The main plan for today was to trim PoohBear and Dirk's hooves; they have been in dire need of trimming for sometime now, but various things have continuously conspired against me to prevent the job from being done: Extreme Cold, Having my back go out, and others. Today however, the weather was warm(ish) and my back was feeling a lot better.

We got some important work done with the horses today: We got Bonnie and Charles' stall completely cleaned out, and we got Charles' hooves trimmed back. I hate working on his hooves, as they are absolutely "hooves from Hell." It snowed again today, much to the aggravation of many. The weather forecasts had called for cold temperatures, but there was no precipitation in the forecast until 24 hours before it hit.      With The Kidling's assistance, I got most of the winter preparation done around the farm.  As an important note, The Kidling actually helped out a lot, with no noticable complaining once we got going.  This is a huge improvement over his normal attitude, and I sincerly hope it's not a one-time deal!

     I've had a machine from a Sears service call sitting in the shop since last October!  I'm delighted to say that the parts finally arrived yeserday and were installed forthwith!  It took a little more doing than it ought to have, since the key part wasn't quite the same as the original, and required a little tinkering to get it to fit properly ( Read more... )

     Almost forgot to mention...  Opened a new hay-bale last Saturday (the 14th).  This is one of those huge round-bales, and so far nearly half of what we have pulled off of it has been rotten.  There's usually one small bad-spot where they sit on the ground, but it only goes one layer or so deep.  This bale has mutiple bad-spots, and they've gone ( Read more... )
