The second round of Beauty and the Beast performances started tonight. This run combines disabled and non-disabled actors. This is my fourth year being involved, and the ninth year of the program, called the Conejo Theatre for Everyone. Non-disabled actors from the first run serve as mentors to the disabled actors. Gil Cates, the founder of the UCLA school of theatre, film, and television, along with the Geffen Playhouse, passed away on Monday. I never met him, but I know people who have worked with him. This was a good Saturday. Jeff and I ate two home-cooked meals together: crepes for breakfast and pasta with veggies and cumin for late lunch. Mmm! From June 11-19, I saw 8 shows. 5 of them were part of Radar LA, the new SoCal version of New York's Under the Radar festival. It focused on contemporary new works, a cross section of local theatre and international collaborations.
