“You should really go to a hospital for that.” Taemin sounded concerned and motioned to his own face and shoulder area then pointing generally in the same area on Sayu.

“It’s fine, their protocol is not much different than what we have done. I just want to go home and…” She trailed off, turning to look out the window away from Taemin. They were riding in the back of a taxi, on their way to where Sayu was staying with the three vampires. She had gauze taped to her face with blood seeping through, and on her shoulder the fabric was torn, showing more gauze taped to her skin there.

The complexity of what happened was being played over in her head over and over and she was having a hard time processing it. It was much like when she was first bonded, that initial confusion completely crippled her. Sayu isn’t used to being able to think that quickly in a high stakes situation, only if she’s prepared and informed and not being grabbed or hit with a champagne glass.

She leaned her forehead on the glass, it was cool to her irritated skin. “Thank you, for helping. That was stupid of me.”

“Yeah.” He started talking fast, “And I was late and couldn’t stop you and you went in the meeting anyway and then,” he took a breath, “I wasn’t any help until after things got serious. Besides being in a giant apartment on top of a ritzy hotel with a bunch of vampires that were just playing nice so you could talk with the vampire that wants to kill you, to get back at Jonghyun and that-“

“Thanks I don’t need reminding.”

“Yeah you do so maybe you’ll stop doing stupid things. It’s like suddenly you’re reckless and-“

“And gasping for air because the next one I take might be my last? Yes, that is exactly what I’m doing.” Sayu was still facing away but she could see the reflection in the window of Taemin glaring at her. She sighed and looked to him as she said, “You should know what sort of trouble I’m in and I should tell you that this was the best time to speak with her.”

“She could have killed you.”

“It was in the cards, but she knows how to play the game, too. I’m not ‘ripe for killing yet,’ is what I’m getting at.” She completed the quote with her fingers, “We talked about that while you were out. She hurt me only because she wanted a viable excuse for you lashing out at her and us escaping without making it look like she let me go to die another day.” Sayu leaned back against the glass, “So next time I see her I might die.”

“I can’t believe I’m saying this but… I don’t think Jonghyun will let you die. On purpose.”

Sayu looked over to him with a small grin, “I’m really glad you hit her.”

“Yeah that was pretty bad ass.” He smiled.
