my sister and i saw black panther last night, finally. it was a tremendous movie, i liked it a lot, and i totally get why it's gotten so much hype and hooplah. i was completely unspoiled so there were some things that surprised me, in a good way. (
spoilery! )

As for Black Panther - the more I think about all the messages in the film, the more surprised I am that it got made at all. Like you say, it's so political and pointed and I loved that about it. I love that I'm still thinking about it for that reason but that those messages were made so powerful by good storytelling and great characters. My only (slight) disappointment with the story is that they couldn't have one of the ladies take the purple heart thing and become the panther but that the women had to take the thing to a man so save Wakanda. I understand why it had to be done that way - to bring T'challa back - but yeah. That would have been an extra layer of icing on a very tasty cake.

i don't know what possessed the marvel ptb to let ryan coogler basically do whatever he wanted, but i'm glad they did. we got so many women with so many different kinds of power, i didn't even care that none of them ate the purple flower thing.

also...pig cheese. That is one of the strangest things I've ever typed. Wonder what it tastes like. I've had head cheese, which is usually made from pig, and I didn't much enjoy that experience. One would hope that pig milk cheese is better. Poor pigs.

head cheese is a totally different thing! also, ew. i applaud your bravery in tasting it, but still, ew. apparently pig's-milk cheese is saltier, creamier, and, er, grainier than cow's-milk cheese, and it melts on your tongue a little faster. and it takes FOREVER to get enough milk from the pigs. poor pigs is right.

I don't much recommend head cheese. I'm glad I tried it, because that's a hell of a thing to break out at never have I ever, but nope, not repeating it. Not even for money. Well. Depends on what they're offering.
