I went out for a run this morning in the Seattle rain, and realized that I, and probably many others, need fitness motivation between now and the end of the year. So here's the deal:

On January 4th, I took Jess out on a private sunset dinner cruise in Key West and proposed. She said yes. I'm engaged! :)

About 5 weeks ago, I picked up a pair of Vibram Five Fingers at REI, after Matt's positive review. The selection at REI was narrow in my size, so I ended up with the Sprint. I've been running in them ever since, up to 8 miles last week ( Read more... )

I'm sad I missed CMU Carnival! It looks like one of the bigger turnouts; it makes me a little sad to have missed it. But I've also been sick this entire week, and would've ended up flying sick to Pittsburgh, which I'm sure would've made it worse. I accomplished my goal of running the Mercer Island Half Marathon. I think I've figured out my new goals. I want to:

• Rest my knee: From my previous training, I know I can run at least 9 miles pain-free, I did it during this last training cycle. It was only when I tried to increase my pace too quickly that muscle imbalance started hurting my knee ( Read more... )

I ran 13.1 miles in 2:29:58 today, the Mercer Island Rotary Half Marathon. I ran the race with jonobie the whole way, though I will admit that she probably beat me in the official time by something like a second. But I'll get to that later. Jumped through hoops to get Ubuntu 8.10 onto my PS3. Jumped through more hoops to get WPA working so I could get it onto our home network (that required a custom kernel). Played around a bit. The system is severely limited and the graphics are ass slow. There's no accelerated video support, so you can't use it as a media system at all - video ( Read more... )
