NY Crime Lab, break room

“Okay, what’s the story?” Danny looked like a bloodhound demanding fresh meat. “And don’t say nothing. You don’t need to come to work for a week, and yet you’re here. Spill, man.”

“I’m just playing a tourist guide.” Don poured himself a cup of coffee. “The guy wanted to see what the lab was like.”
“He’s away from the Vegas lab, and he wants to spend his week away seeing lab facilities?”
“Messer.”
“Don’t try that tone with me. Lindsay does that sometimes and she makes it a lot scarier.”
“I bet….”
“And don’t talk about her like that.”
“You said it, not me.”
“I’m allowed to. I’ve planted my seed, it gives me some prerogatives.”
“You handle the weeding too?”
“Did you just make a crack at my girl’s gardening?”
“No, I’m just saying that even parents can have a conversation without adding babies into it.”
“We have conversations!”
“About murders, rape cases, mutilated bodies-”
“You made your point, now shut up.” Danny was about to march out when realisation dawned on him. “Wait a minute! You’re trying to distract me!”

“Nope, you did that all by yourself.”
“Come on, Flacky, let’s hear it.”
“Nothing to hear.”
“They’ve shoved you to handle those seminars before, but I haven’t seen you doing personal tourist tours. At least outside of your bedroom.”
“That happened once.”
“But the fight was epic.”
“Not my fault.” Don took a sip from his mug. “How was I supposed to know she was married?”
“Wedding ring didn`t give you a clue?”
“It did, but I didn’t think it was that serious.”
“Don….”
“Fine, she took it off.”
“And?”
“And I had no idea till the husband started screaming in the middle of the hotel lobby. Happy now?”
“Yeah. So what about this one?”
“Closet case. Comes to seminars to fool around with guys.”
“Sounds pretty pathetic.”
“Says the guy who can’t come and have a beer with his buddies because Lindsay has her baby yoga and she needs you to carry her bag.”
“She’s not that bad.”
“She is, but maybe bad is your type.”

“That would explain a lot of things.”
“Yep.” Don emptied his mug and peeked into the hallway.
“What are you looking at?”

“Warrick`s still with Stella. I got time for another cup.”
“What’s he doing with Stella?”
“She was doing some weird tests about bullet penetration from a specific angle, and he wanted to watch. I have no idea why you people seem so interested in Jell-O.”
“It’s not Jell-O, it’s gelatin.”
“Call it what you want, but you guys love playing with it.”
“And what sort playing are you doing with the tourist?”
“The sweaty kind.”
“I knew it.” Danny looked surprisingly cheerful. “It’s been a while.”
“Don’t start.”
“Come on, buddy. This is me, your buddy. Tell me the whole thing minus the dirty details.”
“Nothing to tell.” Don shrugged. “He’s here till the seminar ends, and then he’ll go back to Vegas. We’re having some fun, that’s all.”
“Right…. Remember what happens every time we have our poker night?”

“Lindsay calls you because the kid`s screaming and she can’t find her own head.”
“Besides that.” Danny paused. “You got a great poker face, but the reality shows up right there.” He waved his finger in front of Don’s blue eyes. “I know the difference between the “Life’s Good” look and “I’m getting Laid” look.”

“I’m not getting into some long-distance thing. Especially when the guy has to fly out of his home state to get some man-action.”
“He’ll get over it.”
“He freaked out when his friend called from Vegas to tell him he was coming out.” Don thought about it before he continued. “Well, actually two of his friends, but the other one was more like a friend of a friend, but the other friend is now the boyfriend of the friend.”
“Exactly how many guys are you talking about?”
“Two, I just said it.”
“Sorry, I got confused…. But that guy with Stella is the one who freaked out and not the friend of a boyfriend who wasn’t really a friend anyway, right?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Forget it.”
“With pleasure.”

“Anyway, I didn’t mean you have to pack your bags and follow that dude to Vegas. Honestly, I don’t think you’d last long in the desert-”
“Messer.”
“I just mean you should you try to find a little bit of something. You know, longer than couple nights.”
“Messer.”
“You’re gonna slap me on the head, aren’t you?”
“Tempting, but no. And just because you found your new calling as a doormat, don’t think you can afford to give relationship advices to others.”
“Hey, I’m not a doormat!”
“Keep telling yourself that.”
“I’m not.”

“You’re not what?” Stella walked in with Warrick in tow. “And tell me there’s more coffee.”
“No.” Danny eyed the empty pot. “But it was Don’s fault. He came here on his day off to drink all our coffee.”
“Really mature, Danny.” She commented and started to fill the coffeemaker for another load.

“Did you kids have fun with your Jell-O?” Don asked with a wide grin.

“It’s gelatin.” Three CSIs corrected simultaneously.
“Whatever. Ready to go?”
“Sure.” Warrick followed Don out of the break room.

Stella snapped the coffeemaker on.
“Are those two….?”
“Yeah.”
“And that guy’s leaving soon?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s Don’s luck. Did you get anything out of that guy?”
“Not much.” Stella pulled a clean mug from the cupboard. “But enough to know there’s something going on.”
“Holiday romance. Here one week, gone the next.” Danny sighed. “I’ve had few of those.”

“Too bad.” She sighed. “I could definitely see some potential in that.”
“Stella the Matchmaker.”
“That’s the Greek in me. It’s a real shame.”
“Maybe it’s better. Long distance things don’t work.”
“It could." Stella stated. "We see weirder things every day.” .

“From a meddling mama to a hopeless romantic in fifteen second. That’s seriously impressive.”
