I can't stop wondering if there is any chance of Estonian ennäe (behold) being related to Hebrew הִנֵּה
and Estonian vaata (look) being related to Russian вот?

 Is there any rule to determine whether a word takes -de or -te in the genitive plural?

i was reading the Wikipedia entry on the Roma and noticed that while most of the versions in other languages were titled some version of the form "Roma", the Estonian one was titled "Mustlased". where does this word come from? it doesn't look like a cognate of any of the other common words in European languages for 'gypsy', either. i'm curious ( Read more... )

Looking for Estonian Etymological dictionaries, when I came across this on google: "Eesti keele mõisteline sõnaraamat" 'Notional/Semantic(?)
