the iron dragon's daughter, and i forgot how many unlikable characters were in it. the main character vacillates between unlikable and vaguely sympathetic - a lot of shit happens to her but she manages to survive it - but a lot of the supporting characters are cruel, careless, petty, manipulative assholes, and after a ( Read more... )

yesterday my curling club had their open house. 768 people registered to show, which is a lot of people to get through the place in four hours. i volunteered to be on the ice, to help with the quickie curling instruction and supervise while people got to throw rocks and sweep. there were some spectacular falls, but no one was hurt and everyone ( Read more... )

my sister and i saw black panther last night, finally. it was a tremendous movie, i liked it a lot, and i totally get why it's gotten so much hype and hooplah. i was completely unspoiled so there were some things that surprised me, in a good way. ( spoilery! )

i finally got to watch some olympics today - about five minutes of the curling mixed doubles, which i didn't even know was a thing until this week. it has only two people on a team, instead of four, which i find so weird. i saw the norway/china match, and the norwegian team wasn't wearing interesting pants! maybe it's only the men's team that ( Read more... )
