There are 88 stone steps coming up out of the Capitol South metro station, and the other day all the up escalators stopped moving right about the time I got to their bases, so I pulled out my umbrella, put my black-n-pink backpack on my shoulders as per manufacturer's suggested usage, and gingerly walked up four flights of stairs. Yesterday evening, I got to the Capitol South subway entrance to find yellow metal gates up, and three to four cops hanging around. The entire station was closed, and the coppage directed us a block south, where they said a shuttle would come by and take us to the next open station. Best part of Roadtrip 2012 was feeding a giraffe romaine lettuce at the Milwaukee County Zoo. They extort $10 from you for the priviledge, but there is something weird and wonderful about being eye level with a giraffe intent on grabbing something out of your hand with a foot-long black tongue.
