I was wrong about the silk... after a long, over 24 hour bath in bleach... it finally, FINALLY, has mostly disintegrated. There are some small little fuzzy bits, and two long strands of threads (probably from the selvedge), but the rest is gone. My goldwork books came in, and they weren't supposed to ship until next week! I hadn't realized that silk embroidery is a big part of gold work, but that's what it seems from glancing at the pictures. Both books have lots of pretty full color pictures. Drooooool.( more on the books here... )

I spent tonight not sewing, but reading online about medieval garden designs. Yeah, that bug has bit me, and I am trying to shake it loose but it won't let go. I did get some sewing in earlier today, tho not enough time. ( cut cause I got long winded, again... )

Tire silk has been ordered for the gown and kirtle, from buttonhole twist, to sewing threads, and even some gold metallic (over poly core, not silk sadly) to try and make decorative thread buttons for my gown. I want to do up some of the gold thread over colored silk thread over wooden bead and see how well those might look ( Read more... )

Well, I finished the upper sleeve for the kirtle. I have it in yellow linen, flatlined in cotton muslin to help it hold its shape, and lined in bleached white linen. I know now what to modify to make it fit perfectly next time. It needs a small dip in where the elbow bends in. Also a 1.5" ease may be a little snug, although I won't know for sure ( Read more... )

I bought buttonhole twist, some black and natural fine sewing threads, some thicker threads for topstitching, and their sampler cards so I can see what other types they have, and what colors for future color matching.
