Today is hurricane Irene day. It's breezy out, with cooler temperatures in my area. The high winds knocked over my bell pepper plant container. I stood it back up and have tied it to the cinderblock wall in the backyard. I harvested three nice red tomatoes today. My tomato plants became so heavy with unripe fruit that two of them fell over even though they had cages around them. They're planted in containers and the entire pot fell over in both cases. I relocated those plants to be near a cinder block wall and tied their branches and cages to the blocks to keep ( Read more... )

I hope it's not too early, but I planted all four of my tomato plants in containers yesterday (in the rain). I also planted two very pathetic broccoli sprouts. I hope they make it. It's hard to believe but I'm *almost* getting tired of eating tomatoes. Especially the cherry type. Next year I'll grow only the larger "Early Girl" variety. I prefer having tomato sandwiches (using the big ones) to eating endless salads with cherry tomatoes in them (or just eating them by themselves ( Read more... )
