Mermaid Underbust Finished
I finished my latest corset today, an underbust for me inspired by the steely British seaside. I used some of the techniques I learnt from Jenni Hampshire at the Embellishment Masterclass at the Sew Curvy Studio (best day out ever!). I need to add prettier lacing (it's en route) and then wear it.

Corset for someone other than me!
Last week I posted a corset to Las Vegas and thankfully it arrived safe and sound this week. I made it for my sister so this was my first experience of distance fitting and working to someone else's brief. Another dress and a corset in the making
Things have been very quiet on the corsetry front for a few weeks now and I am starting to get agitated. I sometimes find taking a break after a big project helps me get in a good head space to tackle something new. My first distance fitting (using a pattern I drafted myself) was a surprising success. Corsetry Break + craftsy.com course = dress
I've been taking a small break from corsetry after finishing my DPP entry. I'm testing my distance fitting skills on my sister who lives in Las Vegas. I just got her measurements this week so will start drafting her pattern but in the mean time I have been improving my general sewing skills.

It's Finished! :o)
I put the final finishes to my corset dress this week and decided on a name; Iceberg Corset Dress. Not very imaginative but I'm happy with it. :o)
Just need to get my e-mail entry done and I will be finished and very ready to move on to my next project. I abandoned a half-finished corset back in October when I started this project so I should go ( Read more... ) -
Progress made, but not sure I'll make the deadline!
Update on my progress
I managed to get started on my final piece before Christmas, and thank goodness I did! I have started to get that slightly anxious feeling that I don't quite have enough time to get it finished and photographed in time for February 6th.

Finally started!

This week I finally found some time (in amongst planning Christmas and all it brings with 3 kids and a husband!) to make a start on my final corset for the DPP 2011. Toile #3
Although I was quite happy with the fit (aesthetically) of toile #2, it was exceptionally restrictive to wear; could not even walk down stairs and if I dropped something, I could not pick it up!
Now I am quite happy to exchange some level of comfort for style but this was just a step too far!

Toile #2
This week I have made a second toile for the DPP 2011. I took the pattern from toile #1 but this time used the construction methods I intend to use for the final corset. The bust and back gores are much smoother this time; many thanks to Julia B for explaining a new technique to me.
