Today I finally contacted a wildlife rehabber who would take my birdie friend, for which I'm very grateful. So now I'm birdless. I miss my little winged one and hope she'll be all better soon. While at the rehabber's home, I saw a couple baby squirrels (*squee!*). One of them was so friendly, and almost old enough to be set free. I got to pet ( Read more... )

My birdie friend is becoming feisty. Whenever I have to pick her up to transfer her to another cage, she tries to peck me and struggles as much as she can. I'm sure that's a good sign. :) I hope she'll eventually come to realize that I'm not going to harm her. It's hard to believe but I'm *almost* getting tired of eating tomatoes. Especially the cherry type. Next year I'll grow only the larger "Early Girl" variety. I prefer having tomato sandwiches (using the big ones) to eating endless salads with cherry tomatoes in them (or just eating them by themselves ( Read more... )

I found a full grown pigeon in our backyard today and it can't fly. I don't see any obvious injuries. It will jump up and flap its wings just to land with a thud a few inches away. I put it in an old rat cage with a bowl of water and some sunflower seeds. I haven't seen it eat or drink yet. At the moment it's resting with it's feathers puffed ( Read more... )

Yesterday the dogs were chasing a pigeon in the backyard -- which they've done many times -- and at first I thought nothing of it, until I noticed that the bird couldn't fly away.
