“No more what?”
“Nicky?” Greg tried to twist his head to see the man on the door. “Is that you?”
“Yeah, it’s me and no more what?”
“Wrapping and unwrapping! I feel like a Christmas present hiding in a house with fourteen little kids. And they all got a nurses uniform!”
“Do they give you meds for the pain?”
“Yeah, but how can a burn heal if they keep ripping the bandages off all the time? And that one nurse who always tries to grope my ass…”
“The blond?”
“The brunette with the moustache.”
“Sorry, I thought you meant women.”
“I did.”
“Oh… Anyway, good thing you sound like yourself. Before you fell asleep you kept talking about a Pekingese named Eddie. Then you just passed out.”
“What time is it now?”
“Eight in the morning. They must have been good drugs if you could sleep the whole night.”
“Night was good, but now I’m going out of my mind.”
“Pains?”
“Boredom. I have to lie on my front and I can’t even see who comes in. You could be some pervert who sneaks in to take advantage of my young perky behind. Good thing you’re a dedicated bottom, or I’d be really worried.”
“Greg, they put you in that gown so that they can easily change your bandages.”
“I know, but why does it have to be open all the way down? I mean, my ass is way too good to be wasted like that. It deserves a better audience.”
“That’s true.” Nick laughed. “I brought you some breakfast, I remember what the hospital food is like.”
“Thanks.” Greg grabbed the bag of take-out from him. “What are you doing?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean now.”
“We haven’t heard anything yet, but it’s been one day. Everything’s chaotic.”
“Have you heard anything from the network? My phone’s dead and buried.”
“They took the show off the air for now. There`s almost two months worth of unaired episodes, but they don’t want anyone to accuse them of using this for promotion.”
“So you got time to go to my place and get my laptop?”
“Sure, but why do you need it?”
“Boredom brings out the sickest sides of my imagination. I wanna put down some ideas.”

“Remind me never to go get the mail in my Spiderman briefs.” Eric commented when he came back to bed, riffling through a stack of mail. “Some creep was waiting there with a camera.”
“At the mail boxes?”
“Yeah, old Ms. Cooper smacked him on the head with her bag.”
“How did he even get into the building?”
“No idea, but guess what he asked me? Before the disciplinary actions.”
“How much webs has the Spiderman weaved inside your pants?”
“Was that a serious suggestion or a come-on?”
“I’m not sure, what did he say?”
“He wanted to know if you were coming down and how bout a photo together.”
“Well, that was unavoidable.”
“It was?”
“Think. The bombing is all over the news, and they can`t get any of the survivors to talk, most of them are still in the hospital. Director, whose gay husband is also the number one pin-up boy of daytime is good enough for them right now.”
“I’m number one?”
“You just got accosted in the hallway in your undies, and that part excites you?”
“Did that sound self-centred?”
“In this situation? Yes. Anything for me?”
“Bills, adds, letter from Boston, more bills-”
“Boston?”
“This one.” Eric handed him the envelope and focused on his own mail. Ryan twisted the envelope around in his hand before he finally opened it.
“Wedding invitation.”
“Are you gonna go?”
“I have to or she’ll never forgive me. Take a look.” He gave the content to Eric. Attached to the invitation was an engagement photo of the happy couple.
“Cute couple. She looks a bit like you. Same colouring-”
“Probably. Siblings usually look alike.”
“Siblings?” Eric took another look at the picture. “I didn’t even know you had siblings.”
“Just one.”
“Somehow I always thought you were raised by a bunch of Wolfes.”
“I’ve heard that so many times it’s not funny anymore.”
“You all howl at the full moon?”
“Delko.”
“Couldn’t resist that one…” Eric went back to eyeing the invitation. “What’s the groom like?”
“Haven’t seen him for years, he used to be in the same class with her when they were kids. I think his family moved away for a while. He used to be this chubby little kid who couldn’t stop eating sour worms.”
“You mean the candy or real worms?”
“The candy, and I don`t think she even liked him too much back then. But he did grow up nicely.”
“No complimenting young pretty guys when I`m listening. It was in the wedding wows.”
“It wasn’t.” Ryan laughed. “But I promised to help you fishing if you take me to your hut on the beach and make sure you don’t get your blue suede shoes wet. That happens when you get wed by a part-time Elvis-impersonator on the beach in Hawaii.”
“I don’t have a hut on the beach.”
“Neither did the priest. It’s two weeks from now.”
“Kinda short notice.”
“Or they had a four month argument about it before she sent this.”
“You don’t get along?”
“Karen and I get along just fine. Me and the rest of them not so much.”
“You get along so well you don’t even talk about her? I talk about my sisters all the time.”
“That’s because they’ll come over for their impromptu housing inspections if you don’t call back. They are unavoidable.”
“I thought you liked my sisters!”
“I do like them, but they give the words nosy, meddlesome, and gossipy whole new meanings.”
“Now that you’ve made your deep probing analysis of my siblings, let’s hear about yours.”
“Three years younger than me, writes for the Boston News, getting married soon.”
“When was the last time you talked with her?”
“The week before we went to Hawaii. I told her we were going to do it, but we hadn’t decided the time or place yet.”
“How did she take it?”
“She threatened to do some really nasty things to me if I didn’t invite her. After you kidnapped me I kinda forgot it.”
“Did you call her after we came back?”
“I was going to, but she called me first. She read about the wedding from Soaps R Us.”
“Was she mad?”
“That’s putting it mildly, but then I managed to redirect her anger to the right target.”
“What? Me?”
“You kidnapped me and kept me occupied during the honeymoon. Your fault.”
“So when we go to Boston, she’ll blame me for everything?”
“You want to go?”
“The invitation’s for two. She’s expecting me.”
“And you’ll go?”
“Will she come after me if I don’t?”
“Probably.”
“So we don’t have a choice.”
“I don’t have a choice, you do. And remember you wanted to go.”
“Is she that spicey?”
“When she gets to know you she’ll love you. And my parents will…” Ryan paused to think. “You know that movie where that countess killed young maidens and bathed in their blood?”
“Yeah…”
“That’s like the kid`s version of my mom.”
“Is she gonna kill me and fill her tub with my blood?”
“Nope, you’re not a virgin. Not even close…She’s tightly pulled in all meanings of the term.”
“What does that mean?”
“You still got that leaflet about the show’s fan meeting?”
“Yeah…” Eric reached down from the bed and pulled a stack of magazines from the lower drawer of the nightstand. “This one?”
“Yeah, I remember there was a picture here… That one. Front row, third from the left.”
Eric looked at the picture.
“That’s what your mom looks like?”
“That crow, whoever she was, is totally the same type, except that my mom would never come to a fan meeting of any sort. Skinny little skeleton with trimmed nails, bright lipstick and a huge bun on top of her head. Light coloured tailored suits, high heels and jewels to match. It’s like their uniform.”
“Their uniform?”
“When we go to that wedding…” Ryan shuddered. “You better be ready, because a whole pack of those will attack as soon as we walk in.”
