The phone just rang - it was my dad's wife telling me that my dad just got out of surgery for kidney stones. He's been prone to them for several years now, but these were too large to pass. We just got back from Thanksmas - A's mom's brother hosts a family gathering between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year, usually this first weekend in December. I was late coming back from lunch today, because my brother and I had a very good talk and neither one of us wanted to stop. I was handed a genuine emergency the second I got back, though. We had a crazy, fun-filled, work-filled weekend. I got to set up my nice new table for a party, and it was terrific. My mom had a wonderful time, everyone enjoyed the food and company and conversation, and I felt really positive about the whole experience.
