Random Shoes

And we have none… Although Ianto got a haircut

and Jack wore a god awful shirt, no wonder Ianto was keeping away from him!

Out of Time

Christmas Eve and only Jack and Ianto are in the Hub, John has taken Ianto’s car keys

Jack tracks Ianto’s car from his office.

As Jack realizes where the car is, Ianto moves to anticipate his needs. It is the first time we see Ianto handing Jack his coat.

Combat

Tosh and Ianto have been complying information on strange injuries at the A&E. Ianto is being more involved in the cases.

Ianto will put forward his ideas to Jack, Tosh has suggested that the Weevils could be mutating in respect to the Weevil spray and Ianto suggests that they could be evolving instead.

Jack and Ianto will now look at each other in front of the others, where before they used to avoid looking directly at each other if they knew the other one was.

One of the Weevils in the cell has started moaning and Ianto calls Jack down.

Ianto starts with a normal tone of voice when he tells Jack that it started 10 minutes ago. He then changes his tone, to a much softer one when he asks “What do you think it’s doing?” Jack responds in kind with a quieter voice than he normally uses. Ianto is standing with his hands in his pockets and Jack has his arms crossed across his chest.

Their conversation is interesting in that we get Ianto directly questioning Jack and Jack answering. It is all to do with theories about the Weevils but it is an interesting study of the two of them communicating. Mostly it is just their voice, and an occasional glance.

Ianto seems to be showing some empathy for the Weevils.

Jack gets Ianto to trace calls from Dan Hodges phone, Ianto joins the team in the autopsy bay to report his findings. Ianto has a very relaxed posture, which is quite different from his normal one.

The team has a little round robin of who is looked at last gets to tell Dan Hodges wife that he has died. Owen looks to Tosh and Ianto, Ianto looks at Jack who looks at Gwen. It is all a silent communication between them all.

Later once the team is waiting for Mark Lynch to take the bait, Jack is standing in the door of his office, Ianto appears next to him, presumably he has been using Jack’s computer to do research. He stands close to Jack, who has turned to listen to what he has to say.

Jack then decides to take Ianto along to check out what he found out. Gwen wants to go, but Jack rebuffs her and at his invite Ianto heads straight away to collect Jack’s coat. When he squeezes past Gwen, he avoids looking at her, his professional mein in place.

Jack and Ianto get to role play. Good cop, bad cop. Apparently Ianto had to be the good cop as he was too cute to be the bad cop according to Jack. They play a little game of intimidation and speaking glances. Ianto has the devious smile on his face as he pulls the curtain closed around the hospital bed. Jack positions himself to the side of the patient and Ianto at the foot of the bed, so that he has to glance back and forth between the two.

Where they pause between talking, they glance at each other

Ianto eats a grape, and does anyone have a decent screencap of that? No. Only the after effects where he glances again at Jack when Jack starts to speak.

The lovely Aquila reminded me that there is something better than one measly screencap

They reach a dead end and Jack’s next cunningly plan is to take Janet out for a trip. Tosh asks that he calls her Janet and Jack replies that “Barbara just never seemed right.”

Ianto considers this and pulls his face where he seems to say “fair enough”. Ianto has positioned himself to Jack’s shoulder again. This is now starting to be a default position to place himself at Jack’s back.

In the SUV Ianto is in the front passenger seat with Jack, while Tosh is in the back. Tosh is using her hand held device so there is no need for her to be in the back seat. She is a more senior operative than Ianto and yet he is in the front with Jack.

Tosh and Ianto disagree with Jack on his latest plan. They will still support him, but they let him know that they disagree with it. Janet heads down an alleyway so Jack and Tosh get out and Ianto takes over driving the SUV. Once Ianto meets up with Tosh and Jack again, he moves back over to the passenger seat side.

When Gwen contacts them with information about the postcode, it is Ianto that puts it together.

The team break into the fight club. Ianto has his gun drawn, but you can see that he is still nervous about it.

In this episode we saw Jack and Ianto working together, that Ianto is growing as an agent, is trusted in the field. Most importantly is that Ianto will let Jack know if he disagrees with him. He won’t follow blindly, he will question and he will do his job. He will place himself at Jack’s back. It was the first clear indication of Jack’s loyal soldier.
