Crime lab, Las Vegas

“Why do people have to bleed so much….?” Greg groaned. “Can’t we just flip a coin or something?”

“Nope.” Nick handed him a coffee mug. “And we all got called in.”
“But we didn’t all work last night. I got two hours of sleep before we had to come back.” He took a long sip from the mug. “This was our day off! Wild monkey-sex, chocolate sauce and nudie romps in my balcony.”
“We can do it another day. Grissom said we’ll get compensated for today.”
“Well, it has to be a new day off. Somebody said people have done so much overtime that they can’t pay for it till next year. They try to switch them to vacation days.”

“Maybe we could take a vacation together.” Nick suggested. “Now that the cat`s out of the bag, we could try to get the same days off.”
“Speaking of travelling, how was Warrick?”
“How do you know I talked with him?”
“You said he called you, last time you came here to ask about your samples.”
“Right, sorry. My minds bubbling over.”
“Obviously. So is he enjoying his trip?”
“I guess. I don’t know, I…. I got this feeling he’s hiding something.”
“Everyone hides something.”
“It’s just a hunch…. And then there was that guy who answered his phone few days ago.”

“What guy?”
“Didn’t I tell you? I tried to get a hold of Rick, and this guy answered his phone. He gave me some weird explanation about why he couldn’t come to the phone and then he hung up.”
“And Warrick didn’t tell you anything about it?”
“Not a word.”
“You think he has a problem with this?”
“With our thing? I don`t think so, that was something else.”

“I could make a guess, but you wouldn’t believe me.” Greg commented and emptied his mug. “I`ll get back to work.”

“Don’t even try, if you know something I want to hear it.”
“Maybe the whole coming out topic was little bit close to home.”
“What do you mean?”
“Remember when you two were interviewing that dancer who was in some casino show?”
“You mean….?”
“The one with the glittery leotard.”
“How could I forget….”
“You really didn’t notice it?”
“Notice what?”
“How Warrick kept eyeing that guys ass.”
“He had a glittery skull painted on it!”
“So you looked at it too.”
“Sorry, babe. I looked just once-”
“I know, but Warrick`s stare was something else. I thought he was gonna attack the poor guy then and there.”
“Are you serious?”
“I just mean that…” Greg paused to consider his words.  “I’m not saying he has ever done anything about it, but the interest is definitely there. And you said some weird guy answered his phone…..”
“You think he hooked up with someone in New York.”

“That’s what it sounds like. But drawing conclusion is your stuff, I just handle blood and semen.”
“Can we do something about that second one after you’re done with the first one?”

“I’ll let you know when I’m done.” Greg smirked. “Maybe we can salvage the original plan for the day.

Saturday 19:14
Fourth day of the Seminar
-----
Warrick`s hotel room, New York

Warrick picked up his phone for the fourth time. His fingers hovered over the speed dials, but finally he closed it again. If Don left, that wasn’t his problem to fix. He replayed the lobby incident over and over again.

On the TV-screen a man with an ill-fitting hairpiece kept explaining the earthquake in Guatemala. Warrick snapped from channel to channel, but his mind seemed reject all other thoughts. He closed the TV and picked up the seminar pamphlet. In the second page among the other contact information was the number for the New York crime lab.

He dialled the number and waited.
“New York Crime lab, Sandy speaking. How can I help you?” A perky voice chirped with the enthusiasm of Easter Bunny on speed.
“Is detective Bonasera still there?”
“I think she walked past me a while ago, wait a sec, I’ll direct your call to her cell phone.”
“Thanks.”
“How was it?”
“You haven’t directed me yet.”
“No, the service. This is my first day.”
“Well….. Are you gonna cut me if I say something negative?”
“In a second.”
“In that case you were terrific. You have a promising future in telemarketing.”
“Good enough.”

The annoying voice disappeared and a short series of clicks followed.

“Bonasera.”
“Hey, this Warrick Brown. You showed off your Jell-O when I was at the lab today.”
“I remember.” Stella giggled. “You want an encore?”
“I’ll take a rain check. I need a favour.”
“What kind?”
“Don’s address.”
“I thought you said you’ve been to his place.”
“I’ve been there but I can’t find the place myself, I need the address for the cabdriver.”
“Don said you two were planning to out for dinner, when did you misplace him?”
“About two hours ago. We had a disagreement and he took off.”
“What did you say?”
“Nothing.”
“Well, what did he say?”
“Nothing.”
“So you said nothing and then he said nothing and that nothing made him dump you.”
“He didn’t dump me. Dumping means we’re together, so that doesn’t really fit the situation.”
“Well then you have no reason to go to his place. Have a nice evening-”
“Okay, okay. There’s something going on. No idea what, but something.” Warrick paused. “Are you gonna give me the address now?”
“Yeah, since you were such a good boy. You got a pen?”
“Shoot.”

Stella rattled the address and Warrick hung up. She pocketed her phone and turned to Danny who was currently up to his neck in phone records.
“Remember what I said about the Greek in me?”
“You mean the Matchmaker part?”
“Yeah. I haven’t lost my touch.”
“Was that Don on the phone?”
“You were right here next to me. Didn’t you hear?”
“My mom always said it’s impolite to listen to other peoples conversations. She started saying that after I heard her flirting with the landlord. Next time she caught me eavesdropping, she took me to the kitchen and punished me.”
“Belt?”
“Mustard.”
“Mustard?”
“She put it onto my school lunch.”
“Why?”
“Because I hated it.”
“Of course…. What were we talking about?”
“Before the my school lunch? Mmmm…. Don and that tourist.”
“Yeah, the tourist just called me. They had a fight.”
“They had a fight and he called you?”
“He wanted to know Don’s address.”
“So they’re trying to fix it.”
“Yeah. You should have heard it. Those two are so cute. Like two teenage boys trying to look like grown men.”
