I spent tonight not sewing, but reading online about medieval garden designs. Yeah, that bug has bit me, and I am trying to shake it loose but it won't let go. I did get some sewing in earlier today, tho not enough time. ( cut cause I got long winded, again... )

Tire silk has been ordered for the gown and kirtle, from buttonhole twist, to sewing threads, and even some gold metallic (over poly core, not silk sadly) to try and make decorative thread buttons for my gown. I want to do up some of the gold thread over colored silk thread over wooden bead and see how well those might look ( Read more... )

I've been working on putting some things onto eBay. Fabric from my stash that I no longer want for various reasons, and books that I also no longer want. Some are duplicates from the merging of the Small library, and some just are no longer of interest. I will be posting them later this evening. ( more on eBay, computers, and hand sewing behind this cut... )

I spent last night working on the Henrician skirt, putting on the last of the trim, and many, many, many yards of cord along both edges of the trim. Hmmm... rough estimate, about 31 yards of cording. Yeah, it's a big skirt at about 7 yards wide ( Read more... )

Taking a small break from sewing, to write down a few thoughts to remember, more like sewing tips for working on velvet.

• Use a walking foot when sewing on velvet, whenever possible.
• When pinning trim to velvet, use lots of pins, at least an 1" apart, along both sides if it is wide, then machine sew over all pins before removing them. Hand basting  ( Read more... )

Silk threads have been ordered from https://www.silkthings.com . I bought buttonhole twist, some black and natural fine sewing threads, some thicker threads for topstitching, and their sampler cards so I can see what other types they have, and what colors for future color matching.
