Prologue:

Their relationship was crumbling. They both knew it, but neither of them found it in themselves to care enough to do anything about it. Not anymore. The only things that kept them from breaking apart completely were whispers of memories long past and nearly forgotten promises. There were no more kisses, hugs or smiles, just nods of greetings and occasional small talk.

Brown eyes opened slowly as the sound of the front door was heard opening and a person dragged his feet into the apartment. Again? How many times has he done this in the past week? He glanced over as the figure crawled under the covers and went to sleep without uttering a word. Wrinkling his nose at the heavy scent of perfume, he turned and tried to block out the smell by using his pillow. The least he could do is shower; he doesn’t even try to hide it anymore.

Oddly enough, he felt nothing but indifference. At first, he couldn’t help but feel hurt by the petty excuses and lack of attention from the other. After awhile, he had grown used to it, the other stopped giving excuses altogether and he stopped taking notice. When he noticed this, he reached a very simple conclusion. They had fallen out of love. He glanced over again before gave a soft huff and closed his eyes, letting sleep take over him. He didn’t care. Not anymore.

---------

The sound of his alarm blaring caused his eyes to snap open before wincing at the brightness of the sunlight outside. He blinked a couple times and rubbed his eyes. Looking over, he turned off his alarm and got out of bed and headed for the showers. He turned back and looked at the still-sleeping figure in bed; he could wake him up later. He brushed his teeth, showered, and changed. After he got himself all ready for work, he headed back into the bedroom and sighed, “oi, Akanishi, get up.”

The figure in bed opened his eyes groggily, he let out a groan and threw the covers off of himself. He continued standing by the doorway, rolling his eyes. That’s what you get for staying out all night. “Kamenashi…? What time is it?”

“Time to get up, you have an hour before you’re late,” he muttered, turning around and heading into the kitchen. He doesn’t even remember when they degraded back into surname basis. Kazuya shrugged it off and finished off his meal, “I’m heading out first.” It didn’t matter whether the person in the showers heard him or not, it was a daily routine already.

He slipped his sunglasses on and walked out the apartment, not bothering to lock the door. As usual, he arrived on time whereas Jin arrived a bit late. They greeted each other, rehearsed and joked around as usual. There was, surprisingly to the others, no awkward tension between them, even though they spent more time with others than each other. They were still friends, more or less. During their break, Kazuya would wander over to where Junno was gaming and sat down to watch while Jin conversed with Ueda. Maru and Koki who were off to the side exchanged glances but said nothing of it.

The other two noticed too, but none of them wanted to bring up the topic incase of upsetting one of them. It didn’t seem to bother them; they could have random periods where they’d ignore each other completely for no particular reason. The rest of the band tried asking about it a couple times only to be answered with clueless stares from the two. So they figured, if they weren’t going to talk about it, they wouldn’t ask. Anyways, everything seemed to be going fine the way it was.

After practice was over, everyone went their separate ways back home. Kazuya looked over, slightly surprised to see that Jin had driven his car to work. Maybe this is it…he pursed his lip lightly, chest tightening just a bit, he took one last look and walked down the street with a “see you later.”

The taller male glanced back and gave a slight nod as he headed to his car, “yea…see you later…”

-------------------

Later that night, after he finished his dinner, Kazuya walked towards the other’s desk. The mess was still there, but certain things that Jin wouldn’t have left without weren’t. He’s gone then…without saying anything either. Suddenly, the apartment felt a little bigger and a little emptier. Shaking it off, he headed for the showers. It wasn’t as though he was still in love with the older man. Not anymore.

While he showered, he thought about calling Ryo, the person that he confided in just as Jin did with Yamapi. Tomorrow, I’ll tell him tomorrow. He wanted to at least make sure that the other wasn’t going to come back; otherwise, he’d get an earful from the yellow ranger.

With a towel around his waist, he walked around the silent apartment, shivering slightly at the sudden chill. Deciding that it wasn’t the best idea to walk with nothing but a towel on, he changed into his boxers and flopped onto the bed, his bed.

Though he was tired, he couldn’t help but to stare at the empty space beside him, the unused pillow beside his head. He reached over and grabbed the pillow, hugging it to his chest. It didn’t smell purely of Jin, there were faint scents from the places he went to, the people he hung out with till early in the morning lingering on the head rest. Weary eyes blinked a couple times before closing, fighting back sudden, unexpected tears. Suddenly, realization dawned on him, and he couldn’t help but feel something similar to an overwhelming sense of grief. His arms tightened a bit more around the pillow.

I don’t want it to end like this…

-------------------

The phone rang, Kazuya glared at the clock, it wasn’t time for work yet. It couldn’t be, it was still extremely dark out and the clock read 4:21 in bold red. He reached over and picked up the phone on his nightstand, “…hello…?”

The voice on the other line hesitated for a moment, “is this Akanishi Jin’s household?”

Waking up a little more, he opened his eyes and sat up a little, “…yes? Is something wrong?”

“Akanishi-san was just in a car accident, he’s at the hospital right now…”

A/N: Yep...clearly I've watched too many dramas. Still rather devastated at how Uchi might not be able to return to Kanjani8 or NewS, even though I enjoy the attention Ryo's giving to Ohkura and Yamapi. =P Hmm...first JE fic, wonder how this will go...thanks for reading. =]
