Chapter 10:

Kame frowned and shook the other a little harder, unable to get out of his embrace, “Jin, wake up, you’re having a nightmare.”

Tear laced eyelashes fluttered as the elder’s eyes opened slowly, “…Kame?”

“You were having a nightmare so I woke you up, it’s about time to get up anyways…” he blinked when, instead of letting go of him, the other tightened his embrace. “Jin? Are you alright?”

“Yea…let’s just …can we just stay like this for a bit?”

His gaze softened as the he wrapped his arms around the other, “yea…yea we can…”

-------------------

While they were eating breakfast, Jin had cheered up immensely compared to earlier. He grinned and announced to the younger man, “I thought of a confession!”

Kame looked up from his breakfast, “Hm?”

“Remember how after we filmed Gokusen, I couldn’t get any sleep and ended up sleeping over at your place?”

“Yea…you said something about having noisy neighbors.”

“Oh…well I lied, not that I can blame me, I mean you probably would’ve laughed in my face if I’d told you that I couldn’t sleep due to nightmares.”

He blinked, “What nightmares?”

“You know how in the last episode, the one where you almost get killed?” He rubbed the back of his neck and laughed nervously, “this is so embarrassing…the nightmares I got were all the same. They were all where Nakama-san didn’t make it in time and you…well you know…die.”

-------------------------

“Ryu…” He snarled as Kudou looked over at him and shot him one of his smiles before grabbing one of his follower’s metal bar. “Stop it…” he winced when someone sat on his back and pulled his hair, forcing him to watch.

The ex-student raised the pole over his friend’s body, his eyes widened as the rod made its way down, “Stop it!”

But unlike the script, no one bursts through the door right on time. All there was, was a sickening sound of flesh and bones being broken, and a quiet gasp. The whole warehouse goes silent and the world stops turning for a moment.

“Ryu!”

With the adrenaline flowing through his veins, he throws the man off him and heads straight for a surprised looking Kudou. He punches the older man in the face and sends him and his weapon flying.

Hayato kneels down beside Ryu, who is having troubles getting air into his lungs. He rolls his friend onto his back, he could see a puddle of blood slowly form around the other, “Ryu…oh god, don’t worry, we’ll get you to a doctor, they’ll fix you right up, you’ll be alright.”

“Hayato…” it shattered his heart to hear Ryu speak with such a weak voice.

He looked down, “What?”

His friend gave a soft smile and held up his pinky, without thinking about it, he linked their little fingers together. Their rings clinking against each other, “sorry…”

Hayato’s eyes widened, “What are you talking about!? Don’t go and apologize for no reason!”

But he knew what Ryu was apologizing for.

Sorry for not being able to graduate with you.

Tears were trailing down his cheek as he watched his friend fight for air, “Ryu, don’t worry alright? We’ll get you through this. Don’t give up. We’re graduating together alright? You promised! Ryu…you…I…I…” he couldn’t choke out anymore words as he tightened his hold on his dying friend.

Everything that happened afterwards was a blur, Yankumi coming in, beating Kudou into a bloody pulp, everyone yelling. The only thing he remembers clearly is when Ryu’s hand goes limp and falls from his. The fight ends and everyone gathers around him, the words that come out of their mouths are incoherent. He catches someone calling his name before everything turns black.

----------------------------

“So basically I die and you wake up…?” Kame watched as the other turned away heatedly, avoiding eye contact. His lips curled upwards as he held back a laugh, “I wouldn’t have laughed at you…for too long. That’s what you were dreaming about just now?”

Still visibly flustered, he shook his head, refusing to meet the other’s eyes, “Just now? No, but it was just fit in with the topic of nightmares.”

“Then what was it that got you all worked up like that,” he asked a little softer.

Jin turned back around and faced the other, “hm? I don’t really remember actually, but if it’s as bad as you’re making it seem right now…it could very well be that I was having nightmares about our old hair, especially mine and Nakamaru’s. Actually, none of our hair was all that great back then, not even yours.”

“Hey,” he protested, half laughing, “it was still better than yours!”

He grinned, “That might be true, but you have to admit, that’s a pretty creepy nightmare.”

“I somehow doubt that’s creepy enough to make you cry in your sleep.”

“Oh, I was crying?” He gave a small shrug, “Well if that’s the case…maybe I was having a nightmare about you leaving me, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Kame gave a scoff, “you have the dumbest nightmares.”

“How are they dumb!? I happen to get very scared at the thought of you leaving me.”

“You don’t even remember what the nightmare actually was.”

The elder stuck his nose up and huffed, “well if I was crying, then it was probably you leaving me one way or another. It’s my deep dark secret…or it used to be. Hm, what do you know, another confession…”

He rolled his eyes and said stubbornly, “They’re still really dumb nightmares.”

“Hey! You’re supposed to find it touching!”

“I do!” the two looked equally surprised at his immediate reaction; Kazuya looked down and pretended to be annoyed, he muttered, “How many times do I have to tell you? I’m not going to leave you so you can stop having those nightmares.”

Jin raised a brow, “What if there was a freak accident?”

“Then that’s unavoidable.”

“But you’d still be leaving me.”

“Fine, I’ll rephrase it: I’m not going to leave you on my own free will, I’ll always be there for you, alright?”

Jin raised a brow and asked rather childishly, “You promise?”

He nodded, “Yea, I promise.”

“And who are you saying this as?”

“What?”

“I mean, are you promising me this as my friend, band mate or…boyfriend?”

Kame shot him a smile before getting up to dump the dishes in the sink, “I’m saying this as all three, now hurry up, don’t want to be late for the first day of practice.”

Jin watched as the other grabbed his wallet and cell phone and rushed towards the door, with a smile gracing his features, he got up and followed.

----------------------------

The first half of practice went as it always had, much to Jin’s disappointment. He sighed, “So much for special treatment and taking it easy…”

Ueda looked over, lowering his water bottle from his lips, “what were you expecting? We’re in Johnny’s Entertainment.”

“Point taken,” he figured he couldn’t really complain, especially after recalling how Kame had nearly killed himself flipping off the stage and getting nothing more than a shot before getting shoved back onto the stage. But either way, he still wanted sympathy, just a bit, so he decided to call his best friend.

When someone picked up on the other line he grinned and immediately launched into his strange and rather complex greeting, “hello best friend Pi, boyfriend to good friend Ryo-chan, best friend to boyfriend Kame-chan.”

There was a pause before a bored voice answered him, “hello fat idiot Jin, best friend to equally idiotic boyfriend Pi, good friend to equally idiotic Kamenashi. Call the right person next time.”

He blinked and stared at his phone, “Huh? Ryo-chan? What are you doing on Pi’s phone?”

“You dialed the wrong number.”

Jin looked at his phone, there it was, Nishikido Ryo-chan♥, “oh…that’s weird, I could’ve sworn I called Pi. Oh well, I guess I naturally associate you with Pi or something, it can’t be helped.”

“What do you want? Or should I hang up so you can talk to idiot number two.”

In the background there was Pi laughing, “Why am I idiot number two? Shouldn’t I be the first one?”

“You’re just a bit less idiotic than Jin.”

“You’re so sweet.”

“Hey! I’m still on the phone!”

“So you want to talk to Pi?”

“Hi Jin! Talk to me!”

“No…I guess you’ll do-”

He was cut off as Ryo bluntly stated, “If you were looking for sympathy, hang up now and call Pi.”

“Oh…okay…bye…”

“Actually, don’t call, break’s over, just come over at lunch or something.”

With that said, the younger man hung up on him.

----------------------------

At lunch, Jin found himself following his friend’s instructions and headed off to the NEWS break room. And he dragged Kame along just incase there was any need to pacify anyone, especially Ryo. “Where are we going?”

“To go see Pi and Ryo-chan.”

“Why do I have to come?”

“Because you promised me that you weren’t going to leave me.”

“But that doesn’t mea-”

“Shh, we’re here…”

When he slowly opened the door, he found the room to be strangely quiet except for a slurping noise which came unmistakably from someone’s lunch.

Jin stuck his head inside and looked around, Koyama and Shige weren’t in the room, he figured that it was probably their turn in the broom closet. Massu was probably out getting seconds, which meant the remaining three were…

He held his breath and stepped into the room, Kame following close behind him. The atmosphere was strangely tense for a room that only contained three people, three quiet people.

The slurping continued.

The elder frowned, “Pi…?”

No reply.

He walked around and headed towards the couch only to find a hand hanging limply off the armrest, his eyes widened as he whispered to the other, “oh my god, someone killed Ryo-chan…do you think they killed Pi too?”

The slurping continued.

“Hey Jin…?”

“It’s okay Kame, we’ll find you another friend, what about Tegoshi?”

“Jin…”

“No? Actually he might be the killer…never mind. What about Ueda, you guys could have sleepovers and braid each others’ hair.”

“Jin.”

“Still no? Actually, I’m going to need a new friend too hm?”

“Jin.”

“What?”

He looked over at the direction the singer pointed towards to find his best friend seated there, slurping away at his ramen. Yamapi showed no signs indicating that he was aware of the KAT-TUN members’ presences. He just sat there, slurping and looking aggravated.

The two made their way over to the oblivious singer and turned to look at what he was upset about. On the couch, there was Ryo, asleep against the armrest and Tegoshi, also asleep, and using the older man’s lap as a pillow. There was nothing strangely out of place, so Jin looked over, “Pi? You don’t normally look like this when you’re eating… Does your stomach hurt?”

Yamapi slurped up more noodles without taking his eyes away from the two on the couch, “No, I’m being jealous.”

He stared at his best friend, “Jealous of what? Tegoshi? Seriously? Doesn’t this happen almost everyday?”

Pi continued his glaring and slurping, “Yea…”

“Then why are you being jealous now?”

“I’m practicing.”

“What?”

The singer’s distressed expression was immediately replaced with a lighthearted smile, “It’s always good to practice incase something ever happens. I was going to do more but I didn’t want to wake them up. Aren’t they just so cute?”

The two gave a sigh, partially of relief, and partially of exasperation. Kame shook his head, he should’ve known better. Jin placed his hands on his hips and frowned, “I actually thought you were being unnecessarily jealous…”

His friend gave a grin, “That means I’m getting good then, right? What are you two doing here?”

Kame looked over and pointed to the other, “Jin’s here to talk to you. And I’m here to…I don’t know, he dragged me here.”

Jin nodded, “If I’d known Ryo-chan was asleep…but yea, I’ll make it up to you, I’ll go buy you a drink okay?” The youngest of the three gave a shrug and sat down on the counter beside Pi. The singer gave a wave and gestured for his friend to follow him out of the room, “come on already. I’ll be back in a minute, Kame.”

“Sure…take your time.”

He watched as the elder two left the room before turning his attention back to the two on the couch, “Ryo-chan…I know you’re awake.”

There was a snort from the other but not wanting to wake the youngest member up, he didn’t move, “well I was asleep until you two walked in and started talking about replacing me.”

“That was all Jin.”

“Yea whatever, how’d you know I was awake?”

Kame raised a brow, “you were grinning and you never grin like that in your sleep.”

Ryo opened his eyes and stared at him, “and how would you know?”

“Clearly you’ve never looked at the photos in Pi’s phone.”
