Sep 07, 2008 19:55

Los Hombres De Paco is returning with new episodes. Since people are having trouble getting all those pesky connections together, here's a quick cheat sheet to help you if you happen to look for the show when new eps are available:

Included are relationships, police ranks, and stuff to help you figure out who's related, who's not, and why Don Lorenzo hates Pepa so much.

The below information is only updated through season 8. Season 9 recaps and translations are handled by various sources, but your best bet for all Pepa/Silvia news is the pepa_silvia community.

TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE:
I have absolutely no problem with fans of the show linking the recaps elsewhere or using the translations as sources for subtitled clips (in fact I encourage it. The more people discover the show, the better). I do ask, however, as a favor, that there be a link back to the Who's Who master page as a credit. These recaps/translations require a massive amount of time and effort and since there's no real way of knowing who is visiting on LJ, it would really be appreciated to help me keep track. Thank you!

PREMISE:
The show Los Hombres De Paco centers around Paco, a police inspector who heads a unit of cops and inspectors in Madrid. Because most of his family is in law enforcement, much of the show is also focused on them as well.

CHARACTER GUIDE

LA FAMILIA (the family)

Don Lorenzo Castro
Relationship:Ex-Father-In-Law to Paco, Father to Silvia and Lola
Police Rank: Police Chief, head of the San Antonio Precinct
Story:
A widow, he is the head of the family and the head of the precinct. He can be a hothead, and lives by his morals and ethics, which gets him into problems when people don't behave like he thinks they should. He had a very hard time learning to accept Pepa, the estranged lesbian sister to his son-in-law Paco, but when his daughter Silvia fell in love with her, he was forced to confront his own prejudices and accept the relationship that made his daughter happy. Despite his own prejudice, Don Lorenzo is a good man, and will stop at nothing to catch the bad guy. He remains very close with his ex-son-in-law Paco, and recently nearly destroyed his career in an effort to the save the life of a young prostitute boy.

Francisco 'Paco' Miranda
Relationship:Divorced from Lola, with whom he has a daughter: Sara. Brother to Pepa
Police Rank:Inspector
Story:
A genuinely good man if a bit of a bumbling carebear at times, Paco has a tendency to lead with his heart rather than his head, which has almost cost him his badge quite a few times. When the problems in his life overwhelmed him, he put together a list of his problems, and vowed to check them off one by one. Through this list, he repaired his relationship with his wife, his daughter, and then reconnected with his little sister, Pepa, after he blamed her for their parents divorce 11 years ago.

When an affair emerged between his daughter Sara and Lucas, the man he saw as a son, Paco was vehemently against it. He has since come to accept the relationship, and even went to the great trouble of helping Lucas fake his death in order to allow him to be free to clear his name and marry his daughter Sara.

Paco has recently lost his wife in divorce after she suffered a nervous breakdown and deep depression following Sara's near death experience. He has struggled with the loss, but finds himself now reeling with the realization that his daughter is having an affair, and the realization that Mariano's ex-wife Marina Salgado, is falling in love with him.

Maria Josefina 'Pepa' Miranda
Relationship:Sister to Paco, Engaged to Silvia
Police Rank: Elite Agent (Specializes in Covert Infiltrations)
Story:

Impulsive, hot-tempered and a bit of a rascal, Pepa broke contact with her brother and her family eleven years ago, when at eighteeen, she caused a scandal at her niece's first communion by showing up in punk clothes, getting her sister-in-law Silvia high, and then making out with her on the dance floor. When her parents announced their separation the next day, she was blamed, and left the house. Nearly a decade later, after several calls from her estranged brother, they encountered each other unexpectedly when she followed a case from Sevilla to Madrid. Desperate for family and overwhelmed at the generosity of her brother, she accepted his offer to stay in Madrid and joined the San Antonio Precinct, despite the hostility from Don Lorenzo, who disagreed with her attitude and hates the fact that she's a lesbian.

Pepa's decades-old crush on her sister-in-law reasserted itself as the two resumed their intimate friendship. Pepa fell hard and fast for the red-headed Inspector. After Silvia followed her into a bathroom and seduced her, the two became romantically involved. She moved in with her after only three months. They remained in a steady relationship of more than a year. Pepa, however, was not quite ready for what Silvia has deemed the mandatory next step: children.

A night of drunken party-ing led Pepa to make Silvia a promise she did not remember the next morning. Pepa, overwhelmed by Silvia's immediate dedication to making a baby that she would have to carry, vented to her brother on a stakeout, unaware the mike was on. Everyone heard everything, and Silvia was humiliated. She shut Pepa out of her life. Pepa, desperate to make amends and win back Silvia any way possible, became obsessed with the idea of giving Silvia a baby the old fashioned way. Silvia got wind of this plan and broke up with Pepa. Pepa, destroyed, had a one night stand with a mutual friend: Sara's ex Aitor. Pepa, now homeless, moved in with Sara, who did not waste the opportunity to bring her aunts together. After a brief reconciliation, Silvia found out about Aitor and once again ended the relationship.

Pepa, however, remained desperate to win Silvia back, and after she sued Silvia to get her attention and Silvia answered with a restraining order, she employed a different tactic when it became clear Silvia wanted to be friends. She declared herself pregnant and began to flirt with every available man in the precinct, culminating kissing Curtis in front of Silvia, to prove they were not over each other. She told Silvia they would be girlfriends or nothing. But her thoughtless kiss with Curtis would have disastrous consequences, when Curtis, now believing Pepa was interested, set about trying to win her over and nearly got himself killed. Overwhelmed with guilt, Pepa was haunted, until Silvia, seeing how destroyed Pepa was over her part in Curtis' near death experience, came to comfort her at the hospital. They reconciled, and Silvia proposed shortly later.

Silvia Castro
Relationship:Sister to Lola, Engaged to Pepa, Godmother to Rita's daughter
Police Rank:Forensics Inspector
Story:

A natural leader, an undercover geek and her father's baby, Silvia grew up studying medicine but ended up in the force, supporting her father with forensics and undercover investigations at the San Antonio Precinct. While she has been successful in her career, her lovelife has been catastrophic. Her first kiss (with her sister-in-law Pepa) caused a scandal and resulted in Pepa being expelled from the family. Her first marriage, to family friend Lucas, ended in less than a year. An office romance with partner Montoya ended in disaster when she became pregnant with his baby, and then lost it when she was shot in the stomach.

Pepa unexpectedly falling back into her life sent Silvia into a tailspin. Silvia was immediately drawn to her, and old feelings reemerged as Silvia's sexual identity crumbled in the face of her attraction to her brunette sister-in-law. Though she was at first confused and frightened, she was unable to deny her feelings for Pepa, and pursued a romance with her. Silvia found herself truly in love for the first time, much to the dismay of her father. However, he learned to accept her relationship with Pepa, and gave them his blessing. Silvia found the courage to allow herself to be open about her relationship to Pepa, both to her family and to her co-workers at the precinct.

After a year with Pepa, Silvia was more happy and in love than ever, and secure enough in her relationship with Pepa to want a child with her girlfriend. She was however, unable to have children, thanks to having her uterus removed when she lost her first baby. When Pepa drunkenly agreed to a baby, Silvia's excitement overwhelmed her, and she completely missed the obvious cues that Pepa was not quite ready for a baby. When she began to immediately make plans to inseminate Pepa, Pepa panicked, and Silvia was blind-sided and horrified when she heard Pepa ranting to her brother over a police tap that she was drunk when she promised Silvia a baby and she didn't want the baby. Heart broken, and dreams dashed, Silvia closed herself off from Pepa. When Pepa tried to speak to her the next day to tell her she had changed her mind, Silvia was unable to take it and slapped her. When Pepa instinctively slapped back, Silvia attacked her.

Immeasurably hurt by Pepa's betrayel, and grieving for her lost child all over again, Silvia let her anger consume her, but found her love for Pepa devestating her completely when Sara revealed that Pepa had a plan to sleep with a past lover in order to impregnate herself and give her a baby. Silvia found Pepa and broke up with her, reminding Pepa how she had run away from her family before and telling her she was the last person she would have a family with.

Though to Pepa, her demeanor was angry, Silvia was clearly destroyed over losing the love of her life. She changed the locks and kicked Pepa out of the apartment, and once alone, got high on a marijuana joint and took a box of Pepa's things to Sara's house. Once there, she broke down in tears, unaware that Sara had invited Pepa to live with her. When Pepa showed up, she tried to leave, but Sara forced her to stay so she and Pepa could talk things out.

When Pepa admitted to Silvia that she had been afraid, just as Silvia had been afraid countless times before, Silvia began to understand Pepa's position. When Pepa asked her if she would really leave her for the only moment of fear that Pepa had ever had, Silvia tearfully shook her head no and joyfully reunited with her lover.

Her happiness, however, was shortlived when Silvia overheard a message from Pepa asking Sara not to say anything to Silvia about sleeping with Aitor. When Pepa returned, she confirmed Silvia's fears, and Silvia was once again broke off the relationship. She remained steadfast in her determination to ignore Pepa, though she missed Pepa terribly. When she could not do that, she asked instead to be friends. Pepa disagreed, and told Silvia she would only be with her as her girlfriend. When Pepa was involved in a near death experience with their colleague, and was traumatized from the event, Silvia found herself no longer able to ignore her feelings for her ex-girlfriend and went to the hospital to be with her. There, they reconciled. Silvia proposed soon after. Pepa said yes.

Lola Miranda
Relationship:Divorced from Paco, sister to Silvia, mother to Sara
Police Rank:Civilian - currently living in Barcelona
Story:
The daughter of a cop, the wife of a cop, the sister of a cop, and now, the mother of a cop, Lola struggles daily with the life and death issues surrounding her. When Sara chose to follow in her father's footsteps, Lola protested mightily, fully aware that her daughter's reckless abandon would get her into dangerous situations as a constable. Feeling neglected by Paco, she nearly fell into an affair with her husband's best friend Mariano, but rejected his advances, still very much in love with her husband. She was often the support and strength of the family, and the one everyone turns to when they need advice, but the result was a long suffering civilian who saw everyone she loved nearly die at least once. The final straw was imagining Sara's bloody wedding day. After a nervous breakdown and a deep depression, Lola decided she had to get away from her cop family, and so she divorced Paco and now lives in Barcelona, rebuilding her strength.

Sara Fernandez
Relationship:Daughter to Paco & Lola, married to Lucas, niece to Pepa & Silvia
Police Rank: Constable (unofficial agent)
Story:
Impulsive and headstrong, Sara is prone to rash actions and temper tantrums. The baby of the house, she worships her father and mother, and is adored by her aunts and her grandfather. As a child, she fell in love with Lucas, the man her father saw like a son, and Silvia's ex-husband. No one approved of the relationship, and things ended badly. Months later, when they decided to try again, Sara begged Lucas to keep it a secret from their family, unable to bear more family interference. This quickly came in handy when Lucas got in trouble with the law, and Sara began to actively help him evade the cops and rescue his kidnapped sister. She was arrested for aiding and abbetting, but was released after receiving a message from Lucas and agreeing to cooperate.

When she discovered Lucas was not really dead, Sara went with him to hide out in a beach town. There, they resolved to marry, but Lucas' location was discovered by the very band of thugs he was hiding from, and while he was away trying to bring down their leader, the Kaiser herself visited Sara. They fought, and Sara was shot in the stomach. She made it to her wedding to Lucas, but collapsed soon after she said her vows.

Sara survived the event, and now lives happily married to Lucas, despite the fact that she encouraged Lucas to take a job that would take him to the United States for months. She has been kept busy, however, since her husband went away. Most of her time was devoted to supporting her two beloved aunts Silvia and Pepa as they weathered a crisis and break up in their relationship, but when her aunts reconciled, Sara found herself falling into an affair with her old boyfriend Aitor. Now, she's not sure who she wants, sleeping with Aitor as Lucas prepares to come back from the CIA.

Lucas Fernandez
Relationship:'Adopted' son to Paco, newlywed husband to Sara, Silvia's ex-husband
Police Rank: Director of Special Forces with Central Intelligence - currently training in New York
Story:
After his father was murdered in the line of duty, Lucas was taken in by Paco, and raised like his son. He is the lead agent in Paco's team, and desperately in love with Sara, Paco's daughter. While on an undercover assignment to infiltrate a gang (led by an unknown entity called The Kaiser), Lucas' cover was blown and his sister was kidnapped. Forced to act as a spy for the gang in order to keep his sister alive, Lucas soon found himself scrambling to keep the cops off of him by destroying evidence and tampering. When internal affairs finally caught up to him, Lucas was forced to go on the run, and the ultimate disaster occured when he entered a van and it blew up.

This was later proven to be a ruse created by Lucas, Mariano and Paco, to allow Lucas to be free to pursue the Kaiser and clear his name. He reunited with Sara and they resolved to marry, but on the day of his wedding, he discovered the plans of the Kaiser and went with Paco and his men to stop them. He parachuted off a plane and made it to his wedding, only to have his new bride collapse in his arms, revealing a bullet wound in her stomach.

Sara survived, but Lucas swore never to put her in harm's way again. When he was offered an illustrious job with the government, he turned it down and took a job as a professor instead. Sara, however, convinced him he could never be anyone but himself, and he took the job and left San Antonio, safe in the knowledge that his young wife will be waiting for him when he turns.

That was not the case, however, as Lucas does not know that his young wife has begun a very public affair with her old boyfriend, Aitor.

LOS HOMBRES DE PACO(Paco's men and others)

Mariano Moreno
Relationship:Paco's best friend and right hand man
Police Rank:SubInspector
Story:
Insecure about his weight, but ultimately kind hearted, Mariano is like a brother to Paco. He is unlucky in love always falling for the wrong person, like Paco's wife, Lola. Alas, his love was unrequited, and after a series of other mishaps, he thought he had found true love in a secret affair with Central Commander Marina Salgado, but after a year together, things went sour for Mariano, who could not abide her bossy ways. Too afraid to hurt her, Mariano ended up marrying her, only for her to leave him the next day when she discovered he never wanted to marry her to begin with. Now, Salgado is back and indifferent to him, and Mariano isn't sure how he feels about it.

Jose Luis Povedilla
Relationship:Ex-Partner to Rita (with whom he shares a daughter)
Police RankRecently Promoted to Official Agent
Story:
A timid man with glasses, Povedilla finds himself being used most often for infiltrations due to his ability to blend, and genuine smarts. One went very bad when he infiltrated a prison and was raped. He has since worked through the trauma with the help of his teammates and wife, Rita. He has also gained a fast friend in Silvia, his superior, when he discovered her secret affair with Pepa and helped her keep the secret while she worked out her feelings. Recently, he has finally been promoted to an official agent with a badge, the culmination of a dream for him. After a traumatic incident on a plane, Povedilla went on a pilgrimage. There, he had a revelation that although he loved Rita, he was no longer in love with her. He left her, only to realize that he actually did love her, and he had made a tragic mistake. It may be too late for Povedilla, however, as she now has eyes for pretty boy Montoya.

Rita Pelaez
Relationship:Ex-Partner to Povedilla, Montoya's girlfriend
Police Rank:Official Agent
Story:
For a long time, she was the lone female in Paco's squad and therefore seems doomed to be 'one of the boys' when she desperately wants to be seen as a sex symbol like Pepa or Silvia. A working mother, she sometimes is a little too ambitious for her own good, particularly when it comes to her obsession of going undercover as a prostitute, but maintains a kind heart and a great attitude. She was recently left by her partner, Povedilla, but they remain great friends. Povedilla has fallen back in love with Rita, but she has instead fallen hard for friend and colleague Gonzalo Montoya.

Gonzalo Montoya
Relationship:Second-In-Command to Don Lorenzo, Silvia's ex, Rita's current boyfriend
Police Rank:Chief Inspector
Story:
The 'perfect' officer, Montoya has a habit of being so good at his job, he makes Paco's men look like a joke. He was in love with Silvia for ages, but when she finally noticed him, the affair went badly, and she dumped him twice. When he discovered Silvia lost the baby he had never known he had, he was devastated. At the same time, it was revealed that the woman he was currently in love with, Ruth, was also a member of the gang responsible and she betrayed him to take the precinct hostage. The situation grew too much for Montoya, and he relapsed into his alcoholism. Silvia, aware something was wrong, pressured him into admitting it, and with her help, he became sober. When he tried to reignite things between them, however, Silvia rejected him.

It was love at first sight for him when he met Pepa, and the puppy-love sort of crush for her made him oblivious to the fact that Pepa is a lesbian and is in love with Silvia. He discovered the truth on a mission to catch the Kaiser, in which he witnessed an obsenely intimate moment between Pepa and Silvia. Shocked and dismayed, (though whether it is because of losing Silvia or Pepa is unclear), kind-hearted Montoya nevertheless gave an obviously insecure Silvia a gentle smile of support for the fledgling relationship. He has yet to dip his feet back in the dating pool, and instead remains fast friends with both Pepa and Silvia. He developed an increasingly fuzzy friendship with Rita, which crossed over into love for them both.

Nelson Amadeu
Relationship:In Paco's Unit
Police RankConstable (no badge)
Story:
The rookie of the squad, Nelson was hired onto the force after an incident left the precinct with a reputation for being racist. So far, he's very very green and very very earnest, but not all that bright.

Curtis Naranjo
Relationship:In Paco's Unit
Police Rank:Agent
Story:
A semi-competent cop when he's not getting distracted with hijinks, Curtis refused to cut his hair after he survived a gunshot that should have left him dead. Though he can be a horndog, he still remains a decent guy and extremely loyal to his co-workers. He remains best friends with Kike, although the fact that Kike is gay and obviously in love with him has caused a couple panic attacks on his end, and although his crush on Pepa was short-lived upon the realization that she was gay and gunning for Silvia, he was one of the first to silently support the lesbian relationship. When Pepa and Silvia broke up, however, Curtis found his long buried feelings bubbling up when Pepa kissed him unexpectedly. Unaware that this was a ploy by Pepa to make Silvia jealous, Curtis fell in love with her, and egged on by best friend Kike, put together a plan to impress her by taking her on what he thought was a fake stake out. The result was him getting shot four times in the stomach. On his deathbed, he confessed his love for Pepa. Overwhelmed with guilt, Pepa lied and told him she reciprocated his feelings. He survived the event, but believed Pepa loved him. When he discovered Pepa was still sleeping with Silvia, he tried to instigate a threesome between them, to keep Pepa by any means necessary, but was hit with the hard truth that Pepa never really loved him. Faced with this fact, Curtis let her go, and remains instead one of her best friends.

Kike Gallardo
Relationship:In Paco's Unit
Police Rank Agent
Story:
Curtis' partner-in-crime, Kike is a loyal man in Paco's unit, who does well when he's not the one in charge. He is best friends with Curtis, and because he is gay, often has trouble with unresolved feelings for his best mate. Despite that, he remains one of the guys, and the original redhead of the group.

Aitor Carrasco
Relationship:In Paco's Unit, Ex-Boyfriend to Sara
Police RankConstable (no badge)
Story:
Despite his good intentions, Aitor has a mischievous side that gets him into trouble when he succumbs to becoming a part of the Paco's hijinks. He's unlucky in love - after he fell for Sara, she left him for his hero Lucas, and his rebound with Lucas' sister Carlotta was ill fated when she was kidnapped and taken to Buenos Aires.

Aitor had a friendly relationship with Agent Pepa Miranda that got murky very quickly when Pepa, estranged from her girlfriend Silvia and desperate to give her barren lover a baby, asked him to sleep with her for his sperm. Aitor was insulted and incensed, and although the two later agreed the plan was foolish and had no merit, Aitor reconsidered the idea when he witnessed Silvia sobbing in the bathroom over her lost love and baby. When he found Pepa sobbing uncontrollably the same night, Aitor could not stand the pair's suffering and kissed Pepa, unaware that Pepa was drunk and had just been dumped by Silvia. They ended up sleeping together, but it was just a one night stand. Pepa, as always, is in love with Silvia, and Aitor has fallen into an affair with his lost love Sara.

Commander Marina Salgado
Relationship:Central Intelligence Officer, ex-fiance to Mariano
Police RankCommander
Story:
When the police station began to suspect their office had a leak, they sent in Marina. She is tough and relentless in her pursuit of both Lucas and Sara, and as such is seen as the office bitch. She is however, privately tortured by her role in the events, and when Mariano shows her kindness, she finds herself falling for him. After the events of the Kaiser unfolded, Salgado put aside her vendetta against Lucas and instead offered him a job. When she mistakenly believed Mariano had proposed, she was thrilled and married him. She was devastated to learn he never really loved her, and left him.

When the San Antonio Precinct got involved in a case with the Italian mob, Marina returned to help with the case. She spent a lot of time with Paco, and fell in love with him in the process.
