What a week it has been. This is not a bad thing; a lot of good things happened/got done. Breaking it down would probably be easiest:

I've managed to fill 5 bankers' boxes with various items to begin de-cluttering and de-personalizing the house, starting with my office. My figures are all packed up. My desk is looking rather spartan. All our CDs are packed up, save for those in Z's room and those that I want to rip before packing. We talked to our loan officer today about what our funding options are. Since our plan is to sell the house soon, a refinance isn't likely to happen, or to be of any real benefit to us. We've got the ball rolling, talking to the developers and a loan officer, and finding out where we stand with everything. Our furnace is now repaired, and gas-powered heat once again fills our home. This is good, because electric heat tripped our breakers twice last night (most notably when I plugged in my monster of a laptop; oops). We just dropped $5,275 on a new roof (mostly a cross between insurance money and a home improvement loan). Of course, that means something else just has to be replaced. It wouldn't be right if we didn't have something else require maintenance when we're low on money ( Read more... )

Our roof, the final project on our list of big home repair/replacement items from November, is being redone tomorrow, with a new garage door coming on Tuesday (this needed to be done; you could see daylight through some of the non-window panels). The good news: our washing machine is fixed. The repairman replaced the water pump (and recommended that I not attempt to diagnose the problem myself in the future), and we were able to get the first home-washed load of laundry in almost two months done last night ( Read more... )
