In a mall in my hometown, there's a large wall of chalkboards in the food court that serves to isolate graffiti to a harmless, erasable area. I was there last week getting something to eat when I saw a blond man (a suspicious sight in southern New Mexico) walk up to the board, write the words "kappi ära", smile, and walk away. My first thought was that it was some kind of fraternity phrase, but on second glance, I wondered if it could be Finnish. Stalking him and his family for a few seconds, my suspicions that it was a foreign language was confirmed, but I couldn't figure out what they were speaking (I just knew it wasn't Swedish, which was my other guess).
I came home and Googled "kappi ära" and up came Estonian websites (at least I had the right family). Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out the meaning from context, so I'm hoping we have some Estonians here to solve this mystery, or at least someone who had the balls to take up the study of a language with 14 noun cases. :P
Thanks!
