Our furnace is now repaired, and gas-powered heat once again fills our home. This is good, because electric heat tripped our breakers twice last night (most notably when I plugged in my monster of a laptop; oops). We just dropped $5,275 on a new roof (mostly a cross between insurance money and a home improvement loan). Of course, that means something else just has to be replaced. It wouldn't be right if we didn't have something else require maintenance when we're low on money ( Read more... )

The good news: our washing machine is fixed. The repairman replaced the water pump (and recommended that I not attempt to diagnose the problem myself in the future), and we were able to get the first home-washed load of laundry in almost two months done last night ( Read more... )

Our roof needs to be replaced. It's not leaking - yet - but it's very worn and starting to fall apart. Fortunately, insurance is going to cover it, so the next step is to get a couple of estimates from roofers and get the work done before winter comes.
