Another dress and a corset in the making

Things have been very quiet on the corsetry front for a few weeks now and I am starting to get agitated. I sometimes find taking a break after a big project helps me get in a good head space to tackle something new. My first distance fitting (using a pattern I drafted myself) was a surprising success. The fit was lovely and the proportions worked well too. The only sticking point is that the client (my sister) has lost weight so a general smallening of everything is required. It was such a challenge for me to draft a pattern from measurements only, I have always made corsets for myself which allows as many fittings and pattern tweaking as I please. I am now just plotting my plan of attack with the fabrics, construction techniques etc ready to start after the Easter hols.

In the mean time, I have been busying myself with another dressmaking project. I took another craftsy course; The Couture Dress taught by Susan Khalje. It has been a revelation! Oh my, how I love the couture approach to dressmaking and the techniques and the hand finishing. It has really been a joy and I have learnt so much. I think a lot of it is really relevant to my corsetry too and I hope to one day have the skills to make a truly couture corseted creation.

Anyways, here are a few pictures of the dress so far. I am part way through putting the lining in and then it will be finished. The main fabric is silk underlined with a drapey silk organza and it is lined in silk charmeuse.
