Characters: Luke/Reid
Disclaimer: As the World Turns and it's characters are not mine, no matter how much I enjoy playing with them. :)
Summary: Luke is in car accident on the way home from a business trip. Reid saves him in more ways than one.
Author's Notes: So, this was sort of inspired by sripley's "It's the What If Factor." I was re-reading it, reveling in her ability to change up the story so awesomely and still keep it true to the characters, and thought to myself, I can do that. So this is me trying another take on the the Luke/Reid relationship with a different beginning, and we'll see where we end up. Story starts in January 2010. If it isn't said enough, the medical stuff I am making up as I go.
You guys....I just love you guys. Thank you so much for all of your comments. Ugh, this did not go quite like I wanted. Please don't hesitate to tell me if it's terrible.

community.livejournal.com/lure_atwt/555500.html “What the hell?” Reid stuttered, coming to a stop in Luke's room. He automatically raised his hand s in the air. Luke couldn't help the terror washing over him. He'd seen pictures of Damien Grimaldi and knew the man standing next to his bed, holding a gun on his doctor, was his biological father.
He had a pretty good idea now why his parents didn't want to say anything about his father.
“Who is this?” Damien demanded, looking at Luke but keeping the gun pointed at Reid.
“My doctor.” Luke replied, trying to keep the fear out of his voice. “Dr. Oliver.”
“Dr. Oliver?” Damien repeated. “You're the one who saved my son's life.”
“I am.” Reid replied. “I don't have to guess who you are.”
“I don't know how I can repay your for saving Luciano.” Luke saw Reid swallow and clearly debate about what he was going to say next.
“For starters, you could stop pointing your gun at me.” Damien turned his head to the side.
“That's not going to happen, doctor.” Damien said. “I can't have you letting people know I'm here.”
“What is going on?” Luke interrupted. “Why are you sneaking around and why do you have a gun?”
“I can't get into that right now, Luciano.” Damien sighed, and reached out a hand towards Luke. Luke moved out of his reach.
“Why do you keep calling me that?”
“What?” Damien looked confused. “My son? That's who you are.”
“I figured that out already.” Luke replied. “No, you keep calling me Luciano.”
“That's your name.” Damien answered. “You really don't remember anything, do you?”
“No, I'm sorry.”
“I had hoped...” Damien trailed off. “It doesn't matter. I just wanted to see you one last time.”
“One last time?” Luke repeated.
“I'm leaving the country tonight, and I'm not coming back.”
“You're in trouble.” Luke said, and Reid snorted. Both men turned to look at him, though Damien's gun had never wavered.
“Sorry, I just figured since he's holding me at gunpoint, the fact that he was in trouble was fairly obvious.”
“Reid.” Luke said, rolling his eyes. “This really isn't the time.”
“Oh, I don't know, Luke.” Reid stared hard at Damien. “What else does he have to lose?”
“Are you trying to make him shoot you?” Luke asked. One of his machines started beeping, and Reid could see that Luke's face was suddenly paler than usual.
“Luke?” He asked dropping his arms and moving towards the bed.
“Stop.” Damien said, cocking the gun. Reid halted, torn between checking Luke and really not wanting to get shot.
“Your son is recovering from major brain surgery, and severe emotional trauma.” Reid snapped at Damien. “He's been prone to panic attacks and his last one nearly killed him.” Damien waved him forward with the gun. Reid moved quickly to Luke's bedside, checking the machine and seeing his blood pressure was up.
“How are you feeling, Luke?” Reid took out his penlight and held one of Luke's eyes open, shining the light inside.
“Just a little dizzy.”
“Your blood pressure is a little high.”
“I figured.” He managed. “Like last time.”
“Not if I can help it.” Reid turned and headed for the door. Damien stepped in front of him, the gun just inches from his chest.
“Where do you think you're going?”
“To get your son some medicine.”
“I don't think so.”
“Why don't you just go?” Reid snapped. “You came to say good-bye and you've done that. Now leave, before you end up killing him.”
“Don't you presume to know anything about me, Dr. Oliver.” Damien replied. “I love my son.”
“You have a fantastic way of showing it.”
“Reid, please.” Luke murmured. Reid glanced back at Luke, who face looked pinched. He had rolled onto his side.
“Please.” Reid whispered. “Please, let me help him.” Damien looked at Luke. “There's a medicine cart in the hall.”
Damien nodded, his hand on the door knob.
“Nothing funny, Dr. Oliver.” He ordered, opening the door wide enough for Reid to slip out.
“No, there's nothing funny about this.” Reid muttered as he walked briskly down the hall to the cart. He hurriedly unlocked it, searching through the meds to find the ones he needed. Grabbing two bottles, and a couple of empty syringes, he made his way back down to Luke's room.
He edged back into the room, immediately looking to see where Damien was.
“I suppose it was too much to ask for you to leave.”
“I'm not leaving until I speak with my son.”
“No one is stopping you from talking.” Reid went over to Luke, setting the drugs down on the bedside table. He picked up one of the syringes and stuck it in a bottle. He measured out the dose, and then inserted it into Luke's IV.
“I want him to remember what I say.” Reid breathed a sigh of relief as Luke's breathing slowed and his color slowly returned to normal.
“If you're going to talk, do it now.” Reid ordered Damien. “Night rounds start soon, and I don't want anyone else coming in here.” Damien glared, but took his son's hand.
“Luciano, listen to me.” Luke looked up into his father's face. “No matter what you hear, no matter what you think of me after tonight...just know that I love you.” Damien leaned down as kissed Luke's forehead. “Everything I did, I did so we could be a family.”
While Damien was talking to Luke, Reid slowly edged his hand over to Luke's bedside table and grabbed the second bottle in his hand. He slipped it into his pocket, where one of the syringes was, and with one hand managed to jab the needle into the bottle. He pulled back the stopper and then then tugged the syringe loose from the bottle. With one motion, he jerked his hand out of his pocket, and tried to stick it into Damien's arm. Damien saw what he was doing just before he made contact, and Reid swore as the older man grabbed his arm. Twisting it backwards, he shoved Reid hard. Reid fell against the chair and it tipped, dumping him onto the floor with a thud. Luke grabbed the syringe that Reid dropped as he fell, and leaned up and stabbed his father with it. Damien jerked and the gun fired as he dropped to the floor. Luke looked down at his father on the ground, and then scrambled out of bed on shaky legs to Reid.
“Reid?” He asked, kneeling down next to him. He put his hand on Reid's arm. “Reid, wake up.” It took a second, but Reid coughed and rolled over with a groan. “Reid, thank God.”
“Luke?” Reid said, coughing again. “Did it work?”
“Yeah.” Luke answered. “He's out.”
“Good.” Reid hissed. “Can you get someone in here?”
“Why, what's wrong?” Luke looked at him, worried.
“I think I got shot.”
