FIC: Vampires, Demons and Torchwood, Oh my! (20a/?)

Sep 11, 2008 00:16

Name: Vampires, Demons and Torchwood, Oh my!
Rating: PG-13
Pairings/Characters: Jack/Ianto, Spike/Buffy, Willow/Tosh, Xander/Anya, Martha, Owen, Faith, some minor OCs, the Doctor, Donna.
Summary: Sequel to Magic and Mayhem at the Rift. The Scoobie gang, now fully integrated into the Torchwood group and settled in to their new lives, discover there’s more coming through the rift than the odd demon and alien. This story is set post Exit Wounds, so there are minor spoilers. However, I have major problems with Exit Wounds and, as such, only some of the storyline happened (same goes for Reset which, although it happened, did not end like it did in the series in my head. Dead Man Walking and A Day in the Death DID NOT HAPPEN. I’m in my happy place now ...). Episodes like Adrift, Something Borrowed and Out of the Rain did happen, though (Like I said before: happy place) and may be referred to or even flash-backed to from time to time.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Torchwood or Buffy the Vampire Slayer … I do however own the cracked story idea - and proud of it, thankyouverymuch! I don’t own the title of this story either, however, that was thought up by the wonderful ickle18(I say wonderful because anyone who can come up with this title must be), the daughter of missthingsplace THANK YOU!

My other stories and links to the chapters of Magic and Mayhem (and Vampires, Demons and Torchwood) can be found here, at my master list.

Slightly shorter half-chapter today because I suck and I've been playing Spore (which rocks, btw) instead of writing. >.>

And I'm an idiot who posted this post to torchwoodslash by mistake. Kill me now. -headdesk-

This one's for cherry_soup888 because, frankly, she rocks :)

Chapter 20a: Indigo.

Saturday 23rd August
23:03

Jack was fed up. The soldier sat in front of him had contacted him to tell him he had valuable information for Torchwood. Three beers later, he still hadn’t said anything of any use and had started flirting with Jack.

Which, in any other circumstance, would be fantastic.

But all Jack wanted to do at that moment was go home, crawl into bed, snuggle up beside his soon-to-be-husband - no, Civil Partner - and ravish him in his sleep.

Well, maybe he’d wake him up first. It depended on how kinky he was feeling.

At this point, however, the chance of getting home before midnight was miniscule, and Ianto was never pleased when he was home late. Thusly, he would not get lucky tonight.

Jack was fed up.

“Another beer?” he offered Private Keltz, with a sigh. The private, who had asked Jack to call him ‘Pat’ not long after he’d started flirting, nodded, blearily.

“So,” the private said, “I tell the major that if he salvages this device from some random aliens, the Doctor isn’t going to be pleased.”

Like a codeword implanted in Jack’s brain, he instantly started paying closer attention to his drunken comrade. “Oh? Why?”

“Because he’d thought he’d dealt with the Sontarans already,” the private hiccupped, as Jack called for another beer and glass of water. “And he wouldn't be very pleased if he came to U.N.I.T. and found a bunch of Sontarans wandering around.”

“How would they be there?” Jack asked, nudging the glass towards him.

“Well, they shalvaged a teleport, innit?” the private slurred.

Jack raised an eyebrow. “They salvaged a teleport?” He doubted the teleport would start transporting dead Sontarans to Earth, but he was still interested.

Taking a long swig from his beer, Pat nodded. “Yeah. They say it’ll revo...revo...revo...”

“Revolutionise?” Jack offered, gently.

“Yeah! That’sh the word!” the private took another long drink and Jack started to wonder if it was wise to keep buying him more. Any second now he was going to pass out and Jack would have to carry him home.

And wouldn't Ianto just love hearing that story?

Not.

“They say it’ll revothingy the way we travel,” Pat said. “If they can get it to work.”

“Why won’t it work now?” Jack gently probed.

“They don’t have co…coordi…”

“Coordinates,” Jack said.

“Yeah! Or stabil…stabilisa…”

“Stabilisation,” Jack finished. “I see.”

The private drained the last of his beer and looked at Jack, bleary-eyed. “Is that information helpful?” he asked, somehow managing to say all the words without slurring too much.

“Absolutely,” Jack said, kindly, putting a hand on his shoulder. “Thank you.”

Pat nodded and slumped onto the table, unconscious.

Jack rolled his eyes and sighed. He knew where he lived, which was a good thing. He placed his hands under his arms and lifted him up, somehow managing to carry him singlehandedly to the SUV parked outside.

He checked his watch.

Nope, definitely not getting lucky tonight.

Sunday 24th August
00:12

Jack tiptoed into the flat, cautiously, closing the door almost silently behind him. He pulled off his shoes and left them by the front door, padding into the living room with only socks on. His intention was to grab some food from the fridge then sneak into bed next to Ianto. He didn’t plan to sleep, but looked forward to lying next to the man he loved.

Which is why he almost died of a heartattack (and wouldn't that be embarrassing to do twice?) when he tripped over Ianto’s feet.

He clambered back to his feet and turned around to see that Ianto was sat on the floor, back against the sofa, his head lolled against the seat, sleeping soundly.

And he hadn’t woken when Jack had inadvertently kicked him and had his nose smashed into the floor. Which happened to really hurt, actually.

He smiled fondly at him, nonetheless, crouching down and kissing him softly on the cheek to wake him. Ianto’s eyes fluttered open and, after a moment, focussed on Jack. “Jack?” he said, groggily.

“Last time I checked,” Jack retorted. “Expecting someone else?”

Ianto glared at him. “No,” he said, irritably.

Jack grinned. “Why did you fall asleep here?”

Ianto reached around on the floor, blindly, and retrieved the landline phone. “I was talking to my sister,” he explained. “And she exhausted me. So I fell asleep.”

Jack nodded. “She does seem the type to exhaust people,” he said.

“Oi, that’s my sister you’re talking about,” Ianto said, smirking.

Jack straightened up and offered him his hand. “Come on, let’s go to bed,” he said.

“What time it is?” Ianto enquired, taking his hand and hauling himself to his feet.

Jack mumbled the time.

“What?”

“Quarter past midnight,” Jack said, more plainly, with a sigh.

Ianto dropped his hand. “Where have you been until quarter past midnight? You left the hub before me!” He wasn’t accusing Jack of anything, he knew that, but he was a little ticked off.

“I was getting information,” Jack said, with a sigh. “It doesn’t matter.” He pointedly took Ianto’s hand again and dragged him towards the bedroom. Ianto followed, almost blindly, too tired to think straight.

He climbed into bed and Jack followed suit the other side, all thought of having sex gone from his mind; Ianto was obviously too tired. He wondered what he’d been doing all day to get him so exhausted, as Ianto curled into his chest and closed his eyes. Jack realised he hadn’t actually seen him in the hub all day. He sighed and kissed his hair, reaching for his book on the bedside table, opening it one-handed and starting to read.

He didn’t absorb the words as he thought about the information he’d acquired. He’d managed to wrangle the name of the project out of the private before he had passed out; Project Indigo, apparently. He sighed once more and put the book down again on the bedside table before flicking out the light.

00:31

“Got it! Finally!”

Faith lifted her head up from the table, blinking slowly a few times to readjust to the light hitting her eyes. Had she fallen asleep? She wasn’t sure.

“What have you got, Red?” she muttered, rubbing her eyes.

“The zombie head,” Willow said. “It’s being controlled by some vampire a few miles away. The plan was to take out the Slayer.”

“And?”

Willow raised her eyebrow. “It obviously didn’t work,” she said, blandly.

“Oh. Yeah. Course.” Faith poked Spike. “Oy, vampire.”

He looked up. “Is the science-y magic-y things done with yet?”

“Yes, Spike, it’s safe to resurface. Your brain isn’t needed,” Willow said.

Spike nodded, thankfully. “So, what did you find?”

“It’s being controlled by a vampire a few miles away.” Willow sighed. “I did already say that.”

“I was asleep,” Spike pointed out. “Like Faith was.” He ran a hand over his cheek and felt a strange, long shaped indentation. He groaned. “Did I fall asleep on a pencil again?”
