

Reid began buttoning his shirt back up, the panic and embarrassment rolling off Luke in waves.

“Mom, I…”  His voice was shaky. “I wasn’t expecting you home so soon.”

“Clearly.”  She replied.  “Faith, please take Natalie and Ethan upstairs.  The older girl muttered something under her breath and shot her mother a death glare.

Reid made a mental note never to piss that girl off.

“You know,” Faith said to Luke, pausing in the doorway to the hall.  Reid could already hear the clatter of the other kids running up the stairs.  “If you weren’t my brother, that would have been totally hot.”

“Faith!”  Lily exclaimed, upset.  Luke looked mortified, but Reid couldn’t help but smile.

“Fine, I’m going.”  She snapped, grinning at them again.  The room was silent until she was gone.

Reid finished the last button on his shirt, and the silence became awkward.

“Mom…”  Luke began.

“Really, Luke?”  She asked.  Her voice rang out shrilly, and Reid winced.  “In the living room?”

Reid fought the urge to laugh again.

“It wasn’t planned.”  Luke replied, crossing his arms over his chest.

“That doesn’t change what your brother and sisters saw.”  She frowned. “Or what you were doing with Dr. Oliver.”

Reid stood up.

“I should…go.”  He finally said, gesturing to the door.

“Yes, I think you should.” Lily ordered, glaring at him.

“Mom, it’s not his fault.”  Luke defended Reid.  “I should have known better.”

“Well, that goes without saying.”  Lily looked at Reid. “What the hell do you think you’re doing with my son?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”  Reid asked, annoyed at her implication.

“Mom!”  Luke exclaimed.  “Stop it.”  He paused.

“He’s your doctor, Luke.  He took advantage of your mental state.” Lily practically screeched.

“I did not.”  Reid was offended, and upset that Luke was right.  Again.

“I pursued him, Mom.”  Luke defended Reid.  “Are you really that upset about this?”  He asked her.

“Yes!”  Luke looked at Holden.

“Dad, please.  Help me out here.”

“Holden, don’t you dare say this is okay.”  Lily ordered.  Holden held his arms up in mock surrender.

“He’s old enough to make his own decisions, Lily.”  It was almost enough to make Reid like Luke’s dad.  At least this one was less likely to pull a gun on him.

“Would you be this upset if it had been me and Noah?’  Luke asked, and Reid stared at him, startled.

“Yes.”  Lily took too long to answer.

Holden stepped in then.

“Why don’t you and I go get a beer out of the fridge and let these two talk?”  He suggested, looking at Reid.  Reid glanced at Luke’s face, saw the plea for him to stay and nodded.

Holden walked to the fridge and grabbed two beers out, neither of them talking.  He handed one to Reid, and the two men sat down at the table.  Reid spoke after a moment.

“Is this the part where you ask me what my intentions are?” Reid asked.  He can’t believe this has happened, and that he’s stuck making small talk with ‘Good Dad’.

Holden smiled, and shook his head.

“Not unless you want me to.”

“I’m good.”  Reid replied, and Holden laughed a little.

“I never really got to thank you, for everything you’ve done for my son.”  Holden said, taking a sip of his beer.  He gave Reid a look, and Reid shifted under his gaze.  “Luke’s just been through a lot for someone his age.  Lily tends to over-react.”

“I’m getting that.”  Reid replied, uncomfortably. He didn’t know what else to say, but it didn’t matter.  They were interrupted by raised voices from the living room.

“What reason could there possibly be to not give him a chance?”  Luke shouted.  Lily’s reply was muffled, and Reid suddenly found the label of his beer incredibly interesting.

He could feel Holden’s gaze on him, as he took a drink.  The sudden clatter of feet outside the kitchen broke the silence and then kids were entering the kitchen

“Natalie and Ethan wanted some chocolate milk.”  Faith said, grabbing some cups and the milk carton from the fridge.

“And you wanted to come downstairs and snoop.” Holden called her out, picking up Ethan and sitting him on his lap.  She shrugged, and squirted chocolate sauce into the cups now filled with milk.

“It’s not everyday you come home and find your brother making out with some guy on the couch.”  She replied, stirring the milk to mix the chocolate in.  ““Noah would have never had the guts to do that.”  That earned her a glare from her father.  Reid nearly choked on his beer.

He liked this girl.

The younger girl sitting next to Reid at the table looked up at him.

“Does this mean you’re Luke’s boyfriend?”  She asked.

“Something like that.”  Reid muttered, wondering how soon Lily would be done chewing out her son, so he could leave.

“Well, you either are or you aren’t.”  Faith snarked.  “Which is it?”

“That’s enough, Faith.”  Holden scolded, taking the chocolate milk from her and handing it to the kids.  “I’m sorry, Dr. Oliver.”   He sat Ethan back on his feet.  “Why don’t you guys take your drinks upstairs?”  He suggested firmly, indicating it wasn’t up for discussion.

Ethan chose that moment to spill his milk down his shirt, and Holden sighed.

“I’ll be right back.”  Reid nodded as Holden corralled Ethan and Natalie and ushered them back upstairs.  He was left in the kitchen with Faith.   Reid stared up at her.

“I love Noah, you know.  He and Luke were good together.”  Faith began, sitting down across from him, in the seat Holden had just vacated.  She picked up her dad’s abandoned beer and lifted it up to take a sip.  Reid deftly grabbed it from her, setting it on his side of the table.  She glared, but kept talking.  “But anyone who can get Luke to make out on a couch where anyone can see, and piss off my mom as much as you did gets major points in my book.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Reid managed.

“Good.”

With that, she practically flounced out of the kitchen, leaving Reid staring after her in shock.  Luke walked in the kitchen a second later.

“I have to get out of here.”  He nearly snarled.

“Thank God.”  Reid was out of his chair, and the two of them were out the back door before anyone could stop them.  As they got into Reid’s car, they could hear Lily calling for Luke to come back.

Reid looked to see what Luke wanted to do.

“Let’s go.”  Luke said, and got in.

He couldn’t drive away fast enough.
