Chapter 24 - Action vs Reaction
Flashback
Changmin, Yoochun and the bodyguard got inside Changmin’s car with the thug, while Eric followed closely behind.
As they were turning into another street, police sirens were heard. Changmin cursed.
-Shit! Guess we really got out of there just in time.
End of flashback
...
Changmin sighs in relief when he turns the car onto the road leading up to the house. He can see Eric right behind him. He looks at the thug on the back seat. The man still looks calm, even with a bullet in his shoulder, his hands cuffed and with Yoochun pointing a gun at him, which doesn’t sit well with the young bodyguard. However he took every precaution on the way over and is sure they were not followed.
The house gate is in sight.
Suddenly three cars show up from the middle of the trees. One crosses the road in front of them, the other on the back and the third one just drives against Changmin’s car, who is left with no room to avoid the collision.
Armed men start shooting from all cars, forcing the bodyguards to duck low for cover.
-Fuck! I am almost out of ammo. - Screamed Yoochun as he started to return fire.
Changmin tells the guard next to him to phone the house as he starts shooting to try and keep the attackers at a distance.
…
Inside the house, Junsu is still checking the cameras while surfing the internet. He picks up the phone.
-Send guards outside. Hurry! We’re under attack.
Junsu recognizes the guard’s voice and zooms in on the outside cameras. They cover little of the road approaching the gate but there’s a confusion of car lights at one end. He immediately alerts the guards posted near the gate and around the garden to go to the road and to be heavily armed.
…
If at the hotel they had been outnumbered, this time the odds are ridiculous. There are at least fifteen men shooting around them constantly, forcing them to duck for cover more than to fire back.
Soon, the door is opened and someone grabs the thug. Yoochun tries to follow immediately but some guy grabs him by his collars, while the thug disappears into the night with some armed men.
Changmin gets out of the car, gun aimed, trying to shoot down the thug.
Eric and the other bodyguard have a hard time protecting Yoochun and Changmin from being shot down.
Yoochun is involved in a fist tight until the guy manages to point a gun at hime. He only has time to think he’s about to be killed. But just as the guy pointing a gun at him seems to be about to shoot, a huge beam of light from the gate floods the cars.
The remaining armed men start to run away. Some get inside the two cars used to block the road and speed away. Others get up on motorbikes that were also hidden under the trees and escape as well.
From inside the gate, guards pour out. Some on foot shooting at the running men, some on cars ready to give chase. Junsu is leading the rear, gun aimed and firing at all the moving targets.
There is very little to be done at this point and they are soon left alone on the street.
Changmin punches the car and screams in anger pulling his hair. He is absolutely frustrated. They had been so close to safety with their captive and now they had nothing except some nameless dead guys that would certainly afford them no clues.
…
Silence is deafening inside the control room. Changmin is shaking in barely suppressed rage. Yoochun has his head in Junsu’s shoulder, too dejected to say anything. Eric and the other guards keep quiet, unsure of what to say or do. Junsu keeps on the radio getting feedback from the guards who gave chase but after a while they report that they lost the trail.
Everyone gets even more dispirited at that.
Suddenly a phone sounds extremely loud in the small room. Changmin has a second where he picks up his cell phone and considers smashing it to pieces, then he calms down as he sees who the caller is.
-Jun Ki, why are you calling in the middle of the night?
Not even Yoochun reacts to that.
-Are you fucking kidding me?... Ok, I get it. Yes, I know. And?... Ok, look. You better come here, now we really need to talk with Jae. I’ll send a car over for you… Don’t you give me any shit, Lee Jun Ki. Right now I don’t fucking care if you are Super-Man in person. I’m sending a car with an armed man to pick you up and that’s it. End of discussion. Just make sure you bring everything you need to show Jae.
With that, the younger bodyguard hung up the phone to the amazement of Junsu and Yoochun, who had never seen him address the Assistant like that.
-What is the matter? - Asked Junsu.
-The building where we found Ren was demolished this Thursday. The cops came into the office saying our company had done it. Apparently that place is a crime scene cause some bastard got finished there. We found out that someone had indeed forged signatures and… God! Never mind. I’ll let Jun Ki tell the rest. I’m about to scream, throw up, something.
-I know something else about that building that you guys don’t. - Said Junsu in a quiet voice.
-What?
-The cop involved in the death was Jung Yunho.
-Yunho?
-Yes, our honourable Guest-Number-One. I also think that whatever happened in that damn building may be the reason why he got sent here. Some guy dies there Wednesday. Yunho is involved. It gets demolished Thursday and then Friday we get a late night visit from Yunho. Too much of a coincidence.
-Jun Ki just told me he has the name of the owner of that building and who also happens to be the one who forged the signatures. Give you one guess who that might be.
Junsu’s eyes widen at that. Yochun looks from Changmin to Junsu with a puzzled look.
-But whoever sent Yunho here, can’t work for that bastard. This is too big. The guy Yunho described and that just slipped through our fingers had way too much backup. - Said Yoochun with a huge defeated sigh.
Junsu balled his hands into fists.
-All I know is that this morning, when Jae and I went to the orphanage we just heard that this other boy is missing. Missing for over a week. A friend of Ren named Taemin, Just twelve years old. And I want to punch something because I have nothing. Nothing. And you two stupid motherfuckers just almost got yourselves killed.
-Calm down, love. - Pleaded Yoochun while he gave Junsu a tight hug.
-Ok, where is that damn cop? Shit, can’t believe he’s a fucking cop. - Asked Changmin. -I’m guessing right now he might be the only one who can shed some light into this mess. But I swear if he gives me any of that silence treatment like he did before, I am seriously going to shred him to pieces.
-I doubt he’ll still do that. Our Guest-Number-Two is his father. As for where he is… I advise you to wait until tomorrow morning when Jae wakes up.
-Again? I am seriously starting to wonder what the fuck is so special about that guy that Jae keeps returning for more. Should we worry? - Asked Yoochun.
-I am already worried. What the hell? He’s a cop? A cop wanted for the murder of a sex offender? And it happened on that damn building? The same one where Ren...? - Said Changmin.
Junsu kept quiet, still unsure of what to think about the new developments.
…
Morning light has already arrived when Lee Jun Ki joins Jaejoong’s bodyguards at the breakfast table. There he tells them the full story he discovered about the demolished building, adding how the company had been infiltrated. He also gets filled in as to what else has been happening.
Everyone seems to agree that, at this point, they can assume they are dealing with two separate threats, even if they seem strangely connected.
…
That same Tuesday morning at the police station, an upset Jung Il Woo finds himself being called to the Captain’s office. His partner Kim Soo Hyun waves him away with a smile.
-Careful, Il Woo. Remember the Cap has a reputation of turning everyone’s day into a rainy day.
-Don’t know what you are so happy about. If I get hit by Captain Rain, as my partner you will get soaked as well.
Jung Il Woo reported the previous day to his Captain and they discussed what to do next.
-So, it was this Kim Jaejoong’s company that demolished that damn building. But the order was only signed Thursday. That is too much of a coincidence.
-It is. The building was already in talks to be demolished but that is a lot of bureaucracy. It should not have happened so soon. Someone obviously put pressure.
-Kim Jaejoong. Why do I know that name?
-We have already investigated him some times because of his mafia connections. He’s the one building TOP’s new mall. I also checked the guy online and there is one more thing. When I went over Yunho’s files to try and find who might be framing him, I noticed that on that missing kid case, the one who made the complaint was Choi Siwon, a hot shot lawyer.
-Yes, I think I’ve met him across some cases when we reach the court stage. So?
-Choi Siwon and Kim Jaejoong dated for a while.
-Really? Now that is interesting. And might be worth another visit to Mr. Choi. Before you go talk with him, check with Yunho or his partner Min Ho what the guy already told them.
-Lee Min Ho is still recovering from his bullet wound. I went to see him Saturday. He’s disgustingly happy with how Jan Di is all over him. It’s impossible to talk with him. If you don’t mind, I’ll just check up with Yunho. I can’t stand another dose of happy lovey dovey Min Ho.
-Ok. He should be home. His father broke his leg. Yunho’s probably on babysitting duty. And speaking of insane love lives, what about Jang Geun Suk? What’s the gossip on that?
-Still pissed off with Yunho. Coming in I passed by the fireman station. Met with Lee Hongki. He told me that Mr. Jang still keeps trying to get Jung Yong-hwa to go out with him. I think it’s starting to get to a point where everyone in the fireman and the police station is feeling sorry for the guy.
-Which means he will still be too pissed with Yunho to even just delay the charges against him while we investigate. Keep me posted. This entire story stinks.
-Yes, Captain.

Chapter 25 - Changes ........................................
Yes, it's a lot of pictures, but with a cast like that, how can I resist?
