Our female eclectus parrot, Jewel, died today. She was 21. She had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure over the summer and nearly died then. The pigeon survived the night but didn't eat anything. An attempt to release it failed. So, I called my boss, who has rehabbed pigeons in the past, and asked for help. As a result the pigeon has now been hand fed a mixture of millet seed, milk and bread and even drank a bit of water on its own. The color of its plumage indicates it is a juvenile ( Read more... )

So, yesterday we decided to take Sergio, the 25 year old African Grey with issues and ended up coming home with two birds. Yes, you read that right, two birds. We already have a zoo. Currently there are 8 cats, 7 parrots, 2 dogs and a rabbit. A friend of mine is trying to rehome birds belonging to a cancer patient who is terminal. One is a cockatiel. Sometimes, seemingly small things nag at me and bother me. Today it's a crow. I just missed 5 parking spots this morning, which caused me to round the corner. The family is warm and safe, Dino is serenading me and I'm cooking up my own personal storm in the kitchen. It doesn't get much better than this, unless you count the crazy eclectus on my shoulder, cleaning my teeth and making me giggle.

Yesterday was supposed to be "Free the Starlings" day but it was postponed so everyone could be here for the event.
