Luke felt he was holding his breath the entire time. The stands were vibrating with energy and it seemed as if the game was never going to end.

The lead was changing with almost every possession and the Snitch was nowhere in sight, as both seekers, Isabella Jackson a fifth year Gryffindor, and Maximus Maunders, a thick and lean seventh year for Slytherin, were circling the stadium, right next to each other since the match had started almost an hour and a half ago.

Luke was trying his best to be as bipartisan as possible, clapping and cheering when Gryffindor scored, but every time Reid scored, he always made eye contact with the Slytherin captain and gave him an encouraging smile.

However, what he really wanted was for the match to be over. The suspense of the live action thriller happening in front of him was just too much. He wanted to know if he would be dealing with a ridiculously happy or incredibly upset boyfriend.

“OLIVER HAS THE QUAFFLE AGAIN, WILL HE BE ABLE TO ADD TO SLYTHERIN’S 30 POINT LEAD?” Matt Jones’ voice boomed throughout the stadium.

Luke watched as the entire student body, faculty, alumni, parents, and Qudditch scouts watched as Reid zigged and zagged through out the sky. Reid was the fastest flyer out there and he was incredibly precise and had a sixth sense for bludgers.

Reid held the quaffle up above his head before jerking his arm a couple times, sending the Gryffindor keeper, Peter Poppover, diving towards the lower right hoop. But instead of releasing the quaffle in that direction, Reid yanked his broom to the left, sending the quaffle sailing through the highest middle hoop.

The Slytherin side of the stadium erupted with cheers.

“OLIVER SCORES HIS 100TH POINT OF THE GAME. SLYTHERIN LEADS 140 TO 100.”

Luke caught Reid’s eye as he flew back onto defense. He could have sworn he saw Reid smile, but he also knew that it was too early for Reid to start any sort of celebration.

“You’ve got to be kidding me? 100 points!” Casey yelled out in frustration. “Why can’t we stop his shots?”

“SARAH JOHNSON PASSES THE QUAFFLE TO DEXTER NEWBURY, WAIT LYLA STONE HAS HIT A BLUDGER IN HIS DIRECTION…OHH AND HE DROPS THE QUAFFLE, AND IT’S BEEN PICKED UP BY MORGAN MONTGOMERY, SLYTHERIN HAS A CHANCE TO GO UP BY FIFTY.”

Casey started stomping around. “I can’t watch them score again, I can’t watch them score again.”

“Come on! Defense! Defense!” Noah started chanting along with half of the stadium.

“You got this Peter!” Maddie yelled

Luke watched as the Slytherin chasers got into formation for scoring. Their technique was much different than most of the other houses, as when they had the quaffle they moved in a synchronized group. Reid was the fastest and had the best shot, but he never demanded the quaffle nor dictated what his other teammates should do. He had once described it to Luke as having the mentality of a bee. You always trusted the other person to do what was right, and if you did that, you would always know what or where or how they were going to move the quaffle, whether is be a pass or a shot.

The three chasers, Reid, Morgan, and Althea Mitchell, moved as one across the pitch as lightening fast speed. It was amazing how fast they were still flying given that they had been at this game now for almost an hour and a half, which was long for a Slytherin match.

“MONTGOMERY PASSES TO OLIVER WHO SENDS IT BACK TO MITCHELL. DOESN’T LOOK LIKE GRYFFENDOR WILL BE ABLE TO GET A BLUNGER THERE IN TIME. LOOKS LIKE MITCHELL IS ABOUT TO SHOOT…WAIT SHE PASSES IT BACK TO OLIVER WHO GIVES IT BACK TO MONTGOMERY. HE SHOOTS….BLOCKED BY POPPOVER…OLIVER PICKS UP THE REBOUND, NOW MITCHELL HAS THE BALL, SHE SHOOTS, SHE SCORES. SLYTHERIN GETS ANOTHER 10.”

“It’s over, it’s got to be over. Our team looks exhausted, they look like they just started.” Casey says as he sits down onto the bench, his head in his hands.

“There’s still the snitch, you guys still have a chance.” Ali says to cheer up her boyfriend.

“A chance! Max is one of the top seekers in school history.”

“NEWBURY SLIPS ONE PAST BURRITT ORYAN, GRYFFENDOR IS BACK ON THE BOARD. THE SCORE IS NOW 150 TO 110.”

It seemed like everybody was so preoccupied watching the chasers, beaters, and keepers and the constant back and forth between the two teams, that Luke thought that he might have been the only person to notice that Max and Izzy had both taken a nosedive down the pitch.

“I think the seekers see the snitch.” Luke said to nobody in particular. Matt Jones’ hadn’t even picked up on it yet and he could still hear his friends cheering for the Gryffindor chasers who currently had the quaffle.

Luke watched as the two seekers were almost touching the grass as they went in low circles around the field. He couldn’t tell how closer they were to the golden snitch, but he could tell that both of them had their eyes locked on something.

After what felt like a hundred hours, Matt Jones’ finally announced the action that was going on with the seekers.

“LOOKS LIKE MAUNDERS AND JACKSON HAVE THEIR EYES SET ON SOMETHING. COULD THE MATCH BE COMING TO A CLOSE?”

The stadium had an eerie silence around it as majority of the fans turned their attention down instead of up.

There were oh’s and ah’s but nobody could quite see what was going on and Slytherin used that time to score three more times.

Everybody’s attention turned back up towards the sky when both Max and Izzy quickly pulled up.

“THE SEEKERS ARE ON TO SOMETHING, WHO WILL GET THERE FIRST?”

Everybody was standing, their eyes glued on the seekers.

“SALLY BARNIBUS HAS HIT HER BLUNGER TOWARDS MAUNDERS…OH HE DODGES OUT OF IT’S WAY, NO, IT HITS JACKSONS. GRYFFINDOR’S SEEKER HAS BEEN HIT, HER BROOM HAS SNAPPED, AND WILL SHE BE ABLE TO REGAIN BALANCE?”

The stadium was going crazy.

Izzy was fighting to get control of her broken broom. The Slytherin and Gryffindor chasers hadn’t let up either, but Slytherin was still ahead by 60 points, even after two quick goals by Dexter. It was hard to even tell what was going on, as there were too many different things to watch as once.

“There’s no time, there’s no time!” Casey kept repeating. “Come on Izzy. Come on Gryffindor.”

“MAUNDERS ARM IS STRETCHED, JACKSON IS NOWHERE NEAR HIM…STONE HAS HIT A BLUNGER IN BARNIBUS DIRECTION... HER BROOMS BEEN HIT. GRYFFINDOR HAS CONTROL OF THE QUAFFLE…”

The entire stadium watched as Sarah Johnson took a shot.

“ORYAN BLOCKS THE SHOT, THE SCORE REMAINS 180 TO 120.”

Burritt threw the quaffle to Reid who took off as fast as a bullet, with Morgan and Althea right behind him. They effortlessly passed the quaffle to each other as they had the Gryffindor chasers chase after them. Reid was just about to shoot, when louder than all the noise in the stadium including Matt Jones’ amped voice, was the sound of Madam Hooch’s whistle.

The stadium went silent, anticipating the announcement. The players had slowed their brooms and were floating in the air, hanging, waiting.

Maximus was the only one flying as he rose higher into the sky. He flew right over to Reid and released his hand.

“MAXIMUS MAUNDERS HAS CAUGHT THE GOLDEN SNITCH, SLYTHERIN WINS.”

The stands were roaring, half were cheering while the other half was yelling in frustration at the outcome of the match. It was shear pandemonium as green and silver fireworks went off above the pitch, forming the outline of the Slytherin crest.

Luke could barely even hear his own thoughts over the noise of the crowd. He didn’t know if everybody else was feeling the same way he was feeling but he felt as if the entire stadium was moving in a hurried slow motion.

It was the oddest feeling and he wasn’t sure if he was the only person stuck in this bizarre vortex.

He could hear the muffled cheers and jeers of the surrounding crowd, but it sounded as if his head was full of water.

Maybe he was feeling this way because since the moment of the winner of the game was announced, he had locked eyes with Reid and Reid was coming his way.

Maybe when they were in their own world, this is what reality looked like.

Luke was pulled out of his daze when he felt Reid’s lips on his, his hovering body casting a shadow over him.

The motion and the sound came running back around him and it was almost deafening. The sound was everywhere except for the extreme quiet around him, as the captain of the winning Slytherin team was kissing the Head Boy of the losing Gryffindor house.

It was definitely shocking, as the gasps from the immediate crowd couldn’t comprehend what they were seeing. Everybody knew that they were together, and Gryffindor’s and Slytherin’s were allowed to date each other, but they were still rivals.

And the wounds in Gryffindor’s hearts were more than just freshly made.

Luke felt Reid’s lips leave his, and while still hovering in the air on his broom, Reid leaned in and whispered into Luke’s ear.

Luke couldn’t help but blush as Reid quickly rose back up into the sky and zoomed back over to his teammates who were cheering over by the Slytherin fans.

“Well, that was disgusting.” Casey said, glaring at Luke.

Luke shook his head and turned his attention towards his friends, he tried his best to wipe the goofy grin off his face, but he couldn’t help that Reid had just done that. He couldn’t help that that was who Reid was.

“Come on, I didn’t know he was going to do that!” Luke said but he couldn’t stop smiling. Reid usually scoffed at the any idea of a grand gesture so if anything Luke should be in more shocked than the innocent bystanders who only witnessed it.

“There is something called loyalties Luke.” Casey added

“You aren’t honestly mad are you?” Luke questioned, he knew that Casey was just amped up from the outcome of the game, but he didn’t need to take it out on him.

“Let it go Casey.” Noah said punching his friend in the shoulder. He wanted to add that Luke and Reid had been through a lot but chose to keep that part to himself. He didn’t know how much Luke had told Casey about everything that they had gone through in their relationship, and it definitely wasn’t his place to broadcast it to a stadium full of people.

“Thanks Noah.” Luke said, giving Noah a knowing look. He knew he could always count of Noah to rein Casey in, no matter how deep his hatred for Slytherin went.

“Fine, I get it, he’s your boyfriend, but lets get out of here, I can’t stand to be here any longer watching them celebrate.” Casey said, starting to make his way towards the aisles of the stadium, with Ali’s hand tight in his grip.

All of them followed Casey out of the stadium as many of the non-Slytherin’s were doing. They all made their way back towards the Castle, which Noah dropped away from Maddie to walk next to Luke.

“Is it a weird feeling?” Noah asked, nudging his shoulder into Luke’s.

“Kinda, like I feel happily disappointed.” Luke said knocking his shoulder back into Noah’s.

“You know he did it just to cause a scandal.”

“Oh trust me, I knew he had ulterior motives instantly, but it was still kinda romantic right?”

“Whatever you say, Luke.” Noah said with a laugh.

Noah’s laugh helped ease the tiniest bit of guilt that he was feeling in his gut. He knew he didn’t need to apologize for anything, but he was Gryffindor’s Head Boy, he shouldn’t necessarily being kissing the Slytherin captain. But to know that his best friend and one of the biggest Gryffindor fans Luke had ever known, was making light of it, felt good.

His friendship with Noah had come a long way this year, and to know that Noah always had his back was a great feeling.

“So, since I guess we won’t be holding a celebration in our Common Room tonight, what are your plans? Wanna just hang out?” Noah asked

“I…um…” Luke started, he didn’t really want to repeat what Reid had whispered in his ear, but he also didn’t quite no how to phrase it in a PG manner.

“You know what? Don’t worry about it, I totally get it. I’ll just hang out with Maddie.”

“I totally want to hang out with you, but Reid wants to celebrate…”

“Please don’t say anymore. I don’t like thinking about what you two do when your together.”

“When did you get so understanding?” Luke said with a laugh.

“I know you guys have been through a lot, and the school year is almost over, and why are you making me so sentimental all of a sudden.”

“Thanks Noah.” Luke smiled. “Did you ever think that this is where we would be at the end of our sixth year?”

“What? That we are both still horrible at Charms?” Noah laughed

“That, and that we are both so happy. You love Maddie, I have Reid. And Casey has Ali…”

“Oh no, we are not going there.” Noah laughed cutting Luke off of his emotional tangent. “Let’s just catch up to everybody.”

--

Reid emerged from the Slytherin locker room and saw Katie leaning up against the brick wall waiting for him.

“You think you are so clever.” Katie said with a smirk on her face.

“No congratulations?” Reid said, matching her smirk.

Katie just shook her head as Reid approached her.

Reid leaned in and kissed her cheek.

“You think you can just butter me up?” Katie said giving him a glare.

“What are you even talking about?” Reid responded playing coy.

“You are impossible, Oliver.” Katie smiled. She loved giving Reid a hard time, epically since she knew he was so happy. She leaned forward embracing him in a hug. “I’m so proud of you.” She whispered into his jacket.

She didn’t know if he heard her, but she didn’t care. She loved her best friend, every inch of his incredibly fucked up being. Maybe it was because now that Quidditch was over the end of their tenure at Hogwarts was now quickly coming to and end. An end that was inevitable.

An end, seven years in the making.

She pulled away from Reid, her eyes a little misty. She was thankful it was dim enough that he wouldn’t notice how emotional she was being.

“I’m assuming you’re already busy tonight.” She said looking up at him, still tight in his embrace.

“Just for a couple of hours. Not the whole night.” Reid said, looking into her eyes. It was this moment when he realized how much he had taken her friendship for granted. She had always gotten him, never trying to change him. He was so happy that she was his best friend.

Katie pulled away from Reid, and gave him a somber smile.

Reid grabbed Katie’s hand and they walked hand in hand back towards the Castle. They didn’t need to say anything more to each other. It was another reason their relationship worked so perfectly. They both enjoyed just comfortable silence that being with a best friend could bring.

As they approached the Castle Reid dropped Katie’s hand.

“I gotta go this way.” Reid said as he nudged his head to the right, the opposite direction of the Slytherin common room.

“Great game today, Oliver.” Katie said, giving him a small punch in the arm.

“What are you doing tonight? Going to celebrate?”

“Nah, I told Chris I would meet him later.”

“I don’t know what you se…”

“Don’t even finish that sentence.” Katie said, narrowing her eyes.

Reid just laughed.

“I’ll see you later.”

“Yeah.”

Reid took off down the hallway. His body was exhausted and sore, but he wanted to see Luke. That kiss he had given him after the game had been electrifying and his body hadn’t come down from the high of kissing him in front of the entire school.

Those few seconds of pure bliss had happened so quickly that he needed more of it.

He picked up the pace of his steps, as he didn’t want to keep Luke waiting too long. He had had only a second to tell him where to meet him, and he hadn’t really specified a time, other than later, but they were so in sync that he hoped that that had been enough information.

Reid caught the moving staircase just before it started to move and he took a second to try and relax. His whole body was vibrating. Between the win, the kiss, and the news that Dumbledore had given him the morning, today would go down as the second best day of his life.

The best day of his life was reserved for the day he fell in love with Luke.

The stairs stopped moving and Reid quickly hopped off. He loved that the hallways were clear of students. He knew that every single Slytherin was partying in the common room and students from other houses usually locked themselves away after a loss.

Reid slowed his pace before he rounded the last corner. He never liked looking like he had rushed anywhere, so he stopped and steadied his breathing before rounding the bend. He took multiple deep breaths.

“Breathe you fucking idiot.” Reid said as he exhaled, his breath shaky and uneven.

He peered around the corner to see Luke standing there, just leaning against the wall. He didn’t look like he had been there that long which was good.

Reid took one last breath before stepping into the corridor, making his way towards Luke.

Luke lifted his head hearing the sound of steps coming towards him. It took everything in his power to stay still as he waited for Reid to approach him.

“Hey.” Reid said as he finally reached Luke. He leaned into Luke, pressing him up against the wall, kissing him every so lightly.

“Mmm” Luke murmured into the kiss, not wanting Reid to pull away. Their lips lingered together for a few moments before Reid pulled away. “Hi.” Luke responded, his voice breathless and perfect.

Reid leaned back into, stealing a couple of more kisses.

“When did you turn into such a romantic, Mr. Oliver?” Luke teased as he ran Reid’s silver and green tie through his fingers. He didn’t know why Reid wanted him to meet him outside of McGonagall’s office but he had learned a long time ago not to question why Reid did a lot of things.

“Wanted to bring you back to the scene of the crime, Mr. Snyder.” Reid smiled as Luke tugged on his tie pulling him back into his body.

The kiss quickly turned from sweet and delicate to fast and hot. Reid had Luke pinned up against the wall, one of Luke’s hands was tugging his hair, while the other still had it’s fingers wrapped firmly around his tie, continuing to pull him as close to Luke’s body as possible.

“Reid” Luke breathed.

It sent familiar chills through Reid’s entire body.

They continued until they were broken up by Nearly-Headless Nick making a comment about how kids theses days had no respect for people who actually used the hallways for walking through.

This made Luke laugh and the hot, steamy, lustful moment was lost. But Reid didn’t mind. They would have plenty of time to pick up where they left off.

“I never did tell you how amazing you played.” Luke said as he ran his hand down Reid’s arm, before grabbing at his hand. “It was pretty incredible.”

“Thanks.” Reid responded. He normally didn’t like compliments about his playing, as he knew he was the best and most people just said it as a pleasantry. But he knew that Luke truly meant it. It was nice to know that Luke wasn’t using him for anything. “Are you upset about the loss?”

“I didn’t have much time to react because you came out of nowhere.”

“Yeah about that…”

“You have an explanation for that? I’d love to hear it. My friends gave me so much shit!”

“Can you just settle for an ‘I Love You’?”

“You’re impossible.” Luke laughed. “But I guess I’ll take it.”

“Good, because that’s actually the truth.” Reid grinned.

Luke smiled back up at Reid. It never got old hearing Reid say it.

“Let’s walk.” Reid suddenly said, grabbing Luke’s hand and dragging him away.

“Where are we going?” Luke asked, but not really caring.

“Now, I’m not trying to get all sappy, but I love this castle and I’m graduating soon, so I just want to walk around it with you, if that’s okay.”

“Okay.” Luke said squeezing Reid’s hand as he let the older boy lead him. Reid was never good at sentiments, but this was so Reid.

“I have some news for you too.” Reid added quickly. This was what had really been making him nervous all day.

“Yeah, and what’s that?”

“When I was on my way to get ready for the match, Dumbledore found me and asked me to come to his office. I thought it was strange because if he was going to wish me good luck, he could have just done it in the hall, but than again, he probably shouldn’t be seen picking favorites…anyways I went up to his office and he had informed me that he was able to fulfill a request that I had asked of him a while back. I had almost forgotten I had even asked him it in the first place, but I was also pretty hyped up about the match so my head was only in one place…”

“Reid, you are rambling.”

“Right…Well, Dumbledore told me that Andy Smudgley, the investigative journalist for the Daily Prophet said that he would be willing to take on a summer apprentice, which, if you wanted, could be you.”

Luke stopped dead in his tracks. He wasn’t sure that he had heard Reid correctly or even at all.

The silence was killing Reid.

“Can you please say something?”

“You asked Dumbledore for me?” Luke finally got out. He was feeling ridiculously overwhelmed.

“I know that writing is what you want to do, so I just thought that Dumbledore might be able to help. I never expected Dumbledore to actually ever do me a favor but I figured it was worth a shot…”

Reid’s ramblings were cut off by Luke’s lips.

“Don’t let it go to your head…” Luke started in between kisses “…but you are perfect.”

“Humble as always.” Reid laughed into Luke’s lips. He wasn’t sure how Luke was going to take the news because Luke was so headstrong himself, but he had wanted to do this for Luke because he loved him. He had never done anything for somebody that didn’t involve some kind of personal gain for himself.

“I can’t believe you did that for me.” Luke said as he finally pulled away. His laced his fingers with Reid’s and they continued their walk through the silent school. “I, I don’t even know what to say.”

“You don’t need to say anything.” Reid said honestly.

“So you’ll spend your days at St. Mungo’s and I’ll be out in the field writing for the number one Wizarding newspaper, and than we can come home at the end of each day and be together.”

Reid perked up at Luke’s statement. Luke had actually never given him an answer about living together for the summer. He had figured that if Luke did take the job that at least they would both be living in London, but this was changing everything.

“Does that mean you want to live with me this summer?”
