Estonian dictionaries

Looking for Estonian Etymological dictionaries, when I came across this on google: "Eesti keele mõisteline sõnaraamat" 'Notional/Semantic(?) Dictionary of the Estonian Language' I understand the word mõisteline, at least according to the dictionary entry, of something about 'notional'; (also apparently somewhat synonymous with tähenduslik 'semantic ( Read more... )

Hoh, an online etymological dictionary, imagine that. Thanks for that link.

The reason I'd asked is I was curious about the roots of the word päris; hkitsune had asked if I'd had any intuition on what it might be related to. For some reason I was stumped initially but then it hit me that it might be similar to Finnish perus 'basic, fundamental'. Since estonian seems to be more innovative in terms of vowel changes (hobune vs finnish hevonen), this seems like a possible match.

Do you know when the recent etymological dictionary project began?

You were very right in connecting päris to Finnish perus 'basic, fundamental':
