Abdi Nuressa Kept His Cool After the Earthquake

Aug 12, 2013 11:10

I have been very very slow to post this, but this cabbie/oromo singer gave me a ride home from downtown DC the day of the 2011 earthquake, then waited patiently while I begged the Afghans across the way for cash to pay, since I had been caught out of the building with no money or house key. I was so delighted that he was game to brave the crazy traffic jam to take me home that I over-tipped and he gave me a copy of his album Irree Aasdaa (The Power of Culture).

I should note that behind the door in the corner bathroom at work is a wallboard crack which has never been fixed.

earthquakes, tribal affiliation, commuting, happy thing day, d.c., traffic, cars
