The news of Jason and Chad breaking up rippled through the Walker-clan, with everyone having their own ideas on the how, why and who broke up with who first. Mario and Quinn heard it from Jordan, who heard it from Scotty, who was rather tactful with regard Chad, but less so towards Jason.
Justin only listened to the story, but kept his opinion to himself, because he was walking on a tightrope, with Jordan still angry with him. He spun it into his own story and told Tommy and Kitty. Sarah was with Tommy when Justin called him, so it was only a matter of time before it reached Nora, who was all sympathy for ‘poor Chad’.
Kitty, on the other hand, immediately saw a good excuse to call Robert, and heard the “Jason” side of the story as well. Which meant that within a day the story of ‘poor Chad’ rippled back to Scotty with the ‘poor Jason’-version. And Scotty told Kevin.
The only one amazingly quiet about it was Kevin, who had spent an entire morning listening to Chad explaining it, belittling it, shrugging it away to ending up in Kevin’s arms, crying like a baby and once Kevin returned to him with what he had heard about Jason, Chad was passed the ‘shock, denial, anger’-stages and had seemingly reached the ‘acceptance’-part.
And it was ‘seemingly’, because Kevin knew Chad well enough to know that Chad’s dismissive behavior was more about self-preservation, than that he had stopped loving Jason, but Chad had this amazing ability to simply ‘shut out’ what he didn’t want to deal with. And right now, that was Jason. So, all Kevin could was go along with it.
Just like he had to go along with Nora and Chad taking several marriage-preparations out of his and Scotty’s hands. With the words ‘trust us’ Nora told them not to worry about the food, drinks, flowers, music or any other arrangements for the party, which worried Kevin and Scotty a bit.
However, Nora and Chad really worked good together and with the wedding a little over two months away, she and Chad called in a few favors to get the best of the best for both Kevin and Scotty and it was Chad who thought of contacting Jordan, to help them find out if Scotty would have any special wishes for their big day. Nora gave him Jordan’s number.

“Hey, Jordan.” Chad says with a smile, opening his door further to let Jordan in. Jordan smiles shyly, still not entirely accustomed to the idea of suddenly being physically close to the same porn-actor that he day-dreamed about in his teen-age years and who still looks amazingly good.
Once Jordan is on the couch with a drink close at hand, Chad sits down beside him. On his lap a thick file with all sorts of information, magazines, leaflets and quotations. Chad start to point out to Jordan what Nora and he had been thinking of and Jordan goes from one shock to the next.
Nora and Chad have some elaborate plans and every little detail is carefully thought over. And Jordan loves them, choosing without hesitation what he knows Scotty will love and where a compromise, between what Scotty and Kevin would want, should be made, something that would somehow please them both.
As the evening progresses, the conversation becomes more personal, with Jordan giving more intimate details on Scotty than he had planned to share with Chad and Chad telling him about how Kevin and he had met, something he usually doesn’t talk about, but the atmosphere between then is so casual and easy, that it just feels natural.
“Looks like that was the last decision to make.” Chad says, putting the file beside him and stretching a bit. “One more drink?” He offers. Jordan nods, but as he pushes aside the file something falls to the ground. It is a price-list and he holds his breath.
While it was nice to simply browse for what he and Chad thought to be the best for Kevin and Scotty, it was obvious that the price-tag had not played much of a factor. And in all it looks very pretty and he’s sure that Kevin and Scotty will both love it, but the prizes….
“… Scotty is going to have a heart-attack when he sees the bill.”
“Oh, that little detail.” Chad waves it away.
“Not a detail. I’m serious, Chad. Money may not mean much to you or Kevin or Nora, but I seriously wonder if Scotty feels the same….”
“Sweetie, you don’t really believe that either Kevin or Scotty is going to see one bill, do you?”
“Then who’s going to pay for the wedding? Nora?”
“I am. Kevin is my friend, my best friend. It will be in my garden. And I decide what happens there. And I am going to give him and Scotty their dream-wedding. One of us is going to have the perfect day.”
For a moment Jordan sees a deep sadness in Chad, that immediately gets brushed away, but it already made an impression on Jordan. Suddenly he wonders how much of this casual, easy-going image he has, is really Chad Barry.
“I … I heard about you and Jason. I’m sorry, it didn’t work.”
“Yeah, me too.”
“I understand his decision to leave was a bit sudden, wasn’t it?”
“Yes, but it was his decision. I have to respect it.” Chad says calmly and Jordan frowns. Is that how easy it is, to simply forget about someone?
But then Chad swallows hard and asks:
“Can we talk about something else?”
“Sure… What?”
“What about your love-life?”
“If ever I get one, I’ll tell you all about it. I swear.” Jordan laughs.
“You don’t have someone?” Chad seems genuinely surprised and Jordan feels flattered that Chad would think he has a boyfriend. “I mean you look good, you have a wonderful laugh and you’re so caring.”
“Yeah, well, I’m also just a janitor, with little money, who lives with two straight people in an apartment. Somehow that doesn’t make me exactly boyfriend-material.”
“So, you’re not day-dreaming about anyone?” Chad grins and for a second Jordan is tempted to reply that he’s day-dreaming about Chad and then see what happens.
But the image of Justin comes to him and he can’t help it. It is Justin he wants.
“There is a guy,… but he’s straight. So, not much chance. I should forget about him.”
“Not easy when you’re in love with him.” Chad replies, thinking of Jason, and Jordan sighs.
Chad hits the nail on the head. That is exactly the problem, Jordan thinks. He fell in love with Justin, though he tried not to. And now, it is just irreversible. And it annoys Jordan, because he knows he should not have slept with Justin and he blames himself. He should have know that Justin, even if he might be bi-sexual, would not admit to it.
Suddenly he feels the need to be home, see Justin, maybe talk to him. Find a way to deal with this. He gets up.
“I think I’d better go home. We have discussed, what we plan to do for Kevin and Scotty and I had a great night, but…” Jordan starts.
“You’re not driving. Not after all these drinks…” Chad says. “I’ll pay for the cab, to get you safely back home..” , then he thinks of the guest-room and continues: “..Or you could stay here tonight…” He doesn’t mean anything by it, he just doesn’t want to see Jordan in trouble with the police, or killing himself in some accident.
But to Jordan, the memory of Justin telling him, that what they had was ‘just sex’, and Chad’s sudden offer makes him believe that this is all Chad wants from him as well. He misinterprets Chad’s offer as a way to make him stay the night. For sex. And just that. For a moment Jordan is perplexed, but then a wave of anger comes over him.
“I’m sorry, but I’ll drive back.”
“Come on. That wouldn’t be sensible.”
“Nor is staying here and have sex with you.”
“Excuse me?” Chad is unpleasantly surprised, especially since that was not his plan at all.
“Do I have the words ‘Fuck me, I’m gullible’ tattooed on my forehead or something?! I’m sick and tired of people trying to use me!”
“Jordan, I…” Chad starts, but Jordan grabs his jacket and turns to Chad.
“It was a nice evening, but I’m gone!”
He flings open the door and moves to his car, Chad follows him.
“Let me at least get you cab, Jordan, you’ve drinking too much.”
“I’ll take my chances.”
“Don’t be stupid, if the police catches you….’
“I’ll TAKE my chances, I said.”
“Jordan, you might get an accident, driving off like that.”
“I don’t care.”
“Jordan, don’t do this. Stay here. This is completely irresponsible!”
“I’m sorry, but you’ll have to find someone else to shag tonight.” Jordan replies angrily and he drives off without a second glance at Chad.
“Idiot!” Chad curses, but realizing there’s nothing else he can do, he goes back into his house and slams the door behind him.
