Crime lab, New York

“This is some kind of a sick joke….” Stella groaned when she returned to the lab. “If I didn’t know this was real, I would think some tabloid staged everything to make us look stupid.”

“Don’t worry, there’s creepy cases all the time.” Danny grinned from ear to ear. “Enjoy the bright winter day, the singing of birds…. Forget that, think about the sound of cars jostling cheerfully on the street so that you can’t get to the other side.”

“Did the department shrink finally prescribe you some happy pills?”
“Something better. Lindsay had to attend some relatives funeral back home and she too the baby with her. I`ve had two uninterrupted nights of sleep. Few faceless corpses can’t rain on my parade right now.”

“Even if they were dressed up like Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and that creepy doll from the horror movie?”
“Chucky. And no.”
“Not even when they were all carrying large quantities of drugs?”
“You’re really trying to bring me down…..”
“Is it working?”

“Nope. And now that I’m on tracks, I’m gonna help you get in shape too.”
“I already go to Pilates regularly.”
“Not that kinda shape. I mean getting some.”
“Since when are you a matchmaker?”
“I watched you when you were trying to push Don and what’s-his-name closer and it worked. I know all about your technique.”

“I just encouraged him to go to Vegas with him, they got together without any outside help.”
“I’m not talking about that I’ll-follow-you-out of the state-after-one-week-thing, I`m talking bout getting you back in the game. This time without firearms.”
“Messer….”

“Stella?” Danny put on his innocent face, but it didn’t seem to work.
“What are planning?”
“We got some new information while you were out. The last time our three vics were seen alive, they were with a fourth man.”
“Great, do we have a name?”
“Yeah, but there’s a hitch. The guy went missing around the same time the first body was dumped. FBI`s missing persons unit is working on it.”

“So he could have killed the other three and escaped.”
“And leave the cash and the drugs with the vics? They checked his apartment: He went there with the other three the day before the first body dump and according to their investigators there was signs of a struggle.”
“Four guys have a fight and then we find three of them dead in three consecutive days. Are we co-operating on this?”

“We’re handling the investigation on the three stiffs, the feds will focus on the missing one.”
“At least they didn’t start a fight this time.” She sighed. “Did Sid finish the autopsy yet?”

“No, so we got some time to go over my plan.”
“What plan?”
“I told you: My plan to get you back in the game. I found you a good practising tool.”
Danny pointed across the hallway. A man was standing in Mac’s office with his back turned to them. “He’s perfect. Here today, gone tomorrow.”

“If I want a one-night-stand I can find one all on my own.”
“Come on, take a look.”
“Okay.” Stella measured the man with her eyes from head to toe.
“Look closely.” Danny coached. “Enough height, a good head of hair, ears are little big, but the butt is nice and snappy.”
“Danny….”
“What?”
“Are you turning to the male side too?”
“Why do you ask me that?”
“Straight guys don’t talk about other men’s butts like that.”

“I witnessed my best buddy live some gay version of Here to Eternity without the beach scene and then Hawkes and Adam started to roam around each other like two high school kids. I’ve overcome my inhibitions.”
“Like you had much to begin with….”
“Anyway, right now I’m so happy I want everyone else to be happy too.”
“All that because you got to sleep two whole nights?”
“You never know how much it means till you don’t have it. He turned around.”

“Who?”
“The fed.” Danny grabbed her by the shoulder and turned her around to look at the man in Mac’s office. “Let’s start the acclimation process: Look at the face, special focus on the eyes and mouth, let your gaze fall slowly below his belt. Good… Okay, you can stop staring at his bulge.....Stella? Stella, you’re creeping me out…..”

“Sorry, it was just so hypnotic.” She shrugged. “Too pretty. Pretty ones are either homicidal maniacs or gay.”
“Stella, you don’t need to drag him to the altar, just drag him to the supply closet.”
“I don’t know his name, and we probably won`t see him after this case is wrapped-”
“Exactly! He’s perfect!”

“Excuse me.”
They turned to look at the man carrying case files.

“I’m looking for detective Taylor.”
“He’s in his office, right there.” Stella pointed.
“Sorry, I didn’t notice.”
“The glass walls confuse everyone at first. You’re a fed, aren’t you?”
“How did you know?” The man smiled. “The suit?”
“The files.”

He looked down at the case files. FBI was printed on the cover in large block letters.
“This is the second time during this conversation I feel really stupid.”
“Happens to everyone. Are you from the missing persons unit?”
“Guilty, but don’t worry. We’ll just focus on our guy and you can keep your three.”

“Thanks. Detective Bonasera.”
“Special Agent Fitzgerald. And that one over there….” He nodded to the direction of the man in the office. “Is Special Agent Taylor.”
“Are going to work from here or-”
“No, we’ll go through everything we have so far and see where we go from there.”
Agent Fitzgerald crossed the hallway and knocked on the door. After getting a brief "come in" he gave Stella and Danny a quick nod and walked in.

“We got a name.” Danny grinned. “Taylor. Funny, he didn’t look like a taylor….”
“Danny.”
“Can you imagine being called Stella Taylor? You’d have to change your first name to match-”

“We’re getting together at the conference room in ten minutes.” Mac announced and stepped into the hallway. He marched out of sight in a brisk pace heading to the direction of the DNA lab.

“Let’s get to work.” Stella suggested. “Or I’ll have to call Lindsay and inform her that her hubby has suddenly gone guy-crazy.”
“I`m not! But seriously, look at that.” He sent a look at the man in Mac’s office. He was currently leaning over the desk, reading the case files. He sighed and turned to look at Stella. “Even I would turn to look at that ass.”

“Danny, there’s a fine line between cheerful and disturbing. If two good nights get you like that, I’m not sure I want to see you tomorrow.” Stella glanced over his shoulder and started giggling uncontrollably. “And I don’t think I have much of a chance with him anyway.”

“Why not?”
She nodded to the direction of the office. Agent Fitzgerald had parked himself right next to Taylor to read over his shoulder. His hand was resting on the agent’s back and slowly sliding down to give the previously mentioned rear end a little grope.

“Newcomers always forget the glass walls.” Stella grinned. “Back to work, Messer.”
