What I just finished reading:
the iron dragon's daughter, and i forgot how many unlikable characters were in it. the main character vacillates between unlikable and vaguely sympathetic - a lot of shit happens to her but she manages to survive it - but a lot of the supporting characters are cruel, careless, petty, manipulative assholes, and after a ( Read more... )

Wow. That house. The broker says " mind blowing" and they are soo right. Was it Liberace who lived there or what? I was waiting for the dungeon-like "playroom" in the cellar and were certain at one point that we were really going down there, but then it turned out something else entirely. Not less disconcerting though. "Only shown on sunny days" indeed.

the random cafe/club in the basement was just the weirdest. i mean, i too was expecting something more sinister! i wonder why it's only being shown on sunny days, tho. is that to get the best and brightest effects from the all-white rooms? does the realtor want people to be blinded by the silver and the mirrors?

That house. Wow. "mind blowing decorative flair" indeed.

I liked that Timeless had someone other than Lucy being the expert. This was how I thought last season's Alamo episode should have gone. It never made sense for Lucy to be the expert in all things of all time, using the guy's in this sort of way made a lot of sense. (Also, *wibbles* the look we get into Wyatt and his childhood and maybe some of why he was so broken by Jessica's death *wibbles some more*)

Sorry you didn't get your snow!

i'm not sure "decorative flair" is the phrase i'd use....

i really appreciated that for once wyatt got to be the expert on a particular time period, altho of course lucy knew about nascar's origins among depression-era bootleggers, because she always has to know something. i don't generally think of bootleggers as a contemporary thing, so wyatt's bootlegging childhood read as kind of anachronistic. i'm not surprised it was a miserable childhood, tho - this isn't the show for happy healthy parent-kid relationships.

new york and pennsylvania and new jersey got all our snow! hmph.

"Engines of the Broken World" !!! I'm telling you, you must read it. PLEASE?!?!?

hatshepsut
In my mind, this reformed into "batshit", which may not be far from the truth.

What is up with that house? Delusions of royalty? I'll bet even Crazy Castle Guy in my area doesn't have statues at his bedposts...

i have other books in front of it! but i'll look for it.

there actually is a section in the book for crazy princesses, but hatshepsut was in the "princesses who ruled as kings in their own right" section. i'd hazard a guess that at least one of the crazy princesses wasn't really crazy, but was either faking it to her own advantage, or being declared crazy for someone else's advantage.

i have no idea what the deal is with that house. i'd say "temporary insanity" but i don't think it was temporary.

Is that Isabella the She Wolf of France, Edward II's wife? She was a really interesting character, I've read a few good historical novels about or featuring her. Probably the best one was by Maurice Druon (translated from the French). Margaret of Anjou was another strong woman, and of course, my personal fave, Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Eee I'd forgotten you were BBing this year... \0/

that is indeed isabella the she-wolf of france, eddie ii's wife. she seems to have been very shrewd, and i bet she makes a great character for a novel. in my head she'll always look like sophie marceau.

i am indeed bb'ing! if you pick my summary again i'll be a. VERY SURPRISED, and b. really pleased. :D
