We had a crazy, fun-filled, work-filled weekend. I got to set up my nice new table for a party, and it was terrific. My mom had a wonderful time, everyone enjoyed the food and company and conversation, and I felt really positive about the whole experience.
On Sunday, we went over to
dgsiii's house and worked like crazy on the tree there. Either I didn't work as hard as I thought I had, though, or I'm stronger than I think I am, because I wasn't sore at all when I got up this morning, which was surprising.
I had forgotten how much I enjoy grilling - I really had a terrific and easy time grilling stuff over charcoal for the party, and it was very well received - everything was eaten and raved over.
Nate and I made a fantastic chocolate angel food cake from
The Cake Bible by
Rose Levy Beranbaum. It was absolutely made of awesome, covered in fresh raspberries. The secret to bread is to not worry too much about what you put in it, but the secret to cakes is absolute precision with measurements and pan sizes. I have finally acquired enough of the correct tools that I can make pretty much any cake I want to, which is just lovely.
